Chapter 410: 403 has become the public enemy of the whole people

"We’re here."

On the pitch-black dragon’s back, Lasha looked down at the bustling city standing on the land and uttered these words.

"I’ve returned, Royal Capital."

Laischa, who had once been part of the Old Demon Clan Faction invading the Royal Capital, gazed at the flourishing city with a sense of sighing emotion.

"Roar!"

You Lin bellowed loudly, flapping her Dragon Wings and hovering amidst the clouds above the Royal Capital.

Shane was also pulling along Lilith, suddenly smiling.

"Look, that is the Royal Capital."

Shane then turned to Lilith beside him with a smile, introducing it in such a manner.

Lilith nodded her head, her eyes fixed on the city below, brimming with copious curiosity.

Because this was the first time Lilith had left Duke Sterling’s domain, her first time coming to a city in another territory.

In the past ten thousand years, although Lilith was not like her uncontrolled true form, sealed tightly within the Dark Temple, she had a certain degree of freedom, but this freedom was relative.

She could leave the Temple, leave the independent space that had banished the Temple, even leave Cosmos, but she couldn’t wander far from Duke Sterling’s Domain, far from where her true form resided.

As the rational Half Body, if Lilith strayed too far from her true form, there was a high probability the connection with her true form would sever, and she would never be able to return to the Temple.

Therefore, all this time, Lilith’s predecessor, Jade, had only moved within Duke Sterling’s domain and never left it.

Until now, Lilith was finally able to depart from Duke Sterling’s domain, where the world was vast without any place she could not go to, as formidable as a Demon in might.

Of course, her place was wherever the Hero beside her was.

Lilith had long since made that decision, hence as long as Shane wished to stay in Duke Sterling’s Domain, she too was willing to remain there.

However, it was natural that Shane wouldn’t want to stay in Duke Sterling’s domain indefinitely.

Even though Barry had been dealt with by them and the place was no longer the opponent’s turf, Shane had no intention of staying there.

For the current Shane, his settlement was now only the Royal Capital.

After all, there was his home in the Royal Capital, as well as people who thought of him and whom he thought of, too.

The Shane who had once sworn to never stay in the Royal Capital was dead!

Absolutely splendid!

While Shane felt disheartened, he noticed Ai Yi beside him yawning and frowning.

"What’s wrong?"

Shane asked.

"Nothing much." Ai Yi relaxed his furrowed brows, seemingly disinterested, and said, "I was just thinking that there seem to be more people in the Royal Capital and the city area appears to be more bustling than before."

"Bustling?" Shane was momentarily stunned, then looked downwards.

Upon this glance, he also saw that even from above the clouds, he could still see the tiny ant-like flow of people seemingly continuously arriving from all directions into the Royal Capital, making it much busier and noisier than before.

Shane even detected respectable Magic Power emanating from those people.

What did this suggest?

It suggested that the people coming from all around each possessed exceptional strength.

"Why has there been a sudden appearance of so many experts?"

Shane was astonished.

"Those people seem like Nobles from other places and Knight Orders specifically escorting them here," Laischa appeared to have noticed the scene as well, having used some magical means to inspect, thus felt puzzled.

"Nobles from other places and Knight Orders?"

Shane immediately furrowed his brow.

Why are so many Nobles suddenly running to the Royal Capital?

Has something happened?

Shane pondered.

Watching Shane immersed in thought, Lasha, however, indifferently said, "Let’s head back, Mr. Xi’en."

"Right." Shane nodded, adding, "Rather than guessing here, might as well go back and check it out."

Saying so, Shane patted You Lin’s head resting beneath him.

"Roar!"

You Lin immediately grasped Shane’s intent, and with a roar, she dove downward.

The enormous black dragon emerging from above the clouds and flying towards the Royal Capital was observed by many, both inside and outside the city.

"A dragon...!?"

"There’s a dragon!"

"A dragon has appeared!"

"Oh, my God!"

Outside the Royal Capital, many people were greatly alarmed, thrown into a panic.

In contrast, the people inside the Royal Capital, as well as some with esteemed identities, despite their expressions changing at the sight of the black dragon descending from the sky, did not lose their composure.

"Is that Artlu’s Black Dragon?"

"The mount tamed by Viscount Bezut...?"

"Does this mean that Viscount Bezut is on it?"

"I heard he recently seemed to leave the Royal Capital, heading for Duke Sterling’s territory."

"Given the look of things, he must have come back, right?"

"So he comes back at this time..."

"Hmph..."

These individuals exhibited curiosity, scrutiny, and many seemed discontented and indignant for some reason, immediately bursting into a hubbub.

Even the people within the Royal Capital were like this.

"Viscount Bezut has returned!"

"Finally back, huh?"

"What a lucky fellow..."

"Indeed..."

In this instant, whether Nobles or commoners, they all watched the black dragon plummeting from the sky, whispering, buzzing with discussion, musing, or showing the same resentment and dissatisfaction, and some even revealed full hostility, making many stare at the black dragon from the sky, as if looking at a mortal enemy.

At this moment, Shane, on the dragon’s back, was also stunned.

The reason was very simple.

As they drew closer to the Royal Capital, Shane noticed that his "Enemy Detection" skill was setting off alarm bells in his head.

Red dots, symbolizing enemies, were rapidly popping up in his mind, the number rising at an alarming rate, telling Shane that a large number of people within the Royal Capital now harbored hostility toward him.

Those who felt enmity toward him seemed to be everywhere in the city.

"This..."

Shane was dumbfounded, stunned.

What was going on?

Had he done something wrong?

Why did it seem, after just a few days away, he’d become the public enemy of the Royal Capital?

"What’s with you? You look really weird."

Lasha noticed Shane’s stupefaction, voicing her surprise with a touch of confusion.

"No... It’s nothing." Shane barely managed to suppress the shock in his heart, but still couldn’t hide his anxiety. He turned to Lasha, hesitated, then asked in a low voice, "Have I ever done something... unethical?"

Lasha was taken aback by such an abrupt question.

She just stared at Shane, and the first emotion to appear in her ruby-like eyes wasn’t surprise or confusion, but an indescribable feeling.

Shane felt as if he could read a message in her eyes.

"Don’t you have any idea whether you’ve done something unethical?"

That seemed to be what her gaze was telling him.

At that moment, Shane was silent.

He couldn’t argue at all!

And so, Shane began to panic.

"Could it be that one of the unethical things I’ve done has been exposed?"

Shane racked his brain, hoping to pinpoint something.

Sadly, he realized that he actually had quite a few potential issues to consider!

This made it impossible for Shane to be sure which one it could be.

After some thought, Shane came up with only one possibility.

"It must be because I was too kind-hearted and sheltered Lasha, the Kingdom’s fugitive, and now that this has been exposed, I’ve become the public enemy of the Royal Capital!"

Shane immediately deployed his Unique Skill — "Blame-shifting."

Subconsciously, he reached out and grabbed Lasha’s shoulder.

"...What are you doing?"

"Oh, nothing."

"If it’s nothing, then why are you grabbing my shoulder?"

"Because we’re close, right?"

"...Really?"

"Of course, people who are close often throw their arms around each other’s shoulders, didn’t you know?"

"I know that, but right now I feel a bit uneasy for some reason. It feels like you are plotting something not very good."

"You’re overthinking it."

"...Really?"

"Really."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

"Then can you tell me what you’re really thinking right now?"

"It’s nothing much, just thinking that if the fact that I harbored you is exposed, turning you in might not only clear me of blame but could also earn me a merit."

"..."

"..."

After a short exchange, Shane and Lasha fell into silence and without another word started wrestling with each other.

While the two were embroiled in a scuffle, You Lin swept into the Royal Capital, heading straight for the heart of the Noble District.

There, the sprawling residence of the Beizut Family came into view for everyone.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the gates of Beizut’s estate were thronged with many nobles and commoners alike.

Voices of the nobles and commoners were rising together at the front of Beizut’s estate, demanding thus:

"I am the son of Count Sitri! I demand Viscount Beizut come out and face me in a duel!"

"I am the son of Count Kidyouzi! I demand Viscount Beizut come out and face me in a duel!"

"I am from the Marquis family!"

"I am from the Duke’s family!"

"Please accept our challenge!"

"We demand a duel!"

"Yes! A duel!"

The nobles were shouting like this, with members of the Knight Order present to keep order and the commoners gathered together as if ready to witness the house’s master show his prowess, turning the area into a noisy scene.

It almost appeared as if some tyranny had been committed and the innocent populace, unable to bear it any longer, had stepped forward, ready to parade in the streets to overthrow the tyranny, to topple the dictator.

"This, this, this, this...!?"

Shane was agape with disbelief.

Even the others were taken aback by the scene.

"You... is it really that bad for you in the Royal Capital?"

Lasha was in total disarray.

"...You didn’t really commit some grave unethical act, did you?"

Even Ai Yi looked over with suspicion brimming in her eyes.

"..."

Lasha said nothing, just silently stared at Shane, putting the greatest pressure on him.

"?"

Lilith, on the other hand, tilted her head, her face full of question marks.

Shane wanted to shout out loud.

"What on earth has happened...!?"

And so, without even being aware of the cause himself, Shane had become a public enemy.
