Wedding Night: I Am Forced To Marry A Dragon Girl
Chapter 1679: Almost Let It Slip!

Chapter 1679: Chapter 1679: Almost Let It Slip!

Ten minutes later, on a small trail through lush green mountains, Jiang Xiaobai covered his forehead, looking utterly speechless at the little rascal beside him.

"Alright, alright, I was seriously listening this time! That monkey was subdued by Lao Jun, right?"

"So what? Look at your attitude just now... Ha, I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you!"

The little rascal gritted his teeth. "You’re still that..."

Before he could finish, the spirit of the Bagua Furnace suddenly covered his own mouth!

Oh crap, I almost spilled the beans!

Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai slowly came to his senses, looking at the Bagua Furnace with confusion. "What were you saying? I’m still what?"

"Nothing! You’re still as unreliable as ever!"

With a haughty tilt of his head, the Bagua Furnace grabbed Yue’s arm and started walking ahead. Yue, though baffled by the conversation, seemed to harbor some vague memory of the Bagua Furnace—after all, the two were apparently good friends.

Jiang Xiaobai followed behind, squinting his eyes suspiciously, feeling like this whole situation was fundamentally off somehow.

Just as he was preparing to catch up and press further, a cave appeared ahead of them, exuding an eerie aura.

At that exact moment, a giant dog’s head poked out of the entrance. As soon as it saw Jiang Xiaobai, the dog’s eyes gleamed with an impossibly radiant golden light!

The big dog was so overwhelmed with excitement it almost fell to its knees!

He... He had seen the real deal!

"Ahem, Gou Ye, what are you standing there stunned for? Hurry up and greet the guest!"

The Bagua Furnace coughed and shouted.

Jiang Xiaobai was utterly dumbfounded. Although he’d already seen Yang Jian’s spectral image and had somewhat adjusted to the surreal sense of it all, he still couldn’t fathom that Gou Ye—a dog revered as the mighty Howling Celestial Dog—looked like this scrawny hunting hound before him.

This is so not intimidating!

"What nonsense are you spewing? Greet the guest? Do you take Gou Ye for some courtesan from that Red Dust Pavilion?"

Gou Ye barked in anger.

"What? A couple remarks and you’re already upset?"

Rolling up its sleeves, the Bagua Furnace looked ready to brawl with Gou Ye when Jiang Xiaobai hurriedly stepped in to stop them.

"I don’t have time to care about your squabbling! I need to get the item and leave, pronto."

On the way here, Jiang Xiaobai had already learned the whereabouts of the black crystal through the Bagua Furnace, and roughly understood that he and Gou Ye were considered the highest authority figures within this hidden realm.

It seemed that a legendary figure had tasked the two of them to safeguard and prepare contingencies here long ago.

However, when it came to identifying the great figure’s true identity, the Bagua Furnace refused to utter a single word. Jiang Xiaobai even suspected that this mysterious powerhouse could be someone as esteemed as Lao Jun himself, but the Bagua Furnace firmly denied it.

This only left Jiang Xiaobai even more perplexed.

Within the boundless wilderness of Honghuang, were there any key figures he didn’t already know? Those who could be called "great figures" surely had to be one of a select handful, right?

In the end, Jiang Xiaobai could only assume the person was someone on par with the likes of the Tongtian Cult Leader. Shaking off these thoughts, he stepped forward, ready to enter the cave and retrieve the black crystal.

But Gou Ye suddenly blocked his path.

"Hold on... Kid... Ahem, kid!"

Gou Ye cleared his throat and said, "It’s true that the item was left behind for someone destined to find it, but that mysterious powerhouse set a test in place back then. If the test is failed, it proves that the chosen one’s current abilities are insufficient and this isn’t the right time to take the crystal. So, um... do you get what I’m saying?"

Jiang Xiaobai stared at Gou Ye in confusion. "Did you choke on something? Why are you speaking so haltingly, breaking it up like that?"

"I’m just... just trying not to..." Gou Ye instinctively tried to make excuses, but the Bagua Furnace rushed up and slapped him to the ground.

With an innocent and naïve smile, the Bagua Furnace chimed, "Heh, don’t mind this dumb dog’s rambling. The test is just up ahead, but only you can take it, okay?"

"Wait, let him finish what he was going to say!" Jiang Xiaobai raised an eyebrow.

The Bagua Furnace had no intention of clarifying further, instead pushing Jiang Xiaobai towards a narrow path ahead.

"Go, go, go! Pass the trial quickly, grab the item, and let this esteemed furnace leave this hellhole with you. I’m practically suffocating here!"

"But I..."

Before Jiang Xiaobai could finish speaking, he was pushed forward, and suddenly the surrounding scenery warped drastically. All that remained before him was a single-log bridge.

On either side of the bridge were pitch-black pools of water whose depths were impossible to discern, emanating an ominously terrifying vibe!

Despite his cultivation reaching such levels, Jiang Xiaobai found himself genuinely afraid at the sight of these pools. In that instant, the fear of the unknown gripped his heart fiercely!

It felt as though some ancient abyssal beasts lurked beneath the surface, ready to devour him at a moment’s notice!

Gulp!

Involuntarily, Jiang Xiaobai swallowed hard. His legs began to tremble uncontrollably, as though he were just an ordinary mortal without the slightest bit of spiritual power.

"What is this place, really?"

...

Back at the cave entrance, Gou Ye and the Bagua Furnace both visibly relaxed as they watched Jiang Xiaobai get sucked into the trial.

Smack!

The Bagua Furnace, now recovered, raised its hand and struck Gou Ye across the head again.

"You hit me again!"

Gou Ye stood back up, barking indignantly.

The Bagua Furnace didn’t even spare him a glance, crossing its arms with a snort. "You should feel lucky I managed to intervene in time! If you had let something slip, there’d have been big trouble!"

"I just got a little overexcited! Back then, who didn’t want to meet that person? I had to beg my True Lord for centuries just to get one opportunity, otherwise, I’d be stuck in that Fengshen roster right now!"

Gou Ye muttered, "Besides, we’re already at this point—what’s the harm in saying a little more?"

"You don’t get it."

The Bagua Furnace sighed helplessly.

That’s why he was the spirit of a primordial treasure, while Gou Ye was merely an assistant to the True Lord.

Their standings were worlds apart!

Their perspectives existed on entirely different levels!

How could they even compare?

"Just follow the original plan properly. When the moment comes, go enjoy some freedom and fun. But if you let something slip, even your True Lord won’t be able to save you."

The Bagua Furnace muttered to itself, "Why did they assign you here back then anyway? Letting that rabbit stay instead of you would’ve been better."

"Hah, that rabbit is just as useless as me, probably worse!" Gou Ye retorted, then turned to look at Yue.

The girl was staring at Gou Ye with curiosity, her wide eyes fixed on him.

"That girl... Is she..." Gou Ye hesitated, as if attempting to see through her identity.

"Yep, she’s exactly who you’re thinking of."

"What the... Seriously? Wasn’t it said she was already dead?"

"I... I swear I’ll find something to seal your dog muzzle shut! If you can’t speak properly, just shut up!"

The Bagua Furnace was beyond furious. It had gone to such lengths to send Jiang Xiaobai off, and if Gou Ye accidentally spilled a few more secrets, everything would go up in smoke!

There was no way Gou Ye could shoulder that level of responsibility!

Realizing he had almost made yet another mistake, Gou Ye quickly curled up on the ground, trembling slightly and not daring to utter another word.

Although still curious, Yue wasn’t as sharp as Jiang Xiaobai. Tilting her head, she thought for a moment but couldn’t figure it out, so she decided to ignore the weirdness altogether and started tugging at the Bagua Furnace’s hand.

"Big brother, what’s Daddy doing?"

With a doting smile, the Bagua Furnace patted Yue’s head gently. "He’s taking care of something very important, something super important. Be a good girl, Yue, we can’t disturb him."

"Daddy is really amazing!"

Yue squinted happily, her face glowing with joy.

Her daddy was a hero for the whole world!
