Chapter 332: Dimensional Carousel (3)
They were going to die. They were really going to die this time ahh!
Such was the sole thought running through Gu Luoxin’s mind as the massive tyrannosaurus loomed over him. It was said that someone would relive the important events of their life once they were near death, but Gu Luoxin’s mind was terrifyingly blank at that moment. He could only focus on the magnificent sight of the ancient creature coming to life before his eyes. He barely even noticed when the overhanging branches left shallow scratches on his face.
Is it supposed to be that huge? He thought in a daze.
The creature’s roar reverberated akin to the anguished wail of malevolent spirit from the depths of hell, and his breath stung of the putrid stench of blood, rot, and death. With a single thunderous stomp of its massive feet, a huge area of the forest was flattered in an instant, trees razed to the ground.
The horses which led the way became the first sacrifices of the t-rex. A sickening crunch echoed through the air as the predator chomped down on the horses, and pieces of limbs which it could not swallow fell from the sky before shattering into million pieces once they crashed to the ground.
Gu Luoxin witnessed the scene of carnage in sheer horror. It seemed like he could already foresee the way he would die today.
And what made the matters worse was Jin Jiuchi, who suddenly performed a backflip and dismounted from the horse before dashing into the adjacent thicket of trees.
Gu Luoxin’s heart shriveled in fright, "Da Shen—!" His voice cracked with panic as he hollered on top of his lungs. "What are you doing?! Get back here!"
"Just a moment!" was all Jin Jiuchi said before his figure disappeared into the thick foliages beyond.
A moment? How long was that? One minute? Five minutes?! But the tyrannosaurus would be right upon them at any second! Gu Luoxin almost tore his hair out of frustration.
The monstrous predator let loose another deafening roar, causing the very earth and heavens to tremble. With them just mere meters away from the towering beast, Gu Luoxin could practically see every grotesque detail – the wrinkles on its skin, the chunks of bloody flesh stuck to its teeth. His entire body was frozen in pure horror, it was the instinct of weaker beings in the face of a creature much stronger than them.
Gu Luoxin couldn’t breathe; he felt like he was on the verge of hyperventilating. However, in the next moment—
"Catch!"
He snapped his gaze toward the sound in time to see Jin Jiuchi hurling a gleaming white oval object, half the size of a grown adult, directly at Noir, as he made a beeline for his own horse.
Gu Luoxin felt his mind exploding. "Why would you steal its egg?!" he screeched. Did Jin Jiuchi have a death wish or something, provoking that bloodthirsty creature?!
If previously the tyrannosaurus had been in a hungry mode, then this time it entered a berserk mode, charging toward them with alarming speed. Gu Luoxin struggled to maintain his grip on his horse amidst the violent tremors, and through the fierce gale churning the air, he managed to raise his head just in time to witness the jaws of the t-rex only a few inches away from Jin Jiuchi, the egg robber.
In that excruciatingly tense moment, time seemed to have ground to a halt.
It’s over... everything is really over. They will die here because of a stupid dinosaur egg, and they will have to rely on the next team to repeat everything all over again.
Tears welled up in Gu Luoxin’s eyes. "——!!!" He did not even know what he was shouting; it might have been a desperate scream or a torrent of curses directed at Jin Jiuchi for his suicidal act. Every fiber of his being was stretched to the limit, his throat raw, his body trembling with the intensity of his emotions.
And heeding his call, a humongous cyan kingkong materialized on the battlefield. With a deafening roar, it delivered a powerful punch to the tyrannosaurus’ nose, creating a narrow window of opportunity for Jin Jiuchi to roll away with his entire body intact!
Alas, his horse was already far away by then.
In a seamless cooperation, Jin Jiuchi leaped toward Noir at the same time as Noir extended a hand to pull Jin Jiuchi onto his horse. For the first time ever, the aloof player could be heard cursing loudly, unable to help himself anymore. "Fuck you!"
"ROAR—!"
The cyan kingkong, who had shot up from level 7 to level 9, appeared far more robust and imposing than before. Its entire body was covered in thick bulging muscles, and sharp teeth jutted out of its mouth. Its countenance looked much more ferocious too, only slightly offset by the comical hairpin on its head. With a thunderous roar, it pounded on its chest, climbed onto the nearest tree and leaped onto the tyrannosaurus’ back, throwing mad punches to it over and over again!
Gu Luoxin could only watch in a daze as his kingkong fought tooth and nail with the giant predator, even... standing on the same ground with it? Why hadn’t he known that his skill card was so powerful until now?
"Nice, Xinxin!" Jin Jiuchi flashed him a thumbs-up, his laughter tinged with nervous relief. "Holy shit, you just saved my life!"
"Shut up!" Both Noir and Gu Luoxin snapped at him at the same time, prompting Jin Jiuchi to seal his mouth shut with a wronged look.
The group of surviving horses left the chaotic battlefield behind them, and soon they reentered the familiar starry skyscapes. The twinkling stars surrounded once more, a tranquil scenery that was a far cry from the earlier pandemonium.
Even then, Gu Luoxin couldn’t seem to calm himself down. His entire body was still shaking, his breath remained ragged, and his teeth chattered violently. Beads of perspiration drenched his body, though he had no idea whether it was due to the fear or exhilaration of the harrowing experience.
The horses soon transformed back into statues, and the thrilling ride slowly came to a gradual halt. The marble floor pieced together again at the same time as a loud trumpet sounded, signaling the end of the attraction.
Gu Luoxin shakily crawled down from the horse, his legs feeling like jelly, almost stumbling over his own feet. He felt as if this brief ride had robbed him of half his lifespan, despite lasting for less than ten minutes. He mentally added the carousel to his list of trauma from now on.
Meanwhile, the two people up front were already engaged in close range combat.
"Hey, hey, careful there!" Jin Jiuchi exclaimed as he deftly dodged a fist coming for his face. "You must not damage the egg! It’s very important to us!"
However, Noir couldn’t care less about it. He was extremely pissed, the kind where he could not be satisfied until he pummeled the other person to the ground. "Fuck you," he hissed under his breath as he came forward once more to swing his fist, while the other arm was clutching the egg under his armpit.
"Don’t you have another sentence to say?" Jin Jiuchi tutted as he agilely evaded the punches.
"Go fuck yourself."
However, it was not Noir’s fist that connected with Jin Jiuchi’s face in the end; it was Gu Luoxin’s. Perhaps the two of them did not expect it either, because Noir froze mid-pose while Jin Jiuchi directly plopped his butt on the ground, gaping at the seething Gu Luoxin.
"You... idiot!!!" Gu Luoxin roared, his voice echoing all around the empty carousel. Tears streamed down his face as he unleashed his rage and fear. "Why would you do that just for... just for a stupid egg?! What if I hadn’t saved you in time? What if you died?! What would I tell Xiao Shen?!"
Jin Jiuchi winced and casually licked the blood from the corner of his lips. "Okay, first things first, I wouldn’t necessarily die back then." When Gu Luoxin shot him a furious glare, he asserted again, his lips twisting into an exasperated curl. "I’m serious! It’s the rule of this attraction. As long as we’re riding the blue horse, we will be safe."
Looking around, Jin Jiuchi’s words seemed to hold true because other horses were either shattered to pieces or missing one or two limbs, while only the blue horses remained unscathed.
However...
"You... You weren’t even on your horse, you bastard!" Gu Luoxin snapped at him, so angry that he seemed to be breathing fire. Did Jin Jiuchi think that he was a three-year-old child who could be fooled easily?!
Jin Jiuchi mulled it over for a moment before grudgingly conceding, "... You’re right. But I believed I could escape one way or another. Didn’t I receive help earlier?" He grinned at Noir, to which the man responded with a scowl. Seeing that, Jin Jiuchi finally relented with a heavy sigh, "Okay, okay, no more jokes. Geez, why are you two so serious? I know it’s dangerous, but when is it not in this place? This is something that must be done, and only I, who knows the egg’s location, can do it."
Gu Luoxin glared at him before turning away with a harrumph. He had to admit that Jin Jiuchi’s explanation made some sense. Even if he had told Gu Luoxin and Noir, they might not have made it in time, thus increasing the risk of the operation. He shifted his attention to the large egg in Noir’s clutches. "So what is it? What’s so special about the egg? Can it lead us to the exit or something?"
The egg that could make Jin Jiuchi risk his life should be hella important, right?
Grinning deviously, Jin Jiuchi sprang to his feet and took the egg from Noir, caressing the smooth surface with an evil look akin to a black witch who was planning to concoct poison. "Xinxin, Noir, say hello to our tour guide, Toki."
