Chapter 631: Juicy Scoop

"...!" Gu Luoxin had a hand firmly clasped over his mouth to prevent himself from making any sound that could expose his presence and lead to his instant demise. But even without doing that, he was already too shocked to react. His entire person was frozen on top of the slanted tiled roof.

Holy shit, what the hell did he just hear...?

He had expected them to be talking about something important, but never could he have foreseen it would be this... juicy. This inside scoop was on another level altogether!

Did Master Grinu just accuse the doctor—or more precisely, his shadow—to be the perpetrator behind the young siren prince’s tragic death?!

Gu Luoxin did not harbor even the faintest doubt that the shadow could pull off something like that.

He had seen for himself what it was capable of last night, not to mention Jiang Shun had also witnessed it killing a servant outright! It went without saying that the shadow was a very dangerous entity, even more so when it operated under the psychopathic doctor’s command. Just like a perfect killing machine.

However, there’s just one thing Gu Luoxin could not figure out: why did the doctor do it? What’s his motive?

He would even go as far as to incite a war—that was considered a national-level crime worthy of a death penalty! Surely, he couldn’t have done it just for fun, right? Did the doctor, by any chance, play a significant role in the Cycle’s main storyline? But then again, he was just this residence’s private doctor, wasn’t he? Or maybe... did he have a dark, hidden past just like all typical final bosses did? Oh, that was possible!

In a flash, Gu Luoxin’s mind conjured up one scenario after another, and his impression of the doctor became all the more terrifying, giving him an involuntary shiver.

Just to be safe, he checked the doctor’s feet and—good, his shadow was there.

Gu Luoxin breathed a subtle sigh of relief, then he couldn’t help but curse inwardly. Geez, this Cycle had truly given him quite a severe psychological trauma!

Although Jiang Shun had boldly claimed that the shadow’s weakness was light, hadn’t Prince Kaivia’s murder happened in broad daylight as well? That meant they would not be necessarily safe even during the day!

Suppressing the dread in his heart, Gu Luoxin continued, or rather he had no choice but to continue eavesdropping as the two men conversed,

"You trust Nasser’s words that easily?" Despite Master Grinu’s severe expression, the doctor appeared as relaxed as ever with a perpetual slight smile on his face. His voice carried a hint of tease, "Were you not the one who always said that he’s full of bullshit and nothing good has ever come out of his mouth?"

Master Grinu’s face darkened in displeasure. "Do not change the subject," he warned. "Nasser might be a shrewd fellow who likes to play with his words, but the situation was too dire for him to weave a lie right in front of everyone’s face. Besides, the eyewitness who claimed to have seen you was his second son, that reckless and hot-headed brat. Even if he wanted to lie his way out of trouble, he wasn’t foolish enough to make an absurd statement like seeing a ghost in broad daylight."

"Oh, so it’s him..." the doctor made a meaningful expression.

"Speak," Master Grinu continued to press, "Is it you?"

The refined man in white coat spread his hands in a gesture of utter helplessness. "As much as I’d like to clear your doubt, Master Grinu, it’s impossible for me to admit to a crime I have never committed. What reason do I have to do that?" he shook his head, a wry sigh escaping his lips. "I have spent my whole life dedicating myself to science and medicine. Isn’t it too far-fetched for me to start a war all of a sudden?"

What Gu Luoxin could think of, Master Grinu surely could as well—the doctor indeed had no reason to kill Prince Kaivia in such a gruesome manner and spread his pictures to provoke the sirens.

Master Grinu knew in his heart that it was unlikely for the doctor to do it, yet the matter of the culprit going through the wall was hard to explain. He narrowed his eyes, his razor sharp gaze poring over the other person’s face as though itching to cut his head open and see what was contained inside.

Under such intense scrutiny, the doctor held his ground firmly, his expression showing nothing but a sense of helplessness. In the end, it was Master Grinu who averted his gaze first, pinching his brows in frustration,

"Are you saying that, aside from you, there is someone else who possesses a similar ability?"

"Maybe...?" The doctor gave a light, almost nonchalant shrug, and this time there was something profound and mysterious in his tone as he remarked, "The universe is so vast and full of unknown things. Who’s to say that someone like that wouldn’t exist somewhere we didn’t know?"

The brief conversation ended up leading to nowhere.

Before long, Master Grinu left in brisk steps, presumably to formulate battle plans for real this time, while the doctor made his way back to the clinic while humming a random tune under his breath, seemingly in a light-hearted mood despite having just been accused as a war criminal.

Gu Luoxin himself waited until the two of them were gone far away before he dared to loosen his stiff muscles and move from his hiding spot. He couldn’t help mulling over what the doctor had just said—what he meant by special ability, didn’t that refer precisely to players? Had he noticed the players’ existence in this world somehow?

After all, it’s not for nothing that the bus officer warned them not to let the natives discover their identity as an intruder!

Gu Luoxin had always kept that warning in mind and dared not slack off even for a second, regardless of the identity he was assuming.

As for the consequences players would suffer from, Gu Luoxin reckoned it would not stray far from being ejected by the world—or in other words, instant death. The worst case was dying in an extremely gruesome and painful way. Either way, they would drop dead for sure.

Chills arose in Gu Luoxin’s heart at the thought that the doctor might have noticed their existence. He swore to himself that he must not let himself be discovered by that psycho no matter what!

After doing a little mental prep talk to raise his spirit, Gu Luoxin continued to leap across roofs. He planned to continue his original plan to stalk Master Grinu and act as a double agent for the Eldest Young Master of the Land aka his senior, but then he had to change his course when his earpiece buzzed to inform him of an incoming call. His eyes lit up at once.

Speak of the devil—it must be Noir!
