Chapter 1680: Who is He?
Chapter 1680: Chapter 1680: Who is He?
The Bagua Furnace rubbed Yue’s head again, then chuckled and said,
"Yue’er, there are still plenty of delicious fruits here. You used to love eating them. How about big brother takes you to have a look?"
"Really?"
The gluttonous Yue was instantly drawn in. This little girl never refused anything edible!
The two little ones then headed toward the mountain forest in the back. Gou Ye, watching their steps, wanted to follow, but with a single glare from the Bagua Furnace, it didn’t dare move a muscle.
"Hmph, fine, I won’t go. Gou Ye has been staying in this cave for so long already; staying a few more days isn’t a problem."
Gou Ye lay on the ground, resting its chin on its paws. "When the time comes to follow that person out, I’ll have my moment to shine too!"
...
Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai was staring at the narrow bridge above the black pool in front of him, his legs trembling uncontrollably!
It was as if this place were a realm of certain death, and stepping onto the bridgehead would mean no chance of survival!
Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t understand why he was feeling this way. No matter what dire situations he’d faced before, he’d never felt such fear!
Even back in the day, when he was still a nobody being chased by the juggernaut that was the Ancient Clan, he hadn’t felt the slightest worry.
Suddenly, he realized something was off!
Was this his Dao Heart wavering?
"Snap out of it!"
Jiang Xiaobai roared furiously in his mind, while activating the power of his Purple Heaven Primordial Spirit to stabilize his inner thoughts!
Though his Dao Heart was now intact, the groundless sense of fear instead grew denser, as if some terrifying creature was lurking behind him, urging him forward.
The spine-chilling sensation intensified. He could no longer resist, and his mind was left with only one impulse—rush forward, escape!
Though he didn’t know the exact cause, Jiang Xiaobai could barely keep control over himself. However, courage failed him—he truly didn’t dare to look back!
"What if... I just take a quick glance?"
Jiang Xiaobai pondered to himself. With gritted teeth, he suddenly turned his head. Whatever was behind him, he’d slice it with his sword if necessary!
But as he turned, there was nothing behind him but endless, thick fog. The scene was even darker and gloomier than an apocalyptic wasteland.
Looking carefully, he noticed the fog was slowly closing in on him. If he hesitated for another ten or so minutes, he would likely be swallowed by it.
What consequences that might bring, Jiang Xiaobai dared not imagine!
"This place is seriously messed up. What kind of trial messes with someone’s mind like this?"
Jiang Xiaobai grumbled to himself. "Messing with my mindset... Could this be a test of willpower?"
"Forget it. No matter what, it seems like the only way forward is ahead."
At this point, Jiang Xiaobai had no choice but to forge ahead. He wasn’t keen on getting engulfed by that fog—it wasn’t worth the risk.
But just as he prepared to step onto the bridgehead, the fear within him surged to its peak, like an irresistible vortex pulling him to the edge of collapse!
Steadying his mind with great effort, Jiang Xiaobai forced himself to stop overthinking and took a resolute step forward!
Boom!
The moment his right foot touched the bridgehead, his mind felt as though it had been struck by crashing waves. A cacophony of explosions echoed in his head, leaving him frozen in place like a statue.
If anyone were watching from the side, they would see an eerily bizarre scene—Jiang Xiaobai standing motionless, as if he had turned into a sculpture.
Thankfully, this strange phenomenon didn’t last long. Jiang Xiaobai quickly regained consciousness and stared at the bridge before him, his eyes filled with solemnity.
The sudden mental crash he’d experienced was highly unsettling.
But now that he had stepped onto the bridge, there was no turning back. Jiang Xiaobai moved forward again. As expected, just as he had speculated, each additional step sent another wave of reverberations through his mind.
This time, however, it came with intense pain!
Still, the sensation lasted only a fleeting moment.
"How strange. Primordial Spirit, do you sense anything?" Jiang Xiaobai asked his Purple Heaven Primordial Spirit in his heart.
"There’s a force attacking your Primordial Spirit. It’s no big deal. With the strength of your spirit right now, there’s nothing to worry about."
The Purple Heaven Primordial Spirit opened its eyes and replied calmly, "This is barely anything—merely a trick targeting the Primordial Spirit. Keep moving forward."
Jiang Xiaobai nodded. Over the years of cultivation, he’d rarely encountered beings whose Primordial Spirits exceeded the strength of his own.
Fortunately, as he continued onward, though the attacks on his Primordial Spirit persisted, they were no longer sufficient to impede his steps. And there was no chance of him falling off this narrow, precarious bridge.
Soon, Jiang Xiaobai reached the middle of the bridge. Turning to look back, he was startled to discover that the wooden bridge behind him had disappeared into nothingness!
"Does this mean I’m not allowed to go back?"
Jiang Xiaobai’s mouth twitched slightly. "So, I’m being forced to move forward? But what’s ahead? Just what kind of trial is this?"
He couldn’t comprehend the situation, but he had no choice but to press onward. However, the path ahead grew increasingly difficult.
With each step, the pressure on his Primordial Spirit multiplied exponentially, the resistance becoming greater and greater. His body started to waver.
But that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was the bizarre images beginning to emerge in Jiang Xiaobai’s mind.
In one scene, a white-haired man dressed in a black sword robe adorned with mystical patterns was wielding a long sword and battling some unknown foe.
In another, the same black-robed, white-haired man slashed his sword into the void. In that instant, the heavens and earth seemed to shatter, the world was restored to tranquility, and even the Dao itself seemed as though it could be split apart by that one stroke!
Jiang Xiaobai’s heart trembled in shock.
Damn it, this person is insanely powerful!
Who could they be?
"Could this be the mastermind orchestrating everything behind the scenes?"
Jiang Xiaobai stared blankly at the images in his mind, unable to imagine what kind of end he would face if he ever encountered this terrifying figure.
And yet, he didn’t recall ever hearing of such a person in the desolate records of the primordial era.
Who could this possibly be?
In his confusion, Jiang Xiaobai suddenly felt his body sway uncontrollably, falling toward one side.
Startled awake, he realized he was plunging headfirst toward the pitch-black surface of the pool below. His heart sank.
It’s over. Big trouble!
Splash. Water splattered as ripples spread across the pool.
Jiang Xiaobai’s figure vanished from the bridge, but at that moment, a shadowy figure appeared, looking down at the inky-black water surface.
The water’s surface reflected a vague image of the figure’s face, its angular features somewhat resembling Jiang Xiaobai’s.
After a while, the shadow smiled faintly, dissolving into mist and disappearing.
When Jiang Xiaobai regained consciousness, he found himself before a black pyramid. Somehow, Yuanhong had appeared beside him, trembling violently as it stared fixatedly at the pyramid.
It was as if something within the pyramid filled it with dread!
Rubbing his aching head, Jiang Xiaobai sat up and stared forward in confusion. Surrounding him was still the impenetrable fog, and there was only one road ahead.
"What is this ridiculous trial..."
Jiang Xiaobai’s mouth twitched in frustration. He couldn’t understand why the mysterious figure had devised such a trial. Was the entire purpose to test his courage?
At that moment, the black pyramid suddenly began to emit a radiant glow.
