Chapter 216: The Betrothal Gifts

The Lopez family estate was an elegant, sprawling property with a beautifully maintained garden and a long driveway lined with blooming flowers. As Samuel pulled the car to a stop in front of the grand entrance, Zinnia glanced at him, her expression a mix of nervousness and excitement.

"They’re probably waiting for us now," she said softly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Samuel gave her a reassuring look. "We’ll be just fine," he said simply, his voice steady and calm.

As they stepped out of the car, the front door opened, revealing Ricardo Lopez in a neatly tailored suit and Elena Lopez in an elegant dress, their smiles warm and inviting. Just as Zinnia and Samuel were about to approach, another car pulled up behind them, its sleek black frame catching the sunlight.

Samuel turned, his eyebrows furrowing in surprise as his father stepped out of the car with a confident stride. Steven Lucas was dressed impeccably in a dark suit, holding an air of authority that immediately commanded attention.

"Father?" Samuel said, his tone laced with both surprise and confusion.

Steven walked toward him, a faint smile on his face. "Son," he said, clasping Samuel’s shoulder firmly. "It’s good that I came right on time."

Samuel blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his father’s uncharacteristic punctuality. "You didn’t mention you’d be joining us."

"I thought it would be best to come personally," Steven replied, his tone casual but firm. "After all, this is an important day for both families."

Zinnia looked between the two men, her curiosity evident, but she didn’t press further. Ricardo and Elena stepped forward to greet them, their expressions warm and welcoming.

"Steven, it’s wonderful to see you," Ricardo said, shaking Steven’s hand firmly. "And Samuel, Zinnia, welcome back. We’ve been waiting for you."

Elena stepped closer, her smile kind as she addressed Steven. "It’s been a while, Steven. I hope the journey wasn’t too tiring."

Steven inclined his head slightly. "Not at all, Elena. It’s good to see you both. And congratulations are in order, I believe." He glanced at Zinnia and Samuel, his eyes briefly softening.

As the group exchanged pleasantries, Steven gestured toward his car. Two assistants stepped out, each carrying ornate, carefully wrapped packages. The gifts were luxurious yet thoughtful—a symbol of the Lucas family’s respect and commitment to Zinnia and her family.

"I’ve brought some gifts to mark this occasion," Steven announced, his voice steady. "A small token of gratitude and goodwill from our family to yours."

The assistants presented the gifts one by one. Among them was a finely crafted jewelry set made of diamonds and emeralds, a symbol of enduring love and commitment. There was also a collection of high-quality wine from an exclusive vineyard, a handcrafted wooden chest filled with rare spices and teas, and an antique porcelain tea set that had been in the Lucas family for generations.

Elena’s eyes widened slightly as she admired the thoughtfulness of the gifts. "Steven, these are exquisite. You didn’t have to go to such lengths."

"It’s only fitting," Steven replied smoothly. "We’re uniting two families today, and I wanted to make sure my son’s intentions were clear." He turned to Zinnia, his tone softening. "Zinnia, you are always welcome in the Lucas family. We’re honored to have you."

Zinnia smiled, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. "Thank you, Mr. Lucas. This means a lot to me."

After the gifts were admired and thanked for, Ricardo gestured toward the door. "Come, let’s move inside. We’ve prepared something special for today."

As they entered the Lopez residence, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The interior of the house was tastefully decorated, with floral arrangements and a table laden with refreshments. Elena led the way, ensuring everyone felt comfortable.

Steven took a moment to pull Samuel aside as the others settled in. "You’ve done well, son," he said in a low voice. "Zinnia’s family seems pleased. Keep it that way."

Samuel nodded, his expression serious. "I will, Father."

As they rejoined the group, Elena brought out a tray of tea, her smile never wavering. "We’re so glad to have both families together today. It’s a moment we’ve all been looking forward to."

"It’s an honor to be here," Steven said, his voice carrying a rare warmth as he looked around the Lopez family’s living room. His eyes settled on Samuel and Zinnia, who were seated side by side on the cream-colored sofa. Zinnia’s hand rested lightly on her lap, her fingers occasionally brushing against Samuel’s as if seeking reassurance.

Steven’s gaze softened slightly, though his authoritative tone remained. "Today marks the beginning of something wonderful for both of you," he said. "I hope it will finally lead to marriage this time."

Samuel’s posture stiffened ever so slightly at his father’s words, and he let out a quiet sigh. "Father..." he began, his tone edged with mild exasperation.

But Steven raised a hand, cutting him off gently but firmly. "No, Samuel, let me finish. This isn’t just about fulfilling expectations. It’s about building something meaningful together. Zinnia," he turned his attention to her, "you’ve been patient with my son, more than I could have ever expected. It’s time he proves himself worthy of you."

Zinnia glanced at Samuel, her cheeks flushed with a mix of shyness and gratitude. "Mr. Lucas, I—"

"Dad," he corrected, a faint smile on his lips. "Call me Dad."

She nodded, her voice soft. "Dad, I appreciate your words, but Samuel has already proven himself to me in many ways. I wouldn’t have said yes otherwise."

Steven inclined his head. "Fair enough. But as someone who’s seen more of life, let me give you both a piece of advice. Don’t wait too long. Life is unpredictable, and moments like these are precious. Seize them."

The conversation naturally shifted to wedding plans, with Ricardo leaning forward slightly in his chair, his expression thoughtful. "Well, if we’re talking about seizing moments, perhaps we should discuss the wedding date."
