Does he think he’s a sleeping beauty or something?" With a harrumph, he finally shifted his gaze from Jin Jiuchi’s stupidly handsome face toward Gu Luoxin. "How about you? Are you doing fine?"

Gu Luoxin nodded again and again like chicken pecking rice. "Of course, I’m fine! I wasn’t injured too badly in the Cycle, and these few days of rest are already more than enough for me! Intrigued, Shen Nianzu reached out and poked the tiny creature on the cheek, causing him to scrunch up his brows in annoyance. Blindly, he opened his mouth and spat out a mini tongue of blue flame before turning his butt to Shen Nianzu, making himself more comfortable in Gu Luoxin’s palm.

Gu Luoxin cradled the baby closer and cooed softly, "He’s such a sweet little boy, isn’t he? Sometimes, I forget that he’s a nightmare creature."

Shen Nianzu merely let out a non-committal hum in response.

The two of them chatted for a while before Gu Luoxin returned to his own room, leaving Shen Nianzu alone with Jin Jiuchi. Gazing at the slumbering man’s visage, Shen Nianzu couldn’t suppress a wistful sigh as he reached out to squeeze Jin Jiuchi’s warm palm. "Until when will you keep sleeping, you idiot husky?"

Amidst the rhythmic beeps of the heartbeat monitor and the whispers of the leaves outside the window, Shen Nianzu’s soft voice resonated,

"Wake up soon. Don’t make me wait for too long."

The next day, Shen Nianzu was not roused by his internal alarm like usual, but by an unusual commotion outside his door. Groaning, he reluctantly cracked his eyes open to find that the sky outside the window was still quite dark. It was not even six am yet, for God’s sake! Why was it so noisy?

Grumbling under his breath, he forced himself out of bed and dragged his feet toward the door. He slid it open just by a crack to observe the situation, only to be taken aback as a group of doctors, nurses and security guards hurried past, accompanied by urgent shouting,

"Have you called the police and the firefighter yet?!"

"Yes, they’re on their way!"

"Come, come, we have to hurry!"

"What is going on..." Shen Nianzu muttered in confusion, still not fully awake yet. Just then, a snippet of conversation from the crowd in the hallway drifted to his ears,

"Did you hear? Someone wants to commit suicide!"

"What?! At this hour?!"

"Geez, they’d even climbed to the locked rooftop! Don’t you see that everyone is panicking now?"

"Who is it?"

"I don’t know..."

"Let’s go! Let’s go out and see!"

"If I’m not mistaken, it’s a patient from this floor. You know, that handsome young man who is in a coma?"

Those words hit Shen Nianzu like a splash of cold water, sobering him up in an instant. What did they just say? Handsome young man in a coma? A patient from this floor?

With a surprised gasp, he scrambled there and found only an empty bed with disconnected apparatus and crumpled blanket, while the familiar man was nowhere to be seen.
