Chapter 189: The Ship Collapsed!

The deeper Jin Jiuchi went, the more oppressive the heat became. It wrapped around him like a ball of sticky, scalding mochi, clinging to his thick fur and tugging him in four different directions. He could sense himself getting closer and closer to the queen, and a threatening growl reverberated in his throat. Want to devour me? Ha! In your dreams!

He was about to open his jaws wide and chomp down on the misbehaving mochi when all of a sudden, a faint sob brushed against his ears akin to the whisper of the breeze, so soft that Jin Jiuchi would have missed it if not for his heightened hearing.

"It hurts..."

His ears twitched. Wait, where had he heard this voice before? It took him a while to scour through his memory when a sudden realization hit him, causing his eyes to widen in shock. T–This voice... didn’t it belong to the little girl whom he had encountered outside the ship?! How could she be here too?!

Oh no! She wouldn’t happen to be devoured by this stinky mochi as well, would she?! Jin Jiuchi’s fur bristled and he struggled with renewed vigor. "Aowowooo!!" Wait for me, little girl. I’m going to save you!

Jin Jiuchi was utterly unaware that outside, the ship had become an utter wreckage. After freeing itself, the cocoon began to roll back and forth like a restless worm. On the first roll, terrifying cracks formed on the wall. On the second roll, dust and debris started to fall from above as the floor above collapsed, and on the third roll, a hole was formed on the ship!

"Oh no!" Gu Luoxin cried out in utter shock. "Xiao Shen, what should we do?!"

Right now, they had reached the upper deck where the collapsing floors would not crush them to death, while Ariel was left trembling in fear amid the crumbling surroundings. Looking down, they realized that the queen aimed to escape into the ocean!

Shen Nianzu tightened his jaws, anxiety palpable on his usually cold and composed countenance. The queen had struggled so wildly, but he still could not spot any sign of Jin Jiuchi. Had something happened midway? He couldn’t have been dragged into the cocoon, could he?!

They had indeed considered this risk, but considering how Jin Jiuchi was able to devour this disgusting mess, they reckoned that he would be able to defend himself just fine even if he was dragged in. Or better, the queen might even spit him out like it did to Scarred Man. But now, the situation had quickly spiraled out of control. Jin Jiuchi was nowhere to be found, while the hole on the ship was growing larger and larger— the cocoon would soon reach the sea!

Gritting his teeth, Shen Nianzu called out urgently, "Da Shen!!" His voice echoed through the atrium, and a couple of seconds later, a familiar bark responded. The tight string in Shen Nianzu’s heart finally loosened and he added, "We are leaving, so get your ass out of there!"

"Awoowooo~"

"I don’t fucking understand what you’re talking about!"

While the two were bantering back and forth, Gu Luoxin kept a vigilant watch on the surroundings. He shivered and hugged himself when the chilly wind caressed his skin. S–So cold! His teeth chattered and white mist flew out of his mouth with every breath he exhaled. Worse still, he was just wearing a piece of woolen sweater that was half drenched in blood!

Currently, the spacious deck was eerily desolate. All NPCs had either boarded the lifeboats or jumped directly into the sea, while the cursed ones followed suit. Gu Luoxin could no longer see anyone around, and if it wasn’t for Shen Nianzu and Ariel close to him, he would have been terrified to death.

Empty ship ah! Wasn’t it the best time for ghosts to come out?!

Suddenly, another gust of wind roared through, this time harsher, accompanied by familiar cracking sounds. Gu Luoxin’s heart skipped a beat and he sharply raised his head. Sure enough, there Noir was, smoothly gliding through the air!

This was the first time Gu Luoxin had ever seen the man flying, and he couldn’t help but let out an astonished ’wow’. As if sensing something, Noir looked down and their gazes abruptly collided with each other from a far distance. Gu Luoxin waved at him and jumped energetically, "Great God, Great God, over here!!"

"Ah!" Ariel screamed in fright, as she was the closest one to Gu Luoxin. She glanced at Noir fearfully. "Why would you call him here?!" Alas, it was unfortunate that Gu Luoxin could not understand what she was saying.

Noir averted his gaze away, and just as Gu Luoxin thought that the man had not heard him, he saw Noir’s bone wings gracefully unfurled to their full span, readying for a breathtaking stoop. Then with a powerful thrust, his entire person dived down from the sky like a meteor, his wings pressed against each other behind his back. He landed on the deck with his feet elegantly touching the ground, sending a fierce gale roaring in all directions!

Gu Luoxin shielded his face from the rushing wind, while inwardly he was fanboying nonstop, ’Damn it, that movement is straight out of anime! Worthy of being a Great God!’

After retracting his wings, Noir turned his gaze to Gu Luoxin, taking in the young man’s messy state with blood splattered across his body. In his arms, Lucius meow-ed, wanting to be let down, and this time, he finally let the cat go. Without wasting even one second, Lucius immediately dashed towards Gu Luoxin, letting out a series of ’meow meow meow’ as though expressing some kind of unspeakable grievance.

Gu Luoxin was flattered by this intimacy and bent down to scoop the black cat into his arms. He rubbed his chin against Lucius’ furry head, giggling, "Are you worried about me, little ancestor? Are you? Don’t worry, I am fine."

Noir finally took his gaze off in lieu of turning to Shen Nianzu and then down to the cocoon below. He looked around but did not find a certain someone. "Where is he?"

Shen Nianzu gestured downstairs with a somber look. "There."

Just in time, the queen let out another ear-piercing shriek and it finally deigned to spit a white dog out of its cocoon, who rolled on the ground like a sticky ball. After that, the queen relentlessly banged against the wall, causing the entire ship to tremble and shudder!

Shen Nianzu’s sharp gaze caught sight of Jin Jiuchi, and he urgently called out to Gu Luoxin, "Xinxin, the bandages!"

Fortunately, Gu Luoxin had received a conditioned reflex upon hearing Shen Nianzu’s command. Despite having an armful of cat, he still agilely tossed the prop to Shen Nianzu in midair, and Shen Nianzu promptly used it to pull the silly husky up!

BOOM!

In the next second, the ship broke apart just like a building of legos swept by an invisible hand. The once majestic vessel groaned and wailed, its grandeur reduced to a scene of devastation that crashed into the turbulent water below. The cacophony of destruction was deafening, mixed with the NPCs’ despairing screams and cries.

Debris and shrapnel flew in every direction, and amidst this chaotic storm, Shen Nianzu and Jin Jiuchi jumped into the sea, taking Ariel with them in the nick of time!

Gu Luoxin, on the other hand, was dumbfounded when he was suddenly being lifted midair. Without anything below his feet as support, he flailed around in fluster. "G–Great God!" Why did Noir grab him by the collar the last moment before the ship collapsed?!

Noir cast him a faint glance and stated, "You’re holding onto Lucius."

"O–Oh!" Realization dawned on Gu Luoxin when he looked at the black cat in his arms. So it was like that! He was holding onto the Great God’s divine cat, so Great God had no choice but to bring him along! Gratitude filled Gu Luoxin’s heart for the man’s generosity, not realizing how if Noir had time to grab him, then automatically he would also have time to grab Lucius alone and leave him behind, this unnecessary baggage.

But soon, Gu Luoxin was unable to think of that anymore because his attention quickly turned to a giant white cocoon floating amidst the dark sea, standing out like a sore thumb. Horror washed over him, "Oh no, what about Da Shen, Xiao Shen and Ariel?!"

Noir let out a nonchalant hum, "They will live."

However, Gu Luoxin was unwilling to leave his teammates all alone amidst the looming danger. After a second of deliberation, he mustered his courage to speak up, "Great God, how about you drop—"

"Xinxin."

Gu Luoxin’s eyes immediately widened. T–This... if he was not wrong, this seemed to be the first time Noir had ever said his name?! Gu Luoxin was so moved that he was going to cry. "Great God, so you do remember my name!"

"..." Noir was speechless for a split second before he sent out a notice, "I’m going to drop you there."

Gu Luoxin blinked, "W–Where?"

"There." Gu Luoxin followed the man’s finger and his eyes widened in horror when he saw the massive whirlpool that was akin to a black hole. And it was very close to their current location! Colors drained from his face as he gulped anxiously, "Y–Y–Y–You’re going to throw me t-there?!"

For one suspended second, their eyes locked— Noir with his usual indifference and Gu Luoxin with desperate pleading. Then without a warning, the corner of Noir’s lips hooked into a faint smile. With the background of the starless sky behind him, that smile was akin to a piercing beam of light that stabbed right into Gu Luoxin’s heart, making it race like a horde of galloping mad horses.

Alas, before he could recover from the effect of that one devastating smile, Noir ruthlessly let go of his collar, causing him to plunge down straight from the sky!

"AHHH, SAVE MEEE!!!"
