When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 461: Did You Hear That?
Chapter 461: Did You Hear That?
"How is the coast?"
"Clear ciit!"
"Okay, let’s go!"
A dozen mice, with Caen leading the way and Gu Luoxin guarding the rear, scurried across the garden and hid themselves among the bushes, taking in the sight of the tall and looming palace before them. Against the backdrop of the night sky, the palace seemed to emit a dazzling light, showcasing its splendor and elegance.
"S–So many humans ciit!" one of the mice exclaimed in trepidation.
Indeed, guards in their immaculate uniforms stationed themselves at every turn, while expensive carriages lined up along the path leading to the entrance. Emerging from them were mostly young ladies, dressed in their finest gown, their smiles brimming with excitement and anticipation. Meanwhile, men donned sharp suits and tailcoats, eager to forge connections with people of noble rank. Servants trailed behind them, each carrying a cage draped in cloth, which would then undergo inspection by the guards at the entrance doors.
While the other mice chittered nervously about how they had never been to a place with so many humans, Caen and Gu Luoxin remained silent. There was a slightly melancholic look in Caen’s lone eye as he gazed at the dazzling scene as though he was reliving the past, whereas Gu Luoxin found himself entranced by the exquisite and luxurious attires he saw.
How beautiful! How fabulous! They were authentic outfits hailing from the medieval era! Oh how he wished he could study them more closely, or even wear them himself, albeit he knew it would be impossible in his current form.
Glancing down at himself, Gu Luoxin released a depressed sigh.
He couldn’t help but wonder how Noir and his teammates were doing right now. Last time he saw Lucius was two days ago, and the black cat simply vanished after telling him that Noir had gotten into trouble.
Subsequently, Gu Luoxin became so worried that he couldn’t eat and sleep well. Unlike Caen, who was brimming with energy at the prospect of breaking his curse, Gu Luoxin had become a down-trodden, dirtier mouse with unkempt fur since there was no longer anyone who would groom it for him...
Realizing that his thoughts had wandered again like it often did for the past two days, Gu Luoxin promptly shook his head and told himself to focus on the matter at hand. Tonight was the climax of this Cycle. Whether he would live to see the sunrise tomorrow, it all depended on his performance tonight!
Summoning his spirits, he turned to Caen, inquiring, "Are you sure this is the right way ciit? Can we really enter the palace through here?"
With a solemn nod, Caen affirmed, "There’s no mistaking it ciit. That year, when I had just turned, I escaped through this very path to save my own life. I can’t forget it even if I want to. Let’s go, everyone. We will rescue our friends and family who’ve fallen into human hands. Tonight will be our night!" He declared in an authoritative and awe-inspiring tone.
In response, all the mice rose to his call. "Ciit—!"
Keeping a vigilant watch over the surroundings, Caen cautioned the mice to stick close to the shadows as they moved along the wall, making their way to the back kitchen.
Unbeknownst to them, soon after they vacated the space, another carriage pulled up, and three beautiful ladies emerged. One of them possessed ethereal silver hair with pale purple eyes— it was none other than Shen Nianzu.
Stepping out, Shen Nianzu’s attention was drawn to the swaying and rustling bushes on the side garden, prompting Eva to ask, "What is it, Sister Rosie?"
"Nothing," Shen Nianzu shook his head. "I must have seen wrong. Let us enter."
And thus, Gu Luoxin missed yet another chance to reunite with his ever reliable teammate.
Along with the start of the royal ball, the back kitchen was in pure chaos as servants rushed back and forth, while chefs moved swiftly to prepare an area of exquisite cuisines, desserts and beverages. Instructions rang out one after another as the head servant divided the task, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Amidst this organized chaos, no one spared a glance for the line of mice that slipped in through the gap in the door, quietly retreating to the corner.
With an extremely serious look, Caen motioned to the others, "Let’s move. Stick close to me and make sure not to get lost ciit!"
At this moment, Caen was the only one who knew the way. If they were to be separated, they would be done for. Either they would be trapped here, praying for a stroke of luck to find their way out, or they would be killed when someone discovered their presence.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, all the mice, including Gu Luoxin, gulped and nodded tensely in agreement.
With the number of people going in and out of the kitchen, they were forced to stick to the wall and took the longer path in order to not attract any unwarranted attention. Being the one leading the way, Caen was the first to rush out, his strong and nimble body swiftly darting across the floor and slipping out through the kitchen door. With Caen as an example, other mice followed suit.
However, trouble came to the ones behind in line, as they had to wait for the mice in front to go first, causing them to be exposed to the various delectable aroma in the air.
"S–Smells so good ciit..."
For creatures who had gotten used to living in the underground sewer, the scent of a fresh meal was akin to an irresistible lure, tempting them into seeking where it had come from.
Oh no! Gu Luoxin’s heart almost leaped to his throat as he watched one of the mice stray from the shadows, dangerously close to the chef’s line of sight.
A fraction of second before they were discovered, Gu Luoxin sprang into action; he lunged forward and snatched the distracted mouse, dragging it along with him as they burst out of the kitchen door!
Gu Luoxin felt like his heart was about to burst out of his chest the moment they successfully emerged into an empty hallway. But alas, he had not even breathed a sigh of relief when Caen’s urgent voice sounded, "Not good ciit! The head butler is heading here. Quickly hide!"
A wave of panic overcame Gu Luoxin, and he felt like his entire fur was about to fall off from extreme stress. Hide? Where should he hide?!
With no time to assess their surroundings, Gu Luoxin was completely lost and he could only blindly follow behind the other mice. Hurry... they must not be caught by humans at this critical juncture, or they would definitely be done for!
The world blurred around him as they darted through twists and turns, leaving the kitchen behind. At some point of a time, the atmosphere around them shifted abruptly. The candles seemed to turn a little dimmer, and a chill swept through the air, sending strange shivers down Gu Luoxin’s spine.
As the group paused to catch their breath, he couldn’t help but inquire, "W–Where are we ciit?"
"Ah." Looking around, a look of somber realization dawned on Caen’s face. "We’re in the passageway leading to the underground prison chamber. People seldom pass by here so we should be safe for a while. Still, we must continue our journey as soon as possible."
Caen allowed everyone a short rest of five minutes before he positioned himself at the front once more, leading the way out. "Come on, it’s time to move ciit."
However, when he turned back to check, he found that Gu Luoxin still remained motionless in place. Thinking that the brown mouse hadn’t hear him earlier, he called out again, "Xinxin, we will be leaving now ciit!"
"W–Wait!" Gu Luoxin exclaimed in a haste as he stared into the dim passageway. "Did you hear that ciit?" he whispered, his voice almost cracking in the end.
"Hear what?"
Shuddering, Gu Luoxin slowly turned to him with a constipated look. "A cry..." he choked out, his voice trembling in fear. "Someone is crying ciit. Y–You didn’t hear that?"
