Chapter 187: So Shameless!

Hidden amidst the dark clouds and hazy fog, Noir soared midair above the ship, witnessing the scene of purgatory where NPCs shoved and kicked each other in lieu of being the first to board the lifeboats. One after another, a dozen orange colored boats floated amid the vast and unfathomable expanse of the sea akin to miniscule corks. A handful of NPCs, who were desperate to escape from the terror of the cursed, recklessly plunged into the inky depths, their anguished cries of help swallowed by the unforgiving abyss.

Unbeknownst to them, a colossal whirlpool lurked ominously in the distance. Its gaping maw seemed like a gateway to an otherworldly realm, emitting a sinister and malevolent aura.

Last time, fearing that he would drop Ariel for the second time, he could not get close enough to the whirlpool to inspect what it was like from above. Now it was different as he had plenty of time. He trusted that the trio would be able to keep the mermaid safe.

As Noir received the prompt, a trace of surprise flashed through his eyes and he couldn’t help but cast a look at the ship, as though he could peer through the solid walls to scrutinize the non-human player. However, he soon averted his gaze nonchalantly and replied with a ’yes’ inside his mind. Then, he flew towards the deadly vortex with Lucius in his arms.

All of a sudden, Lucius sniffed the air and began to grow restless. "Meow!"

"Hmm?"

"Meow meow meow!"

Noir raised an intrigued brow, but he shook his head firmly, "No. No matter how much you like him, his survival has nothing to do with us. If he dies, then it’s because he is too weak."

Lucius’ emerald lustrous eyes ablaze with indignation, and it slapped Noir a few times to express its displeasure while its mouth kept complaining. The feline did not brandish his claws at all, simply using his soft fleshy pads to beat the man up, and it actually felt quite comfortable. Unmoved, Noir simply let the cat vent and pressed towards the whirlpool.

Once he arrived at its crest, Noir’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked down into its churning depths, "This..."

Inside the cruise ship

Gu Luoxin staggered backward to lean against the wall behind him, blood oozing out of the wounds across his body and dripping to the ground. He coughed and carelessly wiped the corner of his bloody lips, his breathing uneven. He looked absolutely wrecked, but his kingkong even more so. It had fallen on its knees with one of its muscular arms severed, and its cyan hairpin missing amid the battle.

In spite of that, they had won!

Staring at the fallen creature ahead, Gu Luoxin couldn’t keep the grin off his face. He was so excited that he was trembling all over. With much difficulty, he fumbled for another vial of stamina portion from his prop storage and downed it in a few gulps. In an instant, he could feel strength returning to his body, and his breathing became smoother too. It was as if his entire body was cocooned in a layer of cool and protective blanket, making him feel refreshed all over.

The potions were actually a prop Shen Nianzu had required him to purchase. At first, Gu Luoxin did not understand why he should spend so many points on this — one vial cost 250 points and Shen Nianzu had asked him to buy ten! — but now he marveled on his leader’s terrifying insight. If not for the potions, he wouldn’t have lasted so long in the battle and kept up the appearance of the kingkong!

After taking a short rest, Gu Luoxin straightened up and threw himself on the kingkong’s furry body, hugging it tightly. "Thank you so much," he said with deep emotions. "You’re the best!"

The kingkong let out a soft grunt before it dissipated in the next second.

Gu Luoxin picked up his dagger, ready to end the dying Scarred Man’s life once and for all when the prompt rang in his mind. "Side task?!" He exclaimed, bewildered. "What have Da Shen and Xiao Shen done? I have to get back to them as soon as possible!"

With that in mind, he tightened his grip on the dagger and rushed forward. But as it turned out, someone else was faster than her.

In a blur of motion, Lily appeared by Scarred Man’s side and twisted his neck cruelly with a snap! Gu Luoxin froze, his eyes widening in shock and incredulity when he saw Lily seizing the man’s skill card and props for herself!

"Hey!" He erupted in fury. "He is mine!"

Lily blew him a kiss and flashed a charming smile at him, "Thank you for your hard work, little girl~"

Little... what?!

Gu Luoxin was so stupefied by that cheesy nickname that he couldn’t react in time. Before he could comprehend what was going on, Lily had once again vanished from the spot, leaving him to wallow in his anger as he witnessed his hard-earned spoils of war slip through his fingers.

"Ahhhh!!!" He tore at his hair like mad, so furious and unreconciled that he almost burst into tears. "How... how can she be so shameless!!"

From now on, there would only be blood feuds between them!

Gu Luoxin carried a dejected air with him as he hurried to rejoin his teammates, startling Shen Nianzu who caught sight of him. "What’s wrong? Did that creature get away? It’s okay as long as you’re alive."

Hearing this, Gu Luoxin was unable to hold back his tears anymore. "Wuwuwu... I defeated him! It was me who did it, but..." he struggled to speak amidst the gasps and sobs, venting out his grievance, unwillingness and anger. After all, he was still a freshman, not even twenty years old yet so he was quite childish and immature. When the things he rightfully earned were snatched away, he felt so infuriated and hurt like a chunk of flesh on his body had been torn away!

Shen Nianzu froze, not expecting the youth to wept so miserably. He awkwardly patted his back and tried to comfort him, "It’s okay, don’t cry. You can challenge her in the future after you have grown stronger."

Shen Nianzu’s words stabbed him right on the sore spot, reminding him of how he was so weak and useless that he could only watch Lily escape. Instead of stopping, he cried even harder.

Shen Nianzu was at a loss of what to do. He nudged Jin Jiuchi with his elbow, silently urging him to say a few more words. Jin Jiuchi scratched his head in confusion and said, "There’s no need to waste your tears because they will not turn into pearls?"

Gu Luoxin: "..."

His teammates were so bad at comforting people!

Gu Luoxin cried a day’s worth of tears before stopping. The trio then focused on the side task prompt. There was no need to think twice. They had to deal with the queen one way or another, so it was only logical for them to accept the task. Moreover, there would be twice the rewards! Thinking about the cool and powerful props he received from the hidden task in the Temple of Anubis and the ones he would acquire in this Cycle, Gu Luoxin finally felt a tad better.

Afterwards, Jin Jiuchi finally had the chance to relay what his brother had told him. Of course, he did not explicitly state that he had been swayed by his brother’s tempting offer and couldn’t wait to try it out. He merely suggested that he could try devouring it because he had a stomach of steel!

Gu Luoxin opened his eyes wide in shock. "You can even eat something like that?!"

Jin Jiuchi rubbed his nose proudly. "Of course! I, Jin Jiuchi, have never been a picky eater! I will and am willing to eat anything!"

Shen Nianzu and Gu Luoxin’s faces scrunched up in disgust, presumably recalling the memory of what kind of garbage Jin Jiuchi had eaten in the previous Cycles. Still, Shen Nianzu couldn’t shake off the feeling that Jin Jiuchi was not telling the whole truth and he couldn’t help but question the man in doubt, "How do you know that you can eat it? It’s not like you have tried it before. What if something goes wrong in the process?"

"Tsk tsk tsk," Jin Jiuchi clicked his tongue arrogantly and shook his finger in front of Shen Nianzu’s face, nearly provoking the jade doll to crush that insolent finger to dust. "What do you know, Nian’er? This is instinct!"

Shen Nianzu remained skeptical, but he decided to give Jin Jiuchi the benefit of the doubt for the time being, simply because they truly had no other choice. He took a deep breath and gritted out, "Okay. There’s no time to waste. Let’s begin now."
