Chapter 72: Meeting with Mr. Choi (Part 1)

Chapter 72: Meeting with Mr. Choi (Part 1)

When we arrived at their company called Smart Home, an entourage welcomed us and guided us inside up to the top floor where Mr. Choi’s office was located. He really prepared with all he’s got considering the number of people who welcomed us, even the employees—they all bowed their heads when we passed by. The people with us kept on rambling praises towards us—from Eun-Woo’s family prestige to my unparalleled beauty that goes well with my top-of-the-line dress and jewelry, and so on and so forth. Ugh. What a load of crap and empty praises.

And yet, given that much of a warm welcome, Eun-Woo was still displeased.

"Is this his hospitality towards the people his daughter aggrieved?" he asked the people with us. "If this is the depth of his sincerity, how shallow is that sincerity."

The lively atmosphere earlier turned heavy in an instant. Eun-Woo looked at them with much dismay. Poor staff, having to deal with something like this when it wasn’t even their fault. Oh wait—was that why he was displeased? He wanted Mr. Choi to welcome us instead of these irrelevant people?

Soon enough, my theory was proven when Mr. Choi’s secretary spoke up. I’m guessing she was the one who prepared and led the whole entourage to us—another poor soul cleaning up after their boss’ mistake.

"We deeply apologize if we are lacking in many aspects, Mr. Jeon," she said. "I’m afraid Mr. Choi is currently finishing another important meeting, and he regrets not being able to welcome you personally."

Regrets my ass. He’s just getting complacent since Eun-Woo accepted his invitation. He must have thought he was so interested in it, that’s why he finally accepted. How very wrong he was.

"A meeting more important than mine? How very amusing," Eun-Woo pressed on. He’s really not dropping the ball. "I guess we should return the same sincerity."

The people with us shot glances towards each other, obviously scared about how to answer him and to check if their colleagues would be able to, or else he might lash out. Alas, they glanced towards the secretary once more, silently agreeing she should answer.

"It certainly isn’t like that, Mr. Jeon," the secretary answered with a voice slightly trembling. "Mr. Choi scheduled this meeting an hour earlier, but it just happened that the other party is rather..."

"I see he’s incompetent. To be unable to control such a situation when he’s the president of the company—truly disappointing. Hearing more about him just makes me trust him less now."

"P-Please, Mr. Jeon. It isn’t like that at all. Forgive my lack of better words to fully describe the situation. Please blame it on my incompetence."

Seriously this guy... making them suffer when it’s not their fault. Why was he doing that? I don’t understand his purpose. Rather, it’s making me feel sorry for these people.

"The incompetence of an employee is a reflection of their leader," Eun-Woo added.

At those words, the secretary fell to her knees and bowed on the ground as if worshiping him. The others did the same, and even the employees who were on the ground floor at that time bowed their heads.

’What the heck is he doing making this kind of scene? He didn’t tell this to me earlier! He’s truly heartless!’

Feeling irritated by the ridiculousness of the scenario, I decided to smack some sense to Eun-Woo. I don’t care if it’s an elaborate plan he came up with for whatever reason, giving these innocent people a hard time when they’re not even involved was a big NO for me.

And so, I whacked his head, unable to control myself. I was just planning to tap his shoulder, but I saw him about to kick the man groveling on the ground in front of him, so my hand just automatically... oh no. But still, that was wrong! Or maybe... I thought he was going to kick him, but instead, he was just going to walk past him? My hands seemed to think faster than me. He-he.

Because of that, everyone around us was shocked by what they had just witnessed. Their eyes widened, and their mouths were left open, dumbfounded by the whole scenario. Even my partner slash husband was too stunned to speak.

Well... I couldn’t back out of the scenario I just created on my own, right? Therefore, I decided to just continue with it and act tough.

"Stop giving them a hard time, Eun-Woo’ya," I said in the heat of the moment. "I would prefer to see Ms. Choi groveling at my feet rather than these bunch of unrelated people I don’t even know."

Pouting at me, Eun-Woo lost all his sternness from earlier.

"Why did you have to whack me, though? That hurts."

Oh. He’s acting cute? Was that alright to do in front of all these people? Would this still agree with the persona he’s supposed to show publicly? Hmm... I guess it still falls under the doting husband category, huh?

"Ah, I’m sorry about that," I pouted the same, acting cute and sorry. "I suddenly got irritated, and my hand just had to pour out my irritation on something. And you’re near, so I—I’m really sorry."

He rubbed the back of his head, still pouting. Did I hit too hard? Oh no. He’s going to get back at me for this later, I’m sure.

"It’s not alright, but I think a kiss would heal it."

’Huh? What did he just say? Ughhhh... I can’t believe he still had time to insert his flirting ways while we’re on the field and on a mission!’

I had to act accordingly, though—like a perfect couple—or else others might find it suspicious. Ughhh...

And so, I smiled at him, pulled his face closer, and kissed him.

’That’s your daily dose of kiss already, Agent Helios! I’m not kissing you anymore today! Hmp!’

After I kissed him, he leaned closer again for another follow-up, but I stopped him with my hands.

"Let’s do the rest later, okay? Go and finish your business here first," I said. "And tell them to get up, please."

"Alright, my dear wife," he smiled and kissed the palm of my hand that I used to stop him. Seriously, he won’t be stopped.

With that, the dilemma was averted. Everyone sighed in relief and thanked me for my benevolence, mercy, and whatnot. After that, we all went straight to the top floor where Mr. Choi was. Once we arrived, Mr. Choi waved his hand, asking them all to leave us alone. He welcomed us with a smile, but Eun-Woo’s face was unamused.

"Ah, if it isn’t Mr. Jeon Eun-Woo and his wife!" Mr. Choi exclaimed upon seeing us, wearing the brightest smile he could give. "What an honor to meet you at last."

"It’s an honor to meet you as well, Mr. Choi," we greeted him back.

Our words were kind, but our expressions were very much dismayed. I, for instance, rolled my eyes when I looked at him. A bit surprised with our demeanor, his smile loosened.

"Please, come this way," he extended his hands and ushered us towards the receiving area."

We followed him until we were all seated on a luxurious sofa. His office was beautiful to the eyes and very modern, showcasing the top furniture and appliances from their company.

"Thank you for finally accepting my invitation, Mr. Eun-Woo," he said. "We tried several times to reach you, but it seems you were busy on your honeymoon, so of course, I understand if the response came a little late."

"If you know we were still on our honeymoon, why did you insist on sending invites?" Eun-Woo asked in a stern voice. "You should have sent one when you know we’re back. You wasted effort for nothing."

"O-Oh," he looked shocked with his response. "Certainly, you are right. I simply thought I should send an invite in advance since I know you’re a busy person."

Ugh. What a good comeback. Truly, these businessmen are too witty no matter the scenario. Anyway, I should proceed with our plan now.

And so, I butted in as they exchanged words as sharp as daggers to each other.

"Excuse me, both of you. This is going to be the boring men talk, right? Business stuff?"

Mr. Choi was surprised once again by my words. But he nodded, agreeing with what I said.

"It is indeed, maybe a little boring for you."

"In that case, would you mind if I just walk around to entertain myself a bit?"

"Sure! I can have my secretary accompany you."

"No. It’s alright. I can handle my own. Besides, I don’t feel comfortable with your people around me."

And with that, I smiled at them, kissed my husband goodbye, and left.

It’s time for some action.
