Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Return to the Tang Family (Part 4)

Sheng Jianan’s lips curled slightly, somewhat playful: "Did Young Master Zhou forget to take his medicine today?"

Zhou Chengze also realized his words were inappropriate. He didn’t know why he would say such a thing, but he instinctively didn’t want to see Sheng Jianan continue bullying that woman.

Bullying?

How did such a word pop into his head?

Zhou Chengze frowned. Even though he appeared nonchalant, like a carefree playboy, the outside world attributed his current achievements merely to being a rich second-generation. It seemed that without his family’s foundation, Zhou Chengze wouldn’t have his current status.

But those who have interacted with him, either personally or professionally, would absolutely quash that notion. He might not have the myriad of halos like Sheng Jianan, but this guy was definitely not someone to mess with. Beneath the flamboyant façade lay meticulous logical thinking.

And now, he actually thought of the word "bullying".

Zhou Chengze pressed his lips together, deciding not to say more. What do other people’s marital matters have to do with him anyway?

Yet suddenly, Sheng Jianan spoke: "Ah Ze, what tactics did that woman use on you? You’re actually speaking up for her?"

In Sheng Jianan’s words, there was no effort to hide his mockery of Tang Yanqi and his disdain for such scheming. Zhou Chengze frowned again, instinctively replying, "Brother Nan, I just think perhaps you have too much of a preconceived notion."

Reaching out to close the car door that Sheng Jianan had opened, Zhou Chengze rolled down the window and tossed out his last words: "After all, a woman who can smile so radiantly at a rainbow—I don’t think she could be that complicated."

Before Sheng Jianan could say anything more, Zhou Chengze started the car. He was acting too strange tonight; he needed to calm down and think things through.

Some things should never be done, some feelings should never develop, and if they do, they must be cut off in their budding state.

Sheng Jianan stood there, a complex look flickering in his eyes. After a moment of stillness, he turned and walked into the villa.

The house was pitch-black. Sheng Jianan went upstairs with ease, ready to wash up and rest. When his gaze fell on the bed that had belonged to them during their new marriage, Sheng Jianan recalled their wedding night, when he had tossed a divorce agreement in front of Tang Yanqi, and her expression was as calm as water.

If it were someone else, Sheng Jianan might admire this woman’s composure and calmness. But because it was Tang Yanqi, his focus seemed more on her crafty scheming nature.

His brows twitched slightly. Just one weekend, and how did he manage to spend so much attention on that woman?

And often it was without even being fully aware of it.

Perhaps Tang Yanqi was a bit different from other women, but so what?

A woman who exhausts efforts to climb to be the Young Madam Sheng is not worth even a bit of his attention.

Sheng Jianan lay down to sleep, feeling a bit sleepy in his drowsiness, when suddenly an unfamiliar ringtone startled away what little sleepiness he had.

Sheng Jianan frowned; what kind of sound was that? It was a phone ringtone, but not his phone’s ringtone.

Suddenly thinking of something, he got out of bed with a dark expression, took out a very low-end phone from his coat pocket, and saw the screen flashing with the word "Chengzi".

It’s past twelve—calling at such a late hour?

Sheng Jianan naturally hung up the call. He certainly wouldn’t answer the phone for Tang Yanqi, but before he could put it down, the screen lit up again.
