Surprise flickered in the emerald eyes of the black cat. "A misunderstanding, you say?"

Gu Luoxin gave a firm nod, his eyes brimming in determination. He might not be as smart as Shen Nianzu, or as powerful as Jin Jiuchi, but if there was one thing he could be proud of— it was that he had read a lot of books, starting from classics, poetry, novels, documentaries to comics. He was pretty certain that he had developed a keen radar for guessing story plots, and when he was shown the Queen’s memories earlier, the alarm in his mind was ringing loudly.

There was no mistaking it— this must be the misunderstanding arc he hated the most!

As he had only heard the Queen’s side of the story, he couldn’t say for certain that he had grasped the full picture. That’s why! He had to bring Caen and Lumina into this! He needed the three of them to sit down and talk everything out!

"And how will you do it meow?" Lucius inquired, prompting a relieved sigh from Gu Luoxin because he wasn’t sure at first if the black cat would trust his baseless conjecture.

"Xinxin! Lucius!"

From within the swirling shadows, Shen Nianzu emerged and following close behind him was a gigantic white wolf-dog which was Jin Jiuchi.

Gu Luoxin’s poor mouse eyes were almost blinded by the radiant light emanating from Jin Jiuchi’s body, enveloping Shen Nianzu within and keeping the dark shadows from touching even the tip of his silver hair. As the two of them approached, the circle of light expanded to cover Gu Luoxin, Lucius and Noir. For some reason, Gu Luoxin felt like breathing had become much easier, perhaps coupled with the fact that he had reunited with his teammates.

Now he had nothing to fear anymore!

Gu Luoxin greeted them with tears in his eyes, "Ciit ciit!" Xiao Shen, Da Shen, you guys are here!

"Arf arf woof woof!" Look at you, you’ve become so tiny and ugly hahaha!

Of course, the first thing Jin Jiuchi would do after their long-awaited reunion was to mock him right on the face, but right now, Gu Luoxin had no intention to bicker with him because he was more ecstatic with the fact that this stinky dog could understand his language!

Lucius steered the conversation back, "Meow?" So what’s the plan?

Shen Nianzu: "..."

Observing the smooth conversation among the mouse, cat, and dog before him, for the first time in his life, Shen Nianzu experienced what it must feel like to be an outcast. He couldn’t help but fall into a thoughtful silence.

Perhaps I should buy a prop that can translate animal language as a precaution for the future, he thought. Wait, is there even such a prop in the store?

Fortunately, he was not left alone for long because Noir stirred awake shortly after, thanks to Jin Jiuchi’s protective shield. Clutching his head, he let out a muffled groan, immediately capturing Gu Luoxin’s attention.

"Ciit ciit...!" Thank God, Senior, you’re finally awake!

Noir shook his head to shake off the lingering haze clouding his mind, and when he opened his beautiful eyes, it was to the sight of a brown mouse nestling atop his chest.

Gu Luoxin: "...!"

H–He had forgotten that he was standing on Noir’s chest all this while. What kind of blasphemy had he committed to step on the Great God’s body with his filthy paws?! Panicked, he scrambled to get off, but Noir once again scooped him into his palm, eliciting a startled squeak from Gu Luoxin.

"I’ve heard the gist from Lucius," was the first thing he said as he climbed to his feet. His gaze then fell upon Shen Nianzu. "You too, your divine prop should be able to bridge the communication between us."

Understanding dawned on Shen Nianzu, and in the next moment, a palm-sized mermaid materialized from thin air, clinging to his neck.

Without beating around the bush, Gu Luoxin immediately relayed his plan, "We have to let Her Majesty the Queen meet Caen and Lumina! I suspect that it’s all a misunderstanding ciit!"

Unfortunately, he had no time to explain his hypothesis as a violent earthquake swept through the palace, causing half of the ceiling to collapse! The Queen had nearly broken free of her seal and escaped the palace. She would wreak havoc on the town and eliminate everyone within if they delayed any longer!

"I think I understand what you mean," Shen Nianzu said. "I have a suspicion on who the real mastermind is, but let me and Da Shen take care of them. You and Noir handle the Queen. Da Shen will open a path for you."

As if showing off his prowess, Jin Jiuchi threw his head back and released a long howl. With brutal ferocity, he bit down on the swirling shadows and tore them apart as if they were mere cotton candy, swallowing them into his stomach without chewing!

"Woof!" Let’s go go go!

The massive beast dropped himself flat to the ground, and Gu Luoxin watched with his jaws hanging open in awe and envy as Shen Nianzu smoothly climbed up, turning him into a mount. Setting aside how annoying Jin Jiuchi was, he... he looked so fluffy! It must feel so incredible to be buried in that thick fur!

With Jin Jiuchi leading the way, the group rushed toward Caen and Lumina, whose lives were hanging by a thread. Jin Jiuchi effortlessly tore the restraints around their bodies with his razor-sharp teeth, while Shen Nianzu caught their small bodies as they fell from midair, handing them over to Noir.

"Good luck," Shen Nianzu wished them.

Nodding, Noir proceeded to toss Caen and Lumina to Lucius, who rolled his eyes but still caught them in his mouth. Gu Luoxin couldn’t help but send a worried glance their way, because he had experienced first-hand how scary it felt to dangle in the jaws of the black cat. Caen and Lumina were lucky to be unconscious in this regard.

The group then split into two, with Noir and Gu Luoxin heading straight to where the Queen was.

"What’s your plan?" Noir asked the brown mouse cradled in his palm. "She’s lost her mind. It won’t be easy to persuade her when she has been convinced of their betrayals for years."

"I know ciit," Gu Luoxin muttered, his mousy face scrunched up in frustration. "If only we could convey Caen and Lumina’s side of the story directly to the Queen... she might finally see the truth!"

"Ah," Noir exclaimed softly, and then he produced a handful of small, translucent cubes from his other palm. Gu Luoxin’s nose twitched as a sweet and delicate smell teased his senses. They were... candies?

"These should do," the emerald-eyed man remarked.

They were none other than memory candies he had given Shen Nianzu earlier.
