Chapter 400: No Ordinary Promise
Chapter 400: No Ordinary Promise
The four of them were led into a VIP room, away from the inquisitive gazes of others. Dinner was absolutely ravishing and sumptuous; both Gu Luoxin and Jin Jiuchi would have asked for seconds if Shen Nianzu hadn’t reminded them of the event they were going to attend later.
That’s right, the fireworks show and live performances!
The firework show was scheduled to start at 10 pm, while the live performances had already kicked off at seven. When the four of them finished dinner and made their way to the glass building, it was a little past nine, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement thanks to the singer on stage who was delivering a passionate ballad with her sonorous voice.
Pulling the jade doll closer by the waist, Jin Jiuchi whispered, "Nian’er will make a better singer than her. Too bad, I can’t bear to watch people covet what’s mine."
"You...!" Shen Nianzu glared at him despite the flush blooming across his cheeks.
Jin Jiuchi had been keeping it up tonight, or to be exact since he caught sight of Shen Nianzu coming out of the bathroom in this outfit. His hand had never left Shen Nianzu’s side as though fearing that the latter would disappear if he let go, and he would whisper cheesy words without batting an eyelid.
His desire to monopolize seemed to have been provoked, as he would glare at anyone who so much as to give Shen Nianzu a second glance.
Did he truly not realize that there were more people checking him out than they did Shen Nianzu? Not that Shen Nianzu regretted ever sweet-talking him into wearing the suit. He looked so impossibly handsome tonight, and it took Shen Nianzu all his willpower not to salivate all over the man. He did not mind others checking Jin Jiuchi out, because that’s all they could do— watch and long for him, when all of his attention had been squarely on Shen Nianzu from the beginning to end. They could only envy Shen Nianzu for having such a ravishing companion for the night.
Shen Nianzu pinched Jin Jiuchi’s arm lightly and harrumphed, "I sound better underwater, you know it. I’m still tone-deaf on land."
"You’re what?!" Jin Jiuchi gasped theatrically. "How could that be possible?! Nian’er can just sing casually, and no one will be better than him!"
"Yeah, yeah, Mr. Smooth Talker. Keep going," Shen Nianzu rolled his eyes with faux annoyance, though he was feeling extremely giddy inside.
Today had been exceptionally fun. Everything had gone so smoothly and perfectly that it felt like a dream – one he did not ever want to wake up from. Of course, having a certain husky acting all guarded and possessive towards him certainly highlighted his day.
Weaving through the crowd, they finally managed to find an empty booth spacious enough for all four of them. In a nearby booth, a group of people seemed to be playing the drinking game, their boisterous cheers filling the air. It made Jin Jiuchi curious.
"Nian’er, I also want to drink!" he chimed in.
"No," Shen Nianzu refused coldly, causing him to wither in dejection. "Have you forgotten Grandpa Song’s story? You’re a lightweight. If you pass out here, I wouldn’t be able to carry you back to our room!"
"But..." Still not reconciled, Jin Jiuchi cast a glance at Noir, who seemed to be absorbed in his own world as he munched on peanuts. The meaning behind his glance was clear: if Shen Nianzu couldn’t, then what about Noir? Surely, the man would be strong enough to drag him back, right?
Shen Nianzu almost laughed out of anger. This damned stubborn husky! Cursing inwardly, Shen Nianzu was forced to deploy a trick behind his sleeve. He leaned closer to Jin Jiuchi and whispered in a voice that only both of them could hear, "Haven’t I promised to give you something tonight? What if you’re too inebriated to receive it?"
Jin Jiuchi’s invisible ears perked up almost immediately. This was no ordinary promise – it was the one he had been waiting for since the night at Song Yunshi’s residence!
Shen Nianzu had been putting it on hold again and again despite Jin Jiuchi’s attempts to claim it. In the end, he finally revealed that it was going to be a big surprise during their trip. Jin Jiuchi thought that what they had been doing was pleasurable enough. After all, he had been given the permission to savor the jade doll’s sweet release as much as he wanted and got pleasured in return.
But then, Shen Nianzu told him that he was going to receive something better?
Jin Jiuchi felt a shudder running down his spine as he gazed into Shen Nianzu’s pale purple eyes which looked particularly ethereal under the dim glow of the room. "Nian’er, now that you brought it up... I hardly can wait." His gaze roamed all over Shen Nianzu’s face, taking in his beautiful and delicate features. All of a sudden, he felt hungry again despite having just finished dinner. "Can’t we just return to our room? Like, right now?" He urged, squeezing Shen Nianzu around the waist.
But Shen Nianzu stood firm against the temptation, even though Jin Jiuchi could tell through the hitch of his breath that he was not entirely unaffected. "Later..." he said, his voice tinged with a hint of rasp. "You must exercise patience, Jin Jiuchi."
Jin Jiuchi clicked his tongue. "You know that you’re asking for the impossible, but well... I guess I can try it for you."
"Good," Shen Nianzu smiled in satisfaction.
The four of them settled only for sparkling water – both Jin Jiuchi and Gu Luoxin being lightweight, while Noir and Shen Nianzu were not fans of alcohol. Fifteen minutes in, Jin Jiuchi could no longer stay put in his seat and pulled Shen Nianzu to walk around, leaving Gu Luoxin and Noir alone.
This was precisely the situation Gu Luoxin wanted to avoid the most, though the warm atmosphere seemed to ease the tension between them a lot.
Cracking a peanut, Gu Luoxin’s gaze wandered around the surroundings, but only he knew that his attention had been solely fixed on the man in his peripheral vision. Even though they ate the same snack, somehow Noir managed to make it look like he was tasting a royal cuisine. He had a unique aura that made him stand out in the crowd, unable to blend in. Despite the lively atmosphere, somehow in Gu Luoxin’s eyes, Noir appeared... lonely.
Gu Luoxin felt his heart tighten, and he blurted out without thinking, "I’m sorry, Senior."
