Chapter 26: I Really Envy Her Husband…

Tasha’s face flushed red as thoughts of Rhodes’ firm, sculpted chest filled her mind again.

Those abs… like a powerful beast’s. What would it feel like if that strong body crashed against hers with full force?

Completely unaware of what was going on in her head, Rhodes looked at the distracted Tasha and couldn’t help but sigh.

“Mrs. Tasha?”

“Huh?” His voice snapped her out of her daze.

Noticing the charm Rhodes was handing her, she hastily accepted it.

“Thank you!”

She looked down at the charm in her hands, genuinely grateful. Her impression of this young neighbor shifted once more.

She was, of course, aware of this villa’s dark past—a notorious property where many had died. A textbook haunted house. She had opposed her husband’s decision to buy it from the start.

But Brewer had fallen for the place at first sight. And after hearing the price, which was less than half of a regular property, he purchased it on his own without discussing it with her. They had even argued about it for some time.

It wasn’t that she believed in ghosts or evil spirits. Like her husband, she was a staunch materialist. It just didn’t feel right living in a house where people had died.

Still, Rhodes’ gesture in giving her the charm came from a place of kindness. And Tasha wasn’t foolish enough to reject a kind neighbor’s goodwill.

If she wanted to integrate into this new community, it was necessary to build friendly connections. Besides, her impression of Rhodes had improved again. He was thoughtful, polite, and attentive.

Seeing her put the charm on, Rhodes smiled.

Good.

At least she was willing to listen. He hated dealing with people who were stubborn to the point of arrogance, brushing off goodwill as a joke. Unfortunately, there was no shortage of such people in this country.

As Rhodes’ eyes followed the charm resting against Tasha’s chest, he found his gaze momentarily drawn in.

It wasn’t intentional. It was just that the charm naturally fell right between the deep, shadowed curves of her chest, making it hard to look anywhere else.

Even if he tried not to, his gaze instinctively focused there. It was a flaw men carried deep in their bones.

Since he had just handed her the charm, they were standing fairly close, barely two steps apart. A soft, faint scent of perfume drifted up from her body.

Originally, Rhodes had no particular thoughts, but suddenly, his mind started to wander. Tasha’s outfit had caught his eye again.

Perhaps because she was heading to drop off her child at school, her clothing today was a bit more conservative than the day before. It still reflected that mature, bold style so common among women in this country, nonetheless.

A fitted tank top with a plunging neckline barely covering half of her chest. The curves pushing up beneath the fabric hinted at some kind of shapewear underneath. She wore light pink yoga pants that perfectly outlined the contours of her legs and hips. Her lower body clearly bore the marks of regular training, but in a way that enhanced her beauty. It was clear that this stunning neighbor was no stranger to the gym or the yoga studio.

Unlike the wide-hipped women whose thighs often didn’t touch even when standing, she stood naturally with her toned legs close together, no gaps at all. That firm figure… Rhodes couldn’t help but wonder what it might feel like.

Her husband is really a lucky man.

Rhodes pulled his gaze away and met her soft, slightly flirtatious eyes that shimmered like silk in sunlight.

He gave her a serious reminder.

“This charm, make sure everyone in the family wears one. It’s best to hang another by your pillow and one near the door.”

He didn’t bring up the haunted house issue. Anyone who bought this house must already know its reputation. If they still went ahead with the purchase, that likely meant they didn’t believe in the supernatural.

Going too far with warnings would only make him look like a meddler. Giving them these charms was enough. It should help them avoid danger.

If they still refused to move out and eventually met a tragic end in this house… well, that would be their fate.

You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

Everyone has to face the consequences of their own choices.

Having handed over the charms, Rhodes got into his secondhand pickup truck and headed toward school. He’d already taken three days off—he couldn’t afford to be late again.

As she watched Rhodes drive away, Tasha sighed.

She thought of her husband, who had been swamped with work lately, leaving early in the morning, returning late at night, and sometimes traveling for days without coming home. Even if she understood he was doing it for their future, a part of her still felt a little resentful. She was a woman too, someone who felt loneliness and needed companionship.

Such a simple wish… yet it had become a luxury.

Sometimes, the thought crossed her mind: Why not find a young, strong lover to fulfill the desires her husband no longer could?

But whenever she thought about her husband out there working hard to provide for their family, she felt ashamed of the dark thoughts in her heart. She could only suppress that growing emptiness inside her… and find her own ways to cope with the solitude.
