Why must the devil be Defeated? -
Chapter 394: I’m very sorry, really very sorry.
Chapter 394: I’m very sorry, really very sorry.
This day was difficult for Cosmos, for Duke Sterling’s domain, or rather, for both the Mitra Kingdom and the Ragna Empire.
Because disaster struck inexplicably.
Cosmos was destroyed.
The fortress city was gone.
Although the people were well protected with no casualties, the chaos that appeared here, along with the damage sustained, left many unable to remain seated.
A historic fortress that had defended the border of the Mitra Kingdom for nearly a thousand years was ruined overnight, a fact incredible and difficult for anyone to accept.
For the Mitra Kingdom, or rather, for Duke Sterling’s domain particularly, when they received this news, all the upper echelons felt a darkness before their eyes.
At least, upon hearing the news, Anxi couldn’t help but stand from his throne, while Barry was so angered that he smashed his desk and cursed outright, and eventually, unable to sit still any longer, he immediately prepared the best long-distance carriage and rushed over.
The reaction from the Ragna Empire was also intense.
How could they not react passionately when the fortress city that had always hindered their invasion was now gone?
But they were unable to feel openly pleased either.
Because, under such dire circumstances that befell Cosmos, their Valkyrie, the Empire’s Second Princess, along with her Broken Blade Knights, were likewise missing.
This threw the Empire’s leadership into disarray, and the current Emperor was so anxious that he sent people overnight to investigate the situation.
It could be said that both nations were plunged into tremendous turmoil due to this event.
Even the commoners, upon learning of the destruction of Cosmos, were all shaken, feeling both disbelief and a chill in their bones, and many began to discuss fervently, filling both countries with various rumors.
The only silver lining was that this time, neither nation would suspect each other anymore.
It was unavoidable, both sides had suffered huge losses, and in such a situation, no one would suspect foul play from the other.
Of course, the main thing was that the Divine World, through the Temples in both countries, conveyed one thing to both the Kingdom and the Empire.
That was, this event was actually triggered by an ancient sealing.
The one who caused this, of course, was Anima.
After the incident in Cosmos, the Life Goddess had to actively reveal the secret of the Evil God Lilith in order to quell the unrest caused by the event and prevent any potential troubles.
This was the responsibility of the Divine Race.
The Divine Race wouldn’t easily intervene in the Human Race’s conflicts, but they also wouldn’t allow themselves to become a pretext for the Human Race’s strife.
After learning the full story, both nations finally put aside their suspicions of each other but began to worry about a series of problems that would follow.
The Kingdom had lost a fortress that defended its border, and Duke Sterling’s First Knight Order was also missing after this event, bringing severe blows to both the Kingdom and Duke Sterling’s domain.
The Empire seemed to only lose a Princess and her Private knight group, but this Princess had also inherited the replica of the Holy Sword and was regarded as the first genius of the Empire in a millennium, a bargaining chip in future confrontations with the Kingdom’s treasure. Losing her was also a major blow to the Empire.
Naturally, the residents of Cosmos suffered even greater shocks.
They had directly lost their sanctuary, their hometown, undoubtedly posing a very serious problem.
Anima did say that due to the Divine Race’s partial responsibility, she would order, in the capacity of one of the Three Great Goddesses, that the Divine Race assist both great Kingdoms to overcome this difficulty.
Anima herself, however, did not return directly to the Divine World.
For one, Iris requested Anima’s favor, hoping she would help find her companions and retrieve the Beastman Priest and the transferred Beastman Race.
Anima agreed.
In any case, these were her spokespersons in the Human Realm, her most devout followers; and because the Beastman Race of Cosmos had obeyed her command to guard Lilith’s sealing for a thousand years, both morally and logically, she, as the Main God, should offer consolation and reward to these meritorious servants.
Secondly, Anima was quite concerned about Shane’s situation and couldn’t go back before having it clarified.
Thus, afterwards, the entourage moved to the nearest city to Cosmos—Yutri.
There, under Lasha’s arrangements, everyone checked into a high-end hotel and temporarily settled in.
Shane also took a deep sleep there until all his fatigue was dispelled, finally becoming refreshed and invigorated.
Everything felt as if it were just yesterday, as though nothing had happened, which was quite poignant.
Of course, there was not a complete absence of change around Shane.
The most noticeable change was that Shane had gained a very clingy little one by his side.
"Come, Miss Lilith."
In the hall, at the dining table, Lasha was holding a bowl of soup, scooped up a spoonful, and brought it to Lilith’s lips.
"Ahh~~~"
Lilith obediently opened her little mouth, as before, enjoying Lasha’s feeding.
Lilith was not only wearing the black vestment robe that symbolized nobility, but she also sat on Shane’s lap, hugging his neck, and appeared completely unwilling to get off him.
"She really has grown attached to you, hasn’t she?"
Lasha couldn’t help but express her emotions as she watched the scene unfold.
It wasn’t just Lasha; apart from Iris, who, under Anima’s guidance, had gone to join with the Beastman Priest Group, all the involved parties from that day were here, witnessing the scene.
"Ever since leaving Cosmos, this girl hasn’t left his side, has she?"
Ai Yi said, with a pout, while eating her breakfast.
"After all, he’s the one entrusted with the ’True Seal.’ It’s not hard to understand."
Anima also laughed wryly, seeming a bit troubled.
Shane didn’t think there was anything inappropriate about it.
Being clung to by the badass Evil God, and cuddling a little girl whose warm and fragrant body was in his arms while eating, was truly one of life’s great pleasures.
Shane even voiced his reflections on life.
"As expected, a hero saving a beauty is what a Hero should do, yes, quite the standard move, and I don’t dislike it."
This statement left everyone momentarily speechless.
Only Anima, after seriously observing Lilith for a while, reluctantly admitted,
"It seems unlikely that we’ll be able to take Goddess Lilith back to the Divine World."
This was the source of Anima’s concern.
A relative with power even greater than her own, who could rank among the top three of the Divine Race and could compare to Demons, Anima certainly wanted to take her back to the Divine World to strengthen its forces.
Initially, the Divine Race had held high hopes for this, wanting Lilith to become a power to contend with the Demons and bring an advantage to the war. But who would have thought that Lilith would lose control on the battlefield, and they had no choice but to seal away this top-tier combat force, which was a real downer for the entire Divine Race.
Now that the Evil God had finally returned to normal, the Divine Race must be very eager for her to return, right?
Anima thought so too; if possible, she really wanted to take Lilith back.
But when Anima expressed such a desire, Lilith just glanced at her.
That glance sent chills down Anima’s spine, as if she had seen a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. She barely maintained her composure.
If it were anyone other than Anima, being looked at by Lilith in that manner, they probably would have gone mad, wouldn’t they?
Since returning to her original form, Lilith had perfectly controlled her power and obtained real strength that could truly rival a Demon’s, using her authority very adeptly. Anima, whose strength was less than Lilith’s, had irritated her and naturally suffered a considerable setback as a result.
From that moment on, Anima knew that Lilith didn’t want to return to the Divine World.
She only wanted to follow Shane—whether walking, eating, sleeping, or bathing, she would stick close to him and follow along with everything, and even Lasha couldn’t separate the two.
Under these circumstances, Anima had no doubt that if she were forceful, Lilith would not hesitate to go to war with her.
Even though Anima was one of the Three Great Goddesses and held a much higher position than Lilith, an Upper-level God, Lilith should have followed her orders; but Lilith, born an Evil God, cared nothing for the orders of the Three Great Goddesses.
Given this, Anima had come to realize that it was impossible for her to take Lilith away.
Unless Supreme God Ominis personally commanded it, Lilith, being of the Divine Race, might dare not defy her. Otherwise, not even the Life Goddess, let alone the strongest Goddess of Fate in the Three Realms, would probably be able to forcibly take her away.
Shane, however, had something he wanted to say.
"I’m also at a loss here, and I can’t do anything about it, but this is all Lilith’s own will. I am truly sorry, really sorry."
As he said this, Shane’s face was full of smiles, without any attempt to disguise, which made Anima feel like giving him a good beating.
Perhaps she couldn’t defeat Lilith, but a Hero who had not yet grown up, surely she could discipline him a bit, right?
But this led to another troubling issue.
"You’re not keeping anything from me, are you, Mr. Xi’en?"
Anima stared straight at Shane, and although her eyes were not open, one could feel the sincerity and intensity of her gaze.
"You really don’t know why you were summoned to this world, do you?"
Anima asked very seriously.
Shane responded to her question.
"I really don’t know, Lady Goddess."
Shane’s face showed helplessness.
However, that was a lie.
Looking at the very serious Anima in front of him, Shane couldn’t help but recall what happened the night before when he arrived at this hotel and went back to his room, thinking of falling asleep, when suddenly something occurred.
