Chapter 1637: Section 1638: Long-Awaited Guest

Not long after Sanders’ voice fell, the manor welcomed a long-absent guest.

The master of the House of Lilith, Kanter, who is like the night itself.

When everyone saw Kanter, confusion flickered in their eyes. Even Sanders looked at him strangely.

The reason was that Kanter’s current appearance was somewhat bizarre; his curly beard was disheveled, the pointed tip of his blue-black embroidered orchid cone-shaped wizard hat was collapsed, and his matching wizard robe was full of scratches; most importantly, on each of his long white eyebrows that drooped to his chest, hung a cat.

One was the black cat Luna, whom Angel was very familiar with, gripping the eyebrow desperately.

The other cat was also black, but its blackness was like a blazing black flame, filled with an aggressive aura. It hung on the other eyebrow, swinging with Kanter’s movements as if on a swing.

"Kanter, you..." Sanders frowned, seemingly puzzled by Kanter’s current situation.

Greya laughed loudly without any courtesy beside him, while Sharley and Asaz, although they could hardly contain their mirth, did not dare to laugh out loud in the presence of a True Knowledge Wizard.

Kanter glanced at Greya with annoyance, "What’s so funny."

Then, Kanter pinched the back of both cats’ necks: "What, you’re not leaving yet?"

With a flick from Kanter, both black cats were thrown to the ground at the same time. As soon as Luna landed, she looked around with her head, and upon seeing Angel, a glint crossed her vertically slit pupils; she dashed agilely towards Angel and hid behind his feet without even letting her tail show.

The other cat, unlike Luna, did not look panicked upon landing but instead moved elegantly in a circle around the area as if a king were surveying his territory, eventually sitting on top of the high wall. Although the cat had not approached Angel, ever since its arrival at the manor, in the presence of everyone, it mostly focused its gaze on Angel. It was uncertain whether this was due to Luna’s relationship or Angel himself.

Angel looked at the black cat, as if he had realized something.

At this moment, after Kanter sorted out his messy attire, he replied to Sanders with a sulky face: "There was a small problem."

"A small problem?" Sanders’s gaze moved away from Kanter and eventually settled on the black cat perched on the wall, "Because of her?"

Kanter nodded with irritation, then looked at the black cat: "You’ve not had enough of being a cat, change back now."

The black cat remained unmoved.

Kanter, annoyed, directly exerted his authority on the black cat, causing it to shiver. It seemed to want to resist, but under the overwhelming pressure of absolute power, it eventually turned into a puff of smoke.

When the smoke cleared, Sharley and Asaz’s eyes were filled with incredulity. The black cat stretched and grew at a visible speed, eventually turning into a girl.

She had a red bow on her head, wore a deep blue dress with sleeves, and held a broom with a nightlight hanging on it. There were still scars on the girl’s face. She turned her head to the side with no expression at all.

"Illusion Technique? No, it’s Shapeshifting Technique!"

"The Witch of the Dark Fire?" Sharley quietly called out the other party’s nickname.

This person was Kanter’s disciple, Qi Li.

"What happened?" Sanders had not been paying attention to external matters but came out to meet them because he received a message from Kanter.

Kanter let out a sigh and looked around. He paused particularly on the likes of Greya, Sharley, and others, without saying a word.

Sanders realized and said, "Let’s go, we’ll talk inside."

After a while, in the main hall.

Kanter sighed and first turned to look at Angel: "My visit to Sky Mechanical City this time was meant to congratulate Angel and also to thank him."

Angel’s promotion to an Official Wizard and becoming a member of the Research and Development Institute were significant enough reasons for Kanter to make a special trip. Moreover, Angel had kept his promise from before, cultivating a Transforming Soft-bodied Insect and giving one of them to Qi Li.

These two matters were the main reasons for Kanter’s visit.

However, what Kanter didn’t expect was that, shortly after arriving at the Sky Mechanical City, his own disciple caused a huge problem.

Kanter knew Qi Li’s mindset too well. If she couldn’t defeat Florenza, the "Sea God," she’d target Florenza’s disciple Jiebo instead, regardless of Jiebo’s innocence.

Initially, Kanter didn’t care. The number of times Qi Li and Jiebo had fought was too many to count, but this time, they actually started fighting in a place where Alchemists gathered.

By the time Kanter arrived, Fragrant Plaza had been completely flooded.

At that time, Qi Li had already been caught by the Enforcement Squad, and it took quite a favor for Kanter to take Qi Li away.

But taking Qi Li away was not the end of it. One didn’t need to guess to know the extent of the damage at Fragrant Plaza. So, Kanter took Qi Li and planned to go to Fragrant Plaza to assess the situation, and halfway there, they encountered Sangye, who also went to Fragrant Plaza with Jiebo.

Sangye was also a disciple of Florenza and Jiebo’s senior sister. As a Level 1 Wizard, she was amongst the witches with a better reputation in the Southern Domain.

With Kanter and Sangye present, Qi Li and Jiebo didn’t act rashly. To be precise, as long as Qi Li didn’t provoke him, Jiebo wouldn’t pay her any mind.

However, their peace did not last for long.

As they assessed the damage at Fragrant Plaza, Qi Li claimed Jiebo bore the greater responsibility. Even if they both had to take responsibility, Jiebo should be the primary one. Because of this, Qi Li and Jiebo nearly came to blows again.

After a chaotic scene, Kanter finally stopped Qi Li, but in the end, things turned out just like the scene when he had first appeared.

Qi Li also turned into a Black Cat, assuming an attitude of non-violent non-cooperation.

"Jiebo should bear ninety percent of the responsibility; I didn’t attack those shops at all," Qi Li spoke out again.

In fact, everyone knew that what she said was probably true. As soon as Jiebo made a move, he would summon vast ocean waves. However, this matter shouldn’t be viewed in isolation, because the Alchemists didn’t care about who was mainly responsible, they just wanted compensation.

How to divide the responsibility would have to be negotiated between Kanter and Sangye, or be decided by the higher-ups of the Sky Mechanical City.

"Arguing about who’s more at fault isn’t as important as thinking about how to compensate," Kanter said irritably.

"I’ll figure out a way to compensate on my own."

"And how will you compensate? By mortgaging Luna?" Kanter said with a laugh tinged with annoyance.

Luna, who was lounging beside Angel, shuddered and agilely jumped to hide behind Angel using the armrest of the sofa, only half of her cat face peering out.

"So what about the damage over at Fragrant Plaza?" Angel asked, somewhat curiously.

"It hasn’t been finalized yet. We’ll discuss it further tomorrow," Kanter sighed. Although the high-end fragrance shops surely had protective measures, the damage from their fight affected the lower-end fragrance shops, and regardless, the final compensation would certainly not be low.

With the wealth of the House of Lilith, they could definitely afford to pay compensation. However, the most important thing in this matter wasn’t the compensation but the stance of the Alchemy Circle.

After all, this was the Sky Mechanical City, a hub for Alchemists. Qi Li had caused such a ruckus with Jiebo in a place where Alchemists gathered.

If Qi Li... or rather, the House of Lilith became blacklisted by the Alchemy Circle, that really would be a big deal.

That’s why Kanter rushed to Sanders’ estate straight away.

Now that Angel had become a member of the Research and Development Institute, with his status in the Alchemy Circle, he might be able to mediate the Alchemy Circle’s stance.
