Way of Overlord
Chapter 257: Choosing A Master

Chapter 257: Choosing A Master

The aroma of roasting meats and aromatic spices wafted through the air, tantalizing the senses.

Aeryon go all out. It is not because the guest tonight is someone that he acknowledged very highly. But this is his attitude.

He is announcing to the people that would come to him " I wanted the warriors of the world to come to me and I would not treat you badly. Who would give you more honour than me? Who could give you such riches other than me?"

It is a show

And what is he showing and what does he intends to gain? He wanted to gain awe, fame

The large tent, the exquisite design, the food and drinks is to impress, to intimidate.

This is his tribe. A strong tribe. Would you rather join a weak tribe or a strong tribe?

From now on, Aeryon also decided to use this tent tow welcome new tribes or new clans

Low wooden tables and plush cushions surrounded the central hearth, offering a comfortable and communal seating arrangement for the guests.

The open-air design allowed for a connection with the surrounding landscape. The tent was strategically positioned to capture the breath-taking views of the Great Steppe, providing a sense of unity with nature.

The expansive sky above served as a celestial canopy, showcasing the stars as the evening unfolded.

Aeryon saw it before and it is really beautiful

Decorations within the tent were meaningful, with tapestries and banners displaying symbols of the tribe’s identity and achievements.

Aeryon also sent someone to make a tapestry of him defeating the Xewa and Ghar tribes and the scene where the tribes and clans kneel in front of him

Torches and strategically placed oil lamps illuminated the tent as the daylight waned, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.

Tonight, he has a guest.

Aeryon waited for this guest in front of the tent

And then when the appointed time come, there was someone that is walking toward the banquet area. Aeryon smiles and rush toward the guest

This guest is none other than Burchu. Burchu is a young man. Aeryon could see it form the boyish appearance of this person.

But there is an aura around him. There is a spear behind his back. And that is where he sense the aura.

When he walks, Burchu unconsciously emits this aura. Aeryon nodded and feel satisfied in his heart.

Burchu on the other hand was shocked that he is welcomed so warmly by the chief of the Brolgadhr tribe.

even before he started his journey toward the Brolgadhr tribe, he had learned that the chief of this tribe is very young.

Like attract like. Burchu is an ambitious person.

He is also young.

Hearing that there is a great hero of the Steppe that is rising and young as he is, he could not help but also wanting to meet this chief

And then when he heard more and more of what this young person is doing, conquering and subjugating the tribes around him in breakneck speed, Burchu could see what this young chief wanted to do.

Unifying the Southern Steppe.

And then he desire to serve under such a person. Because he want to become famous. But it is more that he wanted the spearman ship of his ancestors become famous.

He believe that the spearmanship of his ancestors would be able to show its prowess if he is allowed to show it to the world.

He wanted to be a world-famous warrior. And he wanted to serve a great leader because that is the shortcut to gain the fame he want.

In Yan, they always despise ambition

Or at least pretend to despise ambition.

Yet, those who rebels, those who waited in the dark, those who schemed from behind, those who waited on the chaos, aren’t all of these ambitious men that wanted to make their mark in history?

There is those who would shout to the sky, "Are kings and nobles given their high status by birth?"

Those who rebels, isn’t this an ambition in his heart?

There is a story about a bird who wont sing. Three warlords were asked, what will they do if the cuckoo bird wont sing?

One of them say "Kill it!"

Another said, "I will make it want to sing"

And another one said "I will wait"

Each of the answer shows the character of these three warlords. It is akin to a Zen parable.

Those who answered the question with "Kill" shows that this is a fierce and cruel man. Such person is decisive and a force to be reckoned with.

An uncompromising person and would do anything

The one who answer with Make it sing, his demeanour and personality shows how cunning and cruel.

Making it sing means forcing it. And then the one who said "Wait for the bird to sing"

This warlord is the most diplomatic in his words and patient. There is also a principle of martial arts in this.

Whichever words resonated the most with you depends on where you are in your development

The beginner usually wants to "kill it", the intermediate person wants to "force it" but an expert is willing to "wait for it."

This parable also shows something else. Ambition.

There is to many people like this in the world

They pretend not to be ambitious but in their heart, the ambition is burning brightly.

On the Steppe, it is a very different culture.

Fame is something that any warriors would boldly proclaim.

After all, a man should have bold ambition.

The Skyfather Above is looking and the Earth Mother blesses all living beings, so one should make a mark in life and be proud in death!

And Burchu is like that. He wanted to make a mark in his short life in this world and be proud in death

The definition of what makes someone proud differs by the era and cultures and regions

Yan people for example would be proud if their sons could be official in the court serving the Emperor.

The Roma would be proud if they could become a Senator.

Yindu has their own definition and meaning of what pride is.

And for the people of the Great Steppe, being a great warrior is the pride in their heart. Killing is not as frowned upon as it is in Aeryon other world.

You could only blame yourself for being weak.

It is cruel. It is terrifying. But that is the world. This is the era. And it is this darkness that drive men forward.

However, this philosophies and great meaning of life and death is not something that Burchu thinks about.

He is a smart person.

But he is also a simple person.

He simply wanted to be a great warrior and he lives in this world, in this era and of course he would be shaped by the culture of his people, shaped by the world he lives in and shape by the era that he is in.

It is nothing wrong to kill.

Because this is that kind of era.

Those who kill a person is just a murderer.

Those who kill ten person is a warrior.

Those who kill a thousand person is a great warrior. And those who kill countless people, sacked cities and kill millions of people are like deities

Hate it, dread it, it does not change the eternal truth of existence.

Those with the bigger fist, dictates the rule. And in the Steppe, this is the reason why warriors are very much honoured.

Chief entertain warriors because warriors are the backbone of their tribe strength. Chief chooses the warriors they like and the warriors they believe that are strong.

But warriors also chooses their chief.

Low level warriors could not choose their chief.

But those with great power and great talent, they choose their own chief. A chief that is aligned with their heart and aspiration would be the chief they choose.

Burchu once sleep in a cave and met a few fellow warriors that has the same intention as him, to serve great chief in the Steppe and make a name for themselves.

There, one of the warriors discuss the great chief of the Great Steppe.

As they are the people of the Southern Great Steppe, of course they would discuss the chief of the Southern Great Steppe.

The name that is mentioned the most is Aeryon the Son of Rakarys, the chief of the Brolgadhr tribe and Tsendeama Son of Uda, the Chief of the Esbizuk tribe.

Some of them would cast their votes and support on Dama. It is said Dama fought like a monster and kills all the Yan people

Many warriors that become a great warrior is the product of Yan aggression towards them. The Yan remember their humiliation of fighting against the " barbarians of the Steppe" and being defeated by the Steppe people

When they are strong they even listed crimes of the foreigners against the people of the Great Steppe

Yet, they forgot to list their own crimes.

To the Great Steppe people, Yan people is incapable of reflecting in their own mistake and could only denigrate people that are different from them

Hence, they would make them reflect on themselves
