When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 331: Dimensional Carousel (2)
Chapter 331: Dimensional Carousel (2)
With this revelation from Jin Jiuchi, they had no more reason to doubt his intention. The three of them stepped through the door, and after a brief period of darkness, they suddenly found themselves standing in the heart of a magical carousel.
"Whoa..." Gu Luoxin couldn’t suppress his astonishment as his gaze roamed the surroundings. Reaching towards the infinite heights of a starlit canopy, stood the Dimensional Carousel – a colossal marvel of gilded mirrors and ornate carvings that seemed to kiss the heavens. The horses were positioned at least one meter apart, each was a masterpiece of craftsmanship, their regal forms adorned with intricate filigree and sparkling gemstones that captured the ambient light and cast it in a shimmering kaleidoscope.
A soft, ethereal tune drifted from the heart of the carousel, filling the air with its enchanting melody. Everything was so dreamy, so magical that Gu Luoxin would be beside himself with excitement, if only this was not inside the Cycle filled with deadly traps. After all, he had forgotten the last time he had been to an amusement park.
The three of them stood with their backs against each other, surveying the area.
"Where’s the tour guide?" Noir asked.
Gu Luoxin followed with another question, gulping nervously, "Can we pass the attraction if we complete one round?"
Instead of answering, Jin Jiuchi pointed at a particular horse a few distance away, its front hooves gracefully raised into the air. "See that blue horse over there? That’s the one we have to ride. No other color will do. Well, it’s not like I can stop you if you prefer another color."
Gu Luoxin almost blurted out, ’How do you know that?’ But fortunately, he held back his tongue in time. Of course, Jin Jiuchi would know. This was a piece of previous information he had acquired at the cost of his life – everyone’s life.
Noir blinked, "What do these colors signify?"
Jin Jiuchi flashed him a sly grin, "Wanna find out for yourself?"
For a suspended moment, the two of them stared at each other, and Gu Luoxin seemed to catch sparks flying between their line of eye contact. The tension in the air intensified, and Gu Luoxin, this poor and abused young man, had to bear the full brunt of their oppressive aura. He felt like a little helpless mouse trapped between a wolf and tiger. T–They wouldn’t suddenly fight out of nowhere... right?
Fortunately, God still took mercy on him because the next second, a loud trumpet sound pierced the air and the carousel started to move after a jerk. Gu Luoxin clung to the nearby pole to maintain his balance and exclaimed. "It’s starting! It’s starting!"
Both Jin Jiuchi and Noir’s expressions abruptly changed, and the former shouted, "Go! The blue horse!"
Gu Luoxin’s reflex kicked in and he took off running like an arrow released from its string. His frantic eyes darted around until they landed on a blue horse a few meters ahead.
There it was!
With a sharp cry, Gu Luoxin ran with all of his strength before leaping forward and sticking to the horse like a gecko. By the time he managed to settle on the saddle properly, the marble floor beneath him split open, revealing the chasm of void filled with luminous constellations that stretched indefinitely like the Milky Way.
Gu Luoxin’s face contorted in sheer horror as he clung to the horse for dear life, his heart still pounding away like a drum. T–That was such a close call! Fortunately, he made it in time or else he would have fallen below!
With trembling hands, he made sure to keep a secure hold on his mount before raising his head to find Jin Jiuchi and Noir a few meters ahead.
"Hold tight! It’s starting!" Jin Jiuchi yelled out with a hint of exhilaration, which caused Gu Luoxin’s heart to stutter.
W–What was starting?
He got his answer the next second when the horses gracefully glided across the vast starry sky, and the constellations seemed to swirl around them in a mesmerizing cosmic dance. It was as if the very universe had come to life, and he could almost hear the faint whispers of those countless stars, each one a story waiting to be explored.
Overwhelmed by the breathtaking spectacle, Gu Luoxin’s voice escaped his lips in a hushed whisper, "Oh my God..."
Gu Luoxin couldn’t seem to close his jaws as he gazed in awe at the enchanting panorama unfolding around him, but at that moment, he distinctly felt something different around him – or to be exact, under his touch. His mount, once rigid and cold, began to soften, its mane turning silky, its body growing warm. Even its raised hooves were gently lowered to caress the stars.
He realized with grappling shock that the horses were slowly coming alive. It was not only his, but all the horses on the carousel were undergoing a similar transformation as though the stars themselves had breathed life to them.
"Ahhh!!" He cried out in fright, at the same time as Jin Jiuchi cheered, "Woo-hoo!! Isn’t it fun?!"
Gu Luoxin had never felt the urge to curse as much as now. With tears in his eyes, he yelled back, "...But I have never ridden a horse before! What should I do?!"
"Just hold on tight!" came Jin Jiuchi’s enthusiastic response.
There was no other choice; he could only trust the ever unreliable Jin Jiuchi’s words this one time and tightened his grip, almost latching onto the horse with his whole body while clamping his thighs tightly around it. For a split second, he lamented why wasn’t it Shen Nianzu who came here to guide them, but all of his thoughts promptly vanished when the starry sky began to recede, and Gu Luoxin stared in utter stupefaction as the horses rushed into a glowing portal.
In an instant, the scenery around them changed.
The horses’ hooves touched down gently on the ground before they charged forward along a path flanked by thick, wild forests.
Gu Luoxin had to duck low to avoid the thick branches and leaves that almost slapped him on the face. He gritted his teeth and mentally apologized to the poor horse whose mane he was yanking on tight like a set of reins. He shouted to be heard over the echoing gallops, "What now?!"
Jin Jiuchi shouted in response from the front, "Just endure for a bit and don’t fall off the horse!"
An ominous premonition coursed through Gu Luoxin’s body when he heard those words. And sure enough, in the next second, the entire ground trembled violently. It was a vibration akin to a deadly earthquake, strong enough to shake the foundation of the trees and startle a nearby flock of birds into scurrying away.
An ear-deafening roar pierced Gu Luoxin’s eardrums, and he raised his head, dumbfounded, to behold an ancient creature he had only seen in books, movies and museums. Looming over them like a massive shadow that eclipsed the sun, its bloodthirsty eyes locked onto their tiny and helpless group.
He instantly screamed murder, "Tyrannosaurus!!!"
Gu Luoxin’s first instinct was to flee, to yank on the silky mane and try to steer the horse away as if pulling on the reins of a charging steed. But it was no use. Like a bunch of heroic soldiers, the horses continued their march straight toward the apex predator.
