Chapter 231: Gimme, Hurry!

Jin Jiuchi had experienced how it felt to be so hungry that he resorted to devouring anything that was within reach, even if it meant a dirty rat that inadvertently crossed the floor. He had experienced how it felt to be so hungry that every cell in his body was screaming in rage and frustration, his teeth grinding in unison, his stomach a pit of torment. He was very familiar with that kind of hunger.

But not this one.

This hunger ran far deeper, an ache that resonated within the chambers of his heart, a longing for something that was not food— of course, how could he ever treat the jade doll as mere food?

He acknowledged the insatiable yearning he felt for this person. He wished to cradle him gently and carefully as if he was a fragile glass sculpture that would shatter with the slightest force, but at the same time, he also harbored the fierce desire to sink his teeth into the supple flesh, to imprint the mark of his fingerprints on the pristine skin, to taint this purity with his own color and scent. It was the kind of desire that made him shake and tremble all over from the sheer magnitude of it.

And he was lost, utterly lost as to how to deal with it. Hence, he could only direct a miserable look at Shen Nianzu, unaware of how the storm of fervor raging in his silver eyes was akin to a tempest wreaking havoc in the other person’s mind. "What should I do, Nian’er?" he hissed, his voice a low undertone laden with urgency. "Tell me, Nian’er, what am I supposed to do?"

Shen Nianzu’s vision blurred, his breathing ragged and heavy. Perhaps in a parallel universe, another version of Shen Nianzu would have a better response to Jin Jiuchi’s fervent question, but not him. Oh dear Lord in Heaven, how could he possibly remain calm after braving through the onslaught of inexperienced yet frenzied kisses Jin Jiuchi had just rained on him? How could he remain calm after... after hearing the man’s direct and impassioned remark?! To think that it was not him alone who was affected so severely by this pull of attraction between them...

He stared at the man before him in a daze, his mind an expanse of white. Logical thoughts seemed to slip through his fingers, while instinct roared within him, urging him to follow his heart’s long-buried desires.

His heart stirred, and his delicate toes pressed into the mattress so hard that they left an indelible impression. He could no longer tell if the searing heat coursing through him was a result of fever, or the all-consuming desires Jin Jiuchi had ignited within him. If being with Jin Jiuchi meant surrendering to his blazing thirst, then he’d gladly offer himself up as a sacrifice, even if it meant being reduced to ashes.

"Jin Jiuchi..." he tightened his grip around Jin Jiuchi’s shoulders, using them as leverage as he brought himself forward to brush their noses together. The touch was light and delicate, yet a crackle of electricity seemed to pass along the point of their contact, fanning the smothering heat even more intensely. He uttered the man’s name again, soft and intoxicated, "Jin Jiuchi..."

His cream colored lashes fluttered as he angled his head to whisper into Jin Jiuchi’s ear, but before he could get one word out, an insuppressible itch surged up his throat.

He pressed a hand to his lips, quickly turned his head away and coughed.

That one cough seemed like the turn of a faucet— once it started, it couldn’t be stopped anymore. Shen Nianzu was seized by such violent coughing that his whole body shook, his face turning as red as a ripe tomato.

Jin Jiuchi was abruptly pulled out of the haze of desire, panic gripping him like a vice as he grabbed the jade doll’s shoulders. "N–Nian’er!" His voice cracked in fright. "Don’t die!"

"I–I..." won’t die.

Shen Nianzu couldn’t even utter the rest of the sentence before another bout of coughing overtook him. This time, it was even worse, leaving him wheezing and struggling for breath.

Jin Jiuchi’s panic intensified. In an attempt to call for help, he leapt to his feet and bolted towards the door, but in his haste he ended up tripping over the blanket and his entire person crashed face-first to the ground with a resounding bam! After that, he did not get up anymore.

Shen Nianzu’s voice trembled, "Jin Jiuchi!"

Eventually, the commotion drew the attention of Qing Mo, who hurried to the room, only to find an unconscious Jin Jiuchi sprawled on the ground, sporting a large bump on his forehead. Whereas the coughing Shen Nianzu tried to wake him up to no avail.

Qing Mo: "..." I have just been away for a while. How could things turn out like this?

The consequences of making out when both of them were sick was— exacerbating their fever until their temperature exceeded thirty nine degrees Celsius.

In the end, both of them were sent to the private hospital for an overnight observation. Fortunately, after a night of intravenous treatment, Jin Jiuchi’s temperature dropped to normal, while Shen Nianzu still needed to struggle for a little while.

The next day before the dawn even broke, Jin Jiuchi stood in front of Shen Nianzu’s hospital room, gazing at the jade doll’s ill pallor through the glass panel. Pressing his lips tight, he turned away and marched into the room where Gu Luoxin was.

Gu Luoxin did not actually need to be hospitalized along with them, as his fever was relatively mild. But because Qing Mo was worried that his illness would worsen all of a sudden just like Shen Nianzu, he was dragged to the hospital as well and was forced to stay for a night.

In the early morning hours, he was still lost in dreamland when all of a sudden, a pincher claw stretched out from the darkness to pinch his nose!

Gu Luoxin’s eyebrows twitched, and his lashes began to flutter. His mouth opened akin to gaping fish, and not even five seconds later, he snapped open his eyes, crying out tremblingly, "D–Don’t eat me, I taste like shit!"

"Don’t worry, you do not arouse my appetite," the darkness deadpanned in response.

"AH—hmph!" Gu Luoxin’s terrified scream barely lasted for a millisecond before it was muffled by a large palm. His eyes widened in horror and his forehead glistened with sweat. Oh God, I’m going to be killed and no one will even solve the case of my murder because they will think I committed suicide! Those messy thoughts swirled in his mind, until he locked onto a pair of glowing silver eyes that seemed to float amidst the dark. "Hmm-mph?!!" Da Shen?!

Damn it, Jin Jiuchi looked so terrifying when he stood drenched in the shadows. Adding on to his silver eyes that glowed like a predator, he was just like a serial killer poised to strike!

"Sssh!" Jin Jiuchi placed a finger to his lips and motioned for him to stay silent.

Gu Luoxin nodded again and again like chicken pecking rice, and only then did Jin Jiuchi let go of him. In an instant, he took in huge gulps of air and clutched his chest where the fear still lingered. "D–Da Shen, you..." he glanced at the clock and saw that it was just a little past five in the morning. He lowered his voice into a hushed whisper, "Why are you here so early?!"

Jin Jiuchi stretched out a hand, palm up, and demanded like a debt collector, "The materials you said you’re going to lend me— where are they? Gimme, hurry!"

"...Huh?" Gu Luoxin was dazed. Was he still dreaming?
