Chapter 639: Outsider

Gu Luoxin was in a serious predicament right now—like, real serious.

When he came to, he found himself in a vaguely familiar room and it was the sight of the huge surgical lamp overhead that hit him with a cold wave of realization—he was in the clinic, the very same room where he had escorted the wounded Young Master Ares for his treatment! And guess what, he was now strapped to the same bed just like the young master back then!

In an instant, Gu Luoxin broke out into cold sweat, panic mounting in his heart as he tried to break free, only to find the leather belts secured tightly around his arms and legs, not allowing him to budge even a bit.

Damn it! What was going on?! Why did the doctor kidnap him in broad daylight? Had he... had he found out that Gu Luoxin was not the real young master?!

No, that’s impossible! Gu Luoxin bit his lower lip hard enough to taste blood, and the sharp sting helped him regain his bearings somewhat. Calm down, he told himself. Don’t panic, Xinxin. Panicking is the last thing you should do!

It was fortunate that the room, albeit eerily cold, was empty. Not seeing the psycho doctor as soon as he opened his eyes was a small silver lining Gu Luoxin was grateful of.

Giving his head a small shake, he attempted to analyze his current situation. In hindsight, it should be impossible for the doctor to suspect his identity, not only because he looked almost identical to Young Master Ares in both appearance and physical measure, they had also never met face-to-face since Gu Luoxin assumed this role—not counting the moment where Gu Luoxin had eavesdropped on his conversation with Master Grinu on top of the roof.

Unless the doctor was a clairvoyant with an all-seeing eye... or unless he was the one who killed Young Master Ares, there was little chance for him to doubt Gu Luoxin.

But of course, he could not completely close off this possibility, but Gu Luoxin opted to set it aside for the time being for the sake of his sanity, treating it as the worst case scenario.

And the next possible theory...

He had been abducted here for another ’treatment’ session.

Gu Luoxin paled when he recalled the horrifying scene he had inadvertently witnessed last time. No way... would he have his eyeballs poked too, like Young Master Ares?!

Argh, whether it was the first or second possibility, none was good for his sanity!

Luckily, Gu Luoxin still had his life-saving prop and healing prop available, or else he would have really gone crazy upon finding himself in this crisis. As for the earpiece, he had no idea whether he should feel relieved or regret that it had been left behind in Young Master Ares’ room, leaving it undiscovered until now. Had Noir or his teammates tried to reach him? He hoped they had, as it meant they would have realized something was amiss with no response from his side.

"Awake?"

He couldn’t help but tense up when the doctor pushed the door open and stepped into the room, greeting him with a casual tone as if nothing had happened.

But upon realizing how odd his reaction might appear to the other person, he loosened his clenched fists and forced his rigid muscles to relax despite the fact that his entire person was in a state of high alert. It couldn’t be helped; the only way he could save himself now was to maintain his act as Young Master Ares!

"Doctor..." he greeted softly, as if he was still not fully awake yet. "Why did you bring me here? Is it time... for treatment?"

If Gu Luoxin had to choose between the two options, he would rather undergo the inhumane treatment. Because at least, he would still be alive in the end even if it meant he had to endure a little suffering. On the other hand, if his real identity were exposed... he wouldn’t even be able to put up a fight as he was ejected from this world!

In response to Gu Luoxin’s naïve question, the doctor merely let out a light chuckle as he approached the bed. Gu Luoxin instinctively held his breath as the other person bent down... but all he did was to adjust the bed so Gu Luoxin could lean back more comfortably without arching his neck to talk.

A careless smile hung on the corners of his lips as he arched a humorous brow at the bound young man. "What? Do you think you’re still sick and need my treatment?"

Gu Luoxin’s lowered lashes quivered gently, looking particularly fragile and pitiful. "I... will listen to Father. If he said I’m sick, then I must be."

"Hmm..." the doctor gave a mere hum in response, yet Gu Luoxin could feel the man’s sharp gaze poring over his face, examining him from head to toe as if dissecting his flesh inch by inch. It gave off the impression that the abyss itself was peering straight into the insides of his brain, almost stretching Gu Luoxin’s taut nerves to the point of breaking apart.

After a couple of seconds that dragged like centuries, the doctor withdrew his gaze, and only then could Gu Luoxin breathe properly once more.

"Don’t worry," he reassured in a nonchalant shrug. "You’ve recovered with that single treatment session. You don’t need it anymore."

But this good news did not make Gu Luoxin happy at all, for it meant he was heading to the worst case scenario. Please, don’t... don’t let it happen, he prayed fervently inside his heart.

"Then why..." he heard himself ask, his voice thin and raspy.

"I do not like beating around the bush. You—" his eyes narrowed into a meaningful smile. "You’re an outsider, aren’t you?"

BOOM! Gu Luoxin’s mind exploded into bits and pieces.

He knew... his heart trembled. He really knew. The doctor knew his real identity! The worst case scenario he had dreaded all this time was truly happening!

Was he... was he going to die here?

A suffocating dread gripped his throat as the notion of death closed in, but one second... two seconds... nothing happened. He had not been ejected from this world. He was still here, staring numbly at the doctor’s expectant gaze with a blank look on his face.

What–What was going on? Did he, perhaps, still have the chance to salvage this situation...?

Seizing the rare chance, Gu Luoxin desperately clutched onto it like a madman grasping onto the last straw that could save his life. "I... don’t understand what you’re talking about," he forced the words out with difficulty, his voice strained and foreign even to his own ears. Perspiration soaked the back of his shirt, and his scalp tingled with numbness.

He absolutely would not—could not—admit to this no matter what!

Yet the doctor simply showed a cold smile in response, as though he had seen through Gu Luoxin’s clumsy act that was no more than a child’s play.

"Don’t bother to pretend anymore," he remarked, cruelly ripping apart the young man’s mask of innocence. Then he suddenly leaned forward and spoke in a hushed voice, as if he was sharing a huge secret, "Do you want to know how I found out? Let me tell you one thing—"

"Like you, I... am an outsider as well."
