Chapter 641: How?

"M-Me?!" Gu Luoxin choked out, unable to believe what he had just heard. If not for his bound arms, he would have pointed at his own nose for good measure.

He refused, he screamed inwardly. He refused to accept this so-called honor from a psycho with a crazy mission to destroy the world!

Besides, he still found it difficult to see Ares as a perpetrator even after all this person had told him. To Gu Luoxin, he was but a victim.

Come on, who had not wished for world destruction every once in a while? When Gu Luoxin felt sick studying for his university entrance examination, he also wished for a meteor to smash right onto all the exam venues so it would be postponed until later time!

And with the hardship Young Master Ares had endured growing up, who could blame him for wishing the world to end, just so that he could stop feeling the pain?

Gu Luoxin did not blame him at all; he even sympathized with Ares’ plight. On the other hand, it’s the doctor who was the bad guy here, taking advantage of Ares’ vulnerable moments for his own benefits. The rising anger fueled Gu Luoxin’s courage, turning him fearless in the face of this person he once dreaded the most. "You want me to join you? After I saw Young Master Ares’ miserable ending with my own eyes? Do you think you can manipulate me like you did to him?" he sneered, his eyes flushed with tears of anger. "Bah, you wish!"

Gu Luoxin had expected the other person to blow up after being denied and mocked like this. After all, he didn’t look like someone who could take rejection to his face well. By then, Gu Luoxin could finally activate his life-saving prop, escape from this creepy place, and tried to contract his teammates.

He had it all thought out, but much to his surprise, the doctor didn’t get angry at all.

Instead, he laughed, even louder than before. "HAHAHA—!"

Damn psycho! Gu Luoxin tightened his jaws, willing himself not to spit in the doctor’s direction.

Self-control, Xinxin, he reminded himself. Self-control.

"I suppose you wouldn’t understand anything until you witness it yourself, huh?" The doctor grinned crookedly.

In the next second, Gu Luoxin’s eyes flew wide in disbelief. Holy fuck, the leather belts binding his limbs were undoing themselves like they had a mind of their own!

But before he could question why the doctor suddenly let him go without rhyme or reason, the world around him shifted. The scenery melted into a blur, leaving Gu Luoxin so dizzy that he felt like his inner organs had turned upside down. Nonetheless, he kept his eyes wide open, unwilling to miss a single thing. His fingertips were ready to summon the life-saving prop at any time.

W-What the hell was this—teleportation? Damn it, did this psycho have such an OP skill as well?!

Wait, that’s not right—it was the shadow. The doctor was using his shadow skill to move between places, bringing Gu Luoxin with him as well! As another form of darkness, the shadow could use it as a medium for moving, just like a fish swimming through water. And with the extent of power the doctor had, no wonder it felt like teleportation to Gu Luoxin.

This casual display of strength sent alarms ringing in Gu Luoxin’s head.

But soon after, he was distracted—because he belatedly noticed that the sky had turned pitch-black outside without even a single twinkling star seen as if... as if it was midnight now!

Nofreaking way...

It was still evening when he last communicated with Shen Nianzu and Jin Jiuchi, so how could it be so dark now? Just how long had he remained unconscious?!

The two of them left the clinic, slipping along the corridors, unseen and unnoticed by the working servants, until they reached an area Gu Luoxin was vaguely familiar with.

His eyes widened in alarm.

Shoot, wasn’t that Master Grinu’s courtyard? Why–Why did the doctor bring him here? He couldn’t have planned to sell Gu Luoxin out to the Master of the Sky to earn himself some credit, could he?!

"Why are you bringing me here?!" Gu Luoxin began to panic, but the doctor simply smiled in response, his tone mysterious,

"You will see."

The moment Gu Luoxin’s feet touched the ground, he had to hold onto the wall beside him for support as his vision spun. It was dark; the whole courtyard was drenched in pitch-black darkness that reminded one of a haunted house. Even the candelabras and lanterns were not lit, and there was nary a single servant around. If not because Gu Luoxin had kept a vigilant eye as they made their way here, he wouldn’t have believed they were in the Master of the Sky’s courtyard.

How could it be so dark and desolate...?

Gu Luoxin turned to the doctor beside him, whose silhouette appeared fuzzy, when a faint voice called out from inside the courtyard.

"You’re here?"

At the sound of that familiar voice, Gu Luoxin stiffened like he had turned into a stone statue, petrified from head to toe. His breathing began to pick up as disbelief and incredulity filled him.

No way, how... how could this be...

As if the universe was hellbent on making him face reality, the entire courtyard lit up with a sudden whoosh! And there he stood—Young Master Ares, unharmed and unbelievably real. Smiling faintly at Gu Luoxin as if nothing had happened.

Gu Luoxin’s scream was strangled on his throat. Help, there’s a ghost here...!

Someone who had died during the day suddenly showed up at night—what was he, if not a ghost?! But then again, Young Master Ares looked too real and vivid, not at all translucent like how a ghost was supposed to be, and his feet were firmly planted to the ground. He even had a shadow!

Gu Luoxin’s mouth opened and closed without a sound, and it took him a while to find his voice that had been lost somewhere with his shriveling courage.

"Y-Y-Y-You are still a-alive...?" His voice trembled so much that it would have been mortifying under normal circumstances, but Gu Luoxin had no luxury to care about his dignity now.

How? A large question mark popped up in his mind. How could Young Master Ares still be alive, when Gu Luoxin had clearly seen his dead body back then?!

"I know you have a lot of questions," Ares began, his voice as gentle as Gu Luoxin remembered it, though now this gentleness gave him nothing but chills. "I will tell you everything, but I’m afraid we don’t have much time. Follow me, if you want to know the truth."
