When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 644: Black Dome
Chapter 644: Black Dome
While Gu Luoxin’s intermittent words echoed in the cabin aircraft, desperately relaying all the crucial information he had discovered, Shen Nianzu abruptly shot up to his feet, colors draining from his face. "How could this be possible..." he whispered in utter disbelief.
No one understood the horror of nightmare creatures from the upper realm better than him. They existed on a higher plane, similar to extraterrestrial beings, and the ability they possessed was on another level altogether!
Suppose they wanted to descend to a lower realm, they had to do it through a medium, just like how Medeia, the witch who had placed a death curse on him, had to make use of a player’s summoning ability to manifest her presence. This was all because each world possessed a sentient subconsciousness that would instinctively repel outsiders, and so the only way for those in the higher realm to enter was through a medium, similar to how players ought to carry the ticket around with them to be ’acknowledged’.
With this method, they were thus granted ’temporary pass’ to traverse into the realm.
But through Gu Luoxin’s news and his own comprehension so far, Shen Nianzu realized in horror that this foreign nightmare creature might have, in all likelihood, intruded into this realm a long time ago, blending seamlessly as one of the natives and waiting with terrifying patience for the right moment to strike.
Maybe... maybe he might even be the reason why Sword of Heaven perished here!
No wonder the Nightmare chose to descend into this Cycle! Turned out it was all because of the doctor’s presence! In a flash, Shen Nianzu understood everything, and the terror in his heart ran deeper.
Gu Luoxin was in grave danger! He could never stand a chance against that nightmare creature!
"We have to bring Xinxin out of there... NOW!" he enunciated, his voice cracking in the end.
BOOM!
The aircraft’s artillery smashed onto the sky-high wall of the residence which resembled a cage, sending a powerful energy shockwave rippling through the air.
On the command ship.
The sudden tremor rocked the ship violently. Caught off guard, Master Nasser had to grab the back of a nearby seat to keep himself from tumbling, while startled exclamations erupted from the soldiers and technicians nearby.
Amidst the alarm, Master Nasser stared at the mushroom clouds illuminating the inky night sky in bafflement before anger soon overtook him. "What the hell is that bastard doing, acting without my order?! There’s still half an hour left until midnight!" Although he had always known that his second son was hot-headed and rebellious, his blatant disregard for direct command had displeased Master Nasser greatly. His jaws clenched as a cold rage flared in his chest.
However, just as he reached out to press the button that could connect him with his son—
"S-Sir!" A soldier cried out in surprise. "Look—what is that?!"
Through the dispersing smoke, the debris and shrapnel of the ruined walls continued to fall down like rain. And without these sturdy walls, the thing inside was revealed to everyone’s eyes.
It appeared like a gigantic dome, blacker than the night, so much that not even a single ray of light could be reflected on it. But upon closer notice, the dome’s surface was not at all smooth; it was made of countless tendrils of shadow rubbing and squirming against each other.
Just a single glance was enough to make those with weaker wills dizzy and nauseous, as though they were looking at something filthy and repulsive to the extreme.
Master Nasser forgot his anger in an instant, his mouth hanging open in shock. "W-What in the world...?"
Back in Jin Jiuchi’s aircraft.
Shen Nianzu had to avert his gaze as bile surged up in his throat. Being exposed to this creature at such a close distance was a kind of torture even for him, a siren who was supposed to be adept in mental attacks. Covering his mouth, he had to take a couple of deep breaths before he could speak again, "What is that? It feels similar to the Nightmare..."
"Uh, yeah? Maybe the watered down version?" Jin Jiuchi leaned his upper body forward to scrutinize it closer, only to toss his head back when the smell overwhelmed him. "God, it smells horrible! This is it... this is the shit I’ve been smelling all along, Nian’er! Is this the true form of the doctor Xinxin has been telling us about??"
"As expected of the Nightmare’s fanatic follower," Shen Nianzu muttered under his breath.
Even the power it wielded belonged in the same category of the Nightmare. But at least, it seemed to only evoke intense discomfort in those who laid eyes upon it, rather than the Nightmare who was capable of peering into people’s hearts, making them experience their worst nightmare all over again until they didn’t even know they had died.
Jin Jiuchi was spot on—it was indeed the watered down version of the Nightmare.
Still, it didn’t make the creature any less troublesome.
"It doesn’t want to let us through... is it to prevent us from stopping Ares’ plans?" Shen Nianzu surmised with knitted brows. "Can you try and see if you can drill a hole through it, Da Shen?"
"Huh, me?" Jin Jiuchi hemmed and hawed, clearly reluctant to confront the creature who stank like hell to him. Shen Nianzu glared daggers at him because what was he doing still dawdling on his feet? Did he still not realize the severity of the matter here?! Their teammate’s life was at stake, for God’s sake!
He raised his fist, about to resort to violence, when Jin Jiuchi’s face lit up all of a sudden as though he had seen a savior.
"Look, my good brother is here!" he pointed outside the window.
Noir had arrived without them noticing, blue flame igniting beneath his feet which kept him airborne like some futuristic hero straight out of a comic book. "I will try," was all he conveyed through the communication terminal before he blasted the damn shadowy creature with a missile ejected from his body.
A shockwave twice as powerful as the previous artillery erupted, sweeping the clouds away and turning the night sky as bright as daylight for a split second. The entire world seemed to hold its breath as the ear-deafening rumbles slowly subsided, revealing the dome—which had remained fairly unscathed except for a few singed tendrils. But otherwise, no major damage had been dealt at all.
Noir exhaled hot steam through his mouth. "As expected, mere heavy weapons will not be effective against it."
"So your suggestion is...?" Shen Nianzu followed along, sensing his unspoken plans.
Noir stated curtly, "Underground."
