When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 463: We Have Intruders
Chapter 463: We Have Intruders
Gu Luoxin’s jaws dropped to the floor, his eyes widening in shock and disbelief.
W–What had he just heard? This tiny delicate creature was... the fairy godmother? The same fairy godmother who was supposed to cast her magic on Cinderella? Why was she locked up in this place? And more importantly, wasn’t she meant to be there for Jin Jiuchi and help him reach the palace?
Oh no, how was Da Shen supposed to attend the royal ball without her? The whole cast wouldn’t be complete without Cinderella!
As those thoughts swirled rapidly inside his mind, Gu Luoxin received another shock when a familiar prompt echoed inside his mind.
[You have received the task from the core NPC Fairy Godmother, Lumina. Many years ago, she had her heart moved by a pitiful and lonely girl who was longing to go to the royal ball. Lumina bestowed her magic upon the girl, blessing her with a lifetime of happiness and love, only for the tale to end tragically. For that reason, she lost her magic and could only watch as her beloved suffered day by day. Your main task is to restore Lumina’s magic. Time limit: midnight. Please strive to achieve the best results to obtain the return ticket!]
Gu Luoxin: "..."
What was up with that task? He wasn’t even a magician so how could he possibly restore her magic? He was just a simple and ordinary brown mouse without any power whatsoever, for God’s sake!
Lumina observed the myriads of emotions flickering across Gu Luoxin’s mousy features, and a relieved smile tugged on her lips. "Sure enough, you know who I am. Have you encountered the guardians I appointed?" she inquired with an expression full of hope, but unfortunately Gu Luoxin could only offer her a look of confusion.
Guardians?
Since entering this Cycle, he had become a mouse who struggled everyday just to have a single meal, so where did these guardians come from?
"Wait..." Caen, who had been silently listening, interjected from the side. "You two know each other ciit?"
Gu Luoxin: "..." What a strong déjà vu.
Once again, Gu Luoxin pulled out the same excuse he had used with Lucius. "Ahaha, it’s so weird ciit. I don’t know how to explain it, but some memories suddenly came back to me once I saw her?"
Caen’s lone eye sparkled in awe and admiration. "As expected, you’re truly amazing ciit!"
"No, no, it’s nothing like that!" Gu Luoxin was desperate to drop the topic at this before he dug an even deeper hole for himself. "More importantly, Caen, I think we have to—"
"Caen?!" The mention of the one-eyed mouse’s name startled Lumina so much that she threw herself against the metal bars, struggling to get a better view of the mouse below. "Did you just mention Caen? His Majesty the King?!"
"Y–You know me ciit?!" Caen exclaimed, greatly shocked.
Gu Luoxin was taken aback as well, but he quickly worked through the logical sequence of events inside his mind. According to the prompt given by the Nightmare, apparently a similar Cinderella had appeared in the past who had now become the Queen. It was Lumina who had helped her to attend the royal ball and catch the attention of the King, so it was only natural for her to recognize him.
But there was still one thing Gu Luoxin couldn’t understand no matter what—
How had the previous story ended in such a tragedy, resulting in the Queen becoming evil, the King reduced into a mouse, and the fairy godmother being locked up in prison?
"What kind of creature are you ciit?" Caen asked in alarm. "How do you recognize me in this form? Don’t tell me... are you the one who placed this goddamn curse on me ciit?!"
"I–I am not!" Lumina hastily denied, tears filling her beautiful eyes once more. "I never intended for things to end up like this. Please... you have to believe me, Your Majesty!"
The other mice, who had been acting as silent spectators until now, finally couldn’t contain their curiosity anymore. "What was that ciit? Why did she call you ’Your Majesty’, Caen?"
"She’s so tiny ciit!"
"I have never seen anything like her before. She surely can’t be human, right?"
Faced with the questions from the mice, Caen found himself at an utter loss of words. He had never planned to reveal his true identity to the mice, not only because it was far too embarrassing, but also because he figured no one would believe his words.
A King reduced into a street mouse? Yeah, it sounded too unbelievable even to his own ears. Moreover, their simple minds definitely wouldn’t be able to grasp the gravity of his situation.
Sensing that the situation was about to spiral out of control, Gu Luoxin finally took charge,
"Alright, we can discuss all of this later ciit!" He raised his voice to cut through the murmurs in the air. As much as he wanted to uncover the truth, he knew this wasn’t the right time, especially with the royal ball in full swing. "The most important thing right now is to get out of here ciit. Please come with us, Lumina!" he pleaded.
He still had no idea how to complete the main task, but he reckoned that he should get Lumina out of the prison first and reunite with his teammates. If there was anyone who could come up with a solution, it could only be Shen Nianzu. This was a royal ball, so he would surely be here. Gu Luoxin must not miss out on this opportunity!
"You... want me to come with you?" Lumina gazed at the cage around her with a sorrowful gaze. "But how...?"
She had been trapped in this desolate prison for years, her cries of help echoing in the darkness with no one to heed them, let alone offer her freedom.
Yet now, at long last, her salvation had come in the form of a mouse who could grant her both.
"Oh, that’s easy ciit," Gu Luoxin remarked happily as he summoned his divine prop, Toki. In the next second, the baby dragon materialized out of thin air, startling the other mice into a frenzy. While Caen busied himself reassuring them that they were safe, Gu Luoxin agilely climbed onto Toki’s fleshy arms and requested, "Please help me free her ciit!"
With a resolute nod, Toki emitted a ’mrrph’ sound, shook his little butt and launched himself off the ground, hurtling toward the cage like a rocket.
Placing Gu Luoxin atop his head, between his little horns, he then grabbed the metal bars with his bare hands. A sizzling sound emanated from his palms that lit up with a blue flame, and in a matter of seconds, the metal bars melted like they were nothing more than a block of heated butter!
"Toki, you’re amazing ciit!" Gu Luoxin praised with bright eyes. In response, Toki brought Gu Luoxin to his arms and nuzzled his face into the dirty fur, squealing happily.
Lumina gaped at them in shock and awe, having collapsed on the cage floor. "W–What are you two...?"
Not knowing how to explain, Gu Luoxin could only settle with, "I will explain everything later." He extended a paw to Lumina and stated earnestly, "You’re free now. Let’s get out of here ciit!"
Lumina’s pupils shrank when she heard that, her lips quivering with deep emotions. Tremblingly, she reached out and grasped Gu Luoxin’s tiny paw, allowing herself to be led out of the cage that had confined her in this oppressive solitude for years.
Toki brought the two of them to land on the ground before vanishing, as his body was too big to pass through the door.
Upon closer inspection, Gu Luoxin belatedly realized that the door was just right for Lumina’s size. He couldn’t help but feel a little surprised and lots of confusion. Why would the Queen construct a door unnoticed by humans, yet perfectly suited for the little fairy to pass through, and without a lock, no less?
The question gnawed at his mind, yet Gu Luoxin simply couldn’t come up with an answer no matter how hard he racked his brain, so he could only shelve the doubt for the time being.
Turning to Caen and the frazzled mice who could barely calm themselves, Gu Luoxin resolutely declared, "Let’s leave this place ciit!" He took the lead to step out of the door with Lumina close behind him, followed by Caen and the other mice.
Caen spoke up, "Alright, let’s continue to make our way out of—"
"Look what we have here," a sinister voice interrupted him as a piece of shadow separated from the dark corner, revealing a tall and robust middle-aged man clad in royal attire. A gleam of malice flashed in his lone eye as they reflected the mice and the glowing little fairy on the ground beneath his feet. "We have intruders."
It was none other than the Queen, who was currently impersonating the King!
Pupils dilating, Gu Luoxin shouted the only word in his mind. "RUN—!"
