Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Inner Disciple Selection Ceremony! (3)
"Attention, everyone!"
A voice boomed across the arena, amplified by spiritual energy.
"The Inner Disciple Selection Ceremony will begin in a few minutes. All participants, please make your way into the arena ground immediately!"
The announcement came from a Minor Elder standing at the front of the massive crowd.
Dozens of other Minor Elders flanked the edges of the arena, carefully overseeing the participants.
They checked names against their lists, confirmed the arrival of every registered disciple, and maintained strict order throughout the grounds.
None of them uttered a word beyond what was necessary, their expressions cold and authoritative.
Reon and Xu Yang stepped forward, giving their names to one of the Minor Elders.
After verifying their registration, they squeezed through the crushing tide of disciples and made their way to the designated area on the arena floor.
Moments later, after all disciples had gathered, the same Minor Elder raised his voice again.
"Very well. It appears everyone is present."
He scanned the vast crowd.
"As you can all see for yourselves, the number of participants this year has reached nearly four times the usual amount. This is unprecedented in the history of the Supreme Dao Sect’s Inner Disciple Selection Ceremony."
A wave of murmurs swept through the crowd.
He continued.
"This surge in numbers also reflects a truth—this generation possesses greater strength and potential than ever before. However, because of that, the usual entry requirements were simply too lenient to evaluate you all fairly."
The Minor Elder’s eyes glinted sharply.
"By order of the higher-ups, the rules of this year’s exam have been dramatically altered. In simpler terms—the difficulty has been significantly increased."
Gasps rippled across the field. Tension filled the air like storm clouds gathering before a thunderclap.
"W-What?! They’ve increased the difficulty?!"
"With over two thousand disciples and only a hundred available slots, how are average cultivators like us supposed to compete?!"
"Please, increase the number of available seats!"
"Yes! Increase the seats!"
"Increase the seats!"
Voices rose in chaotic protest as panic spread through the disciples. The noise built like a crashing wave.
Then—
"SILENCE."
The Minor Elder’s voice boomed like a thunderclap, followed by a crushing wave of spiritual pressure.
"Ahh!"
"I-I can’t breathe...!"
Weaker disciples dropped to their knees, gasping under the weight of his Spiritual Pressure.
The Minor Elder looked over them coldly.
"There will be no increase in seats. One hundred Inner Disciple slots has always been the standard—and it shall remain so."
He paused.
"Only the best of the best shall ascend to the Inner Sect. If you cannot compete... then you were never meant to rise."
A heavy silence followed, broken only by a few confident voices from the front.
"Haha... sounds exciting. I was hoping for a challenge," said Yang Lie, standing with arms crossed and an arrogant grin on his face.
"Indeed, Brother Lie," Zi Chen chimed in with a smirk. "Let’s show them what real sword talent looks like."
"I’m glad the difficulty was raised," Yi Ran added with calm certainty. "A true test of strength is what I need..."
’After all... I want to test the strength I’ve gained after this month of hard work—and defeat him with my own hands. Then, maybe...’
She glanced over her shoulder, searching the crowd for a familiar figure—but he was nowhere to be seen amidst the overwhelming throng.
From the very back, Reon looked ahead at the confident group of main characters, their excitement barely contained.
’Haha... this competition might be fun for them, but it’s the average disciples who’ll suffer the most.’
’Well, who cares? I just need to make it into the top twenty to get selected for Sky Sword Peak.’
The Minor Elder raised his voice once more, drawing the attention of every disciple in the arena.
"In previous years, the Inner Disciple Selection Ceremony consisted of two rounds—first, gathering ten Peak-Stage Demonic Beast Primal Cores from the Mystic Evergreen Forest, and second, a dueling stage."
He paused, letting the crowd settle before continuing.
"But this year, due to the overwhelming number of participants and the elevated standards of this generation—the ceremony will now comprise three rounds."
The murmurs in the crowd deepened, a wave of unease spreading.
The Minor Elder continued, voice calm and authoritative.
"I will now explain the updated rules of this year’s Inner Disciple Selection Ceremony."
"The First Round will take place in a specially constructed Secret Realm, into which you will all be transferred shortly."
"In that realm, there are five hundred puppets, each personally crafted by the genius puppet master—Elder Shi Qi, also known as the Silent String Binder of the Thousand Strings Pavilion."
As he spoke, the Elder lifted his hand and gestured toward a solitary figure seated in the Grand Chair above.
The disciples followed his gaze to see a man wrapped in layers of white spiritual paper, covering his face and hands entirely.
He sat motionless—eerily calm—watching from above with a presence as silent as death.
Whispers quickly spread among the disciples.
"So... that’s the Silent String Binder?"
"The one-man army of the Thousand Strings Pavilion... I can’t believe I’m seeing him in person!"
"He’s my idol! I’ve always dreamed of joining the Pavilion just to become his disciple."
"Hah... dream on. As if someone like us could ever stand before him."
Hearing the excitement, Elder Shi Qi gave a subtle nod and raised a hand in acknowledgment, pride flickering through his hidden eyes.
The Minor Elder resumed speaking.
"Each of these puppets possesses combat power equivalent to a Mid-Stage Foundation Realm cultivator."
"Some are even stronger, matching the High or Peak-Stage Foundation Realm, while three possess strength at the Low-Stage Golden Core Realm."
"Those are reserved for participants seeking greater rewards or aiming for a spot among the top ranks."
He paused to let the weight of his words sink in.
"Your objective in this round is simple: defeat at least one puppet and retrieve the Purple Crystal embedded in its chest."
"Only those who return with a Purple Crystal will qualify for the second round."
"Fail, and you will be eliminated immediately from the selection process."
"WHAT?!"
A collective shout erupted from the arena floor.
