Chapter 28: Chapter 28: An Accidental Kiss (Part 8)

"Wow, Little Tang, you really should have become a detective."

Tang Yanqi smiled; this was just the observational skills she had honed over many years with the Tang Family, observing everyone’s eyes, observing everyone’s micro-expressions, observing everyone’s actions, just so she could survive in that household.

At five-thirty, the door of the Western restaurant was pushed open, a bell hanging at the entrance chimed with a "ding," and Tang Yanqi came out from behind the bar, bowing respectfully, "Hello, welcome..."

The word "welcome" got stuck in her throat after she saw who had entered.

The usually composed Tang Yanqi found her smile frozen.

Sheng Jianan?

Why was he here?

The reason Tang Yanqi chose a small Western restaurant like this was, firstly, because she liked it, and secondly, such restaurants were places where people like the Tang Family would never go—not luxurious enough.

Tang Family members wouldn’t come, so the Sheng Family members were even less likely to come.

But Tang Yanqi never expected that she would actually see Sheng Jianan in such a place.

Evidently, the person across from her was also surprised to see her. Soon, Sheng Jianan’s eyes narrowed, filled with both disgust and doubt.

Tang Yanqi swallowed hard, trying her best to maintain a calm demeanor, "Sir, how many of you are there?"

Just after she asked, a gentle male voice called out, "Jianan, over here."

Sheng Jianan’s gaze turned to the person who spoke, and so did Tang Yanqi’s; it turned out to be the person she and the boss had been discussing a moment ago.

Tang Yanqi took a deep breath; there were only her and Xiao Mei as servers here. The owner would help when things got busy, and besides them, there were a pastry chef, a bartender, and a chef.

Xiao Mei was still in the restroom, and as it was not very busy, Tang Yanqi took a deep breath and walked over. Seeing Sheng Jianan was a shock, but she always had good composure and by now was calm on the surface.

"Would you like to order?"

With a smile, she placed a menu in front of Sheng Jianan while she asked.

Yun Fan nodded, "One set A meal, steak cooked medium-well, with creamy soup."

"Alright."

Tang Yanqi noted it down while waiting for Sheng Jianan to speak, but until she finished writing the last word, Sheng Jianan said nothing.

With no other option, Tang Yanqi had to proceed, "And you, sir?"

"B meal."

"Alright, how would you like your steak cooked?"

"Medium."

"Alright, and what soup would you like?"

"Borscht."

"Alright, please wait a moment."

After tidying up the menu and turning away, Tang Yanqi felt a sense of relief. She dared to bet that Sheng Jianan must have done it on purpose just now, answering question by question deliberately. Otherwise, by his nature, he should have been like the other gentleman, saying everything at once—because that would be the most efficient and hassle-free.

Tang Yanqi went to the kitchen to deliver the order, and after she was completely out of Sheng Jianan’s sight, he took a light sip of the water in front of him, "Why did you think of coming to a place like this?"

His tone openly scornful. Seriously, he was Sheng Jianan; the places he usually visited were extremely upscale. What was this place?

A street stall?

"The food here is good, every bit as good as any place you’ve eaten at. I came here two years ago, and I happened to be nearby today, so I thought I’d stop by and see. Didn’t expect it to still be open."
