Chapter 20: M-My Grandma… Where Is She?
“Ah, you… What are you doing? M-My grandma… where is she?”
When Little Red Riding Hood woke up, her whole body ached. The most vivid image in her mind was that terrifying figure. After enduring who knows how many rounds of torment, she had finally passed out.
Seeing his face close-up, her eyes were full of confusion. Before she could fully process what was happening, she saw her own trembling legs. Her eyes went blank. Due to the injuries, it felt like all the strength had completely left her body.
“Don’t talk,” Rhodes said in a low voice, cutting off her attempt to ask further questions.
In his werewolf-transformed state earlier, his mind was completely driven by instinct, and his senses were dulled. But now, he could feel things so deeply that it felt peculiar.
How do I put it… In both of my lives combined, I have never experienced something like this…
“Women enhanced by magical potions are something else,” Rhodes sighed sincerely.
It felt completely different from ordinary women. Spending too much time with someone like her might even make one immune to ordinary women.
“M-my grandma… S-she’s okay, right?” Little Red Riding Hood’s fingers tightly gripped Rhodes.
Her skin was flushed, and her body trembled with grief. In that brief moment, it felt like she had died. After all, the one she lost was her most beloved grandma.
“She was eaten by the werewolf. I killed it and avenged her for you. Shouldn’t you be repaying that kindness now?”
Rhodes looked at her calmly. But inwardly, he was gasping. This girl… is she a tsundere?
“My grandma… was eaten by a werewolf?” Her mind could no longer process anything clearly, and her thoughts were fragmented.
Once the reality sank in, whether from physical pain or emotional anguish, her eyes welled up.
How could Grandma have been eaten by a werewolf?
Seeing her dazed expression, Rhodes continued gently, trying to console her.
Her life truly was pitiful. Her parents had been killed by the witch, and then the witch had used potions to modify her body and brainwash her. Not only had she forgotten her parents, but she even saw the murderer as her closest family. She had been helping the witch lure travelers and villagers into becoming test subjects for her potions. Thankfully, she met him. Otherwise, her entire life might have been ruined.
“I feel… weird. So strange…” Little Red Riding Hood suddenly blushed and looked at Rhodes, her face full of embarrassment. She didn’t know what was happening to her body.
Rhodes smiled slightly at her expression. He wasn’t surprised at all. An hour later, Rhodes watched as Little Red Riding Hood emerged in a clean set of clothes.
They were currently in a village called Greenshade, not far from Red Forest Village. Red Forest had once been the most prosperous town nearby. But the appearance of werewolves forced merchants to reroute, and this once-forgotten Greenshade had now taken its place. From a small village of a few hundred people, it had grown to over a thousand in just a few years. Now, it had all sorts of infrastructure, with many traveling merchants stopping by here to rest.
Rhodes had come here and rented a room. Originally, it was just to help Little Red Riding Hood get cleaned up.
After all, what happened back in the cabin, the “green giant vs. black widow” episode, was truly… excessive, ahem. Her skin had practically become a whole shade paler. While cleaning up internally, a little “accident” had occurred. Luckily, there were no major issues.
On the bright side, it was proof that the magical potion enhancements were indeed powerful. If she were an ordinary person, she would’ve been beyond help.
“So, what do you plan to do now?” Rod asked.
“I… I don’t know. Other than Grandma, I don’t remember anyone else… I feel like I’ve forgotten a lot of things.”
Little Red Riding Hood looked down at her toes, avoiding Rhodes’ gaze. Though she didn’t fully comprehend what had happened, her instincts told her to feel ashamed. She couldn’t bring herself to face this kind older brother figure who had helped her.
“You probably have other family members. There’s no rush. If you can’t remember now, just take your time.” Rhodes comforted her casually.
It wasn’t surprising that she couldn’t recall anyone else. After all, the old witch had regularly used memory-erasing potions on her, wiping away her memories.
But those were only temporary, they couldn’t truly erase memories permanently. As long as she didn’t continue ingesting them, her memories would slowly return with time. And during that time, he would guide her properly. Teach her how to become a proper woman. Then, once her memories returned, he would help her find her real family.
Thinking about this, Rhodes couldn’t help but smile. What a good man I am.
