Chapter 136: The Deal (Part 1)
"Hmm... Casinos, huh?" Agent Hades pondered. "But those incur high taxes. I’m guessing you’re not planning to do this the legal way, right?"
"Indeed. You guessed right, Ms. Hyerin," Greed nodded. "In fact, we already have those casinos in place—up and running. Though, I would have to admit that we suffered a few losses when Gluttony got evicted, hence why I need your help to put it back on track. A simple referral from you would surely bring your valued clients to our casinos and spend their fortunes there. We could also attract potential investors."
"Hmm... And what will I gain from it? What will be the percentage of my cut for every client I bring?"
Greed smiled hearing him say that. He then raised his right hand and three fingers.
"How about 30% of what they spend—each and every time they come in?"
"Ha-ha-ha. You truly are the embodiment of greed," Agent Hades laughed in a mocking way. "You do remember what I just said earlier, right? I can get 100% of that without even lifting a finger. They come to me and offer it to me."
"But not every day. 100% once a week is still less than 30% daily, don’t you think? On the bright side, you also don’t need to offer your night services all the time."
At those words, Agent Hades leaned back on the backrest of the couch and crossed his legs. He became silent for a moment, acting as if he was considering it with much thought while still holding a confident disposition. After all, even simple body languages were very important in negotiations.
"Well, sex is not that bad. Most of the time, I do enjoy it myself. That’s why I always pick the young and handsome ones. If they’re ugly, fat, and old, of course, it would be disgusting."
"But sometimes, those ugly, fat, and old hold more money than the young and handsome ones, right? In that case, you can bring those whom you don’t like to the casino and earn. That way, you’ll be hitting two birds with one stone. Wouldn’t that be a great idea?"
"It is indeed. And since they hold more money, I should be entitled to more than 30% of it, right? How about 50%?"
"Ha-ha-ha!" Greed laughed out loud. "Perhaps you’ve never run a business, Ms. Hyerin, but asking for 50% for a simple referral is quite big. You are not supplying any product, running and paying hundreds of employees, paying for land and property, and many other things. I am already being generous enough to offer you 30%."
"I know. But your product, employees, land and properties, and many other things would be rendered useless if you don’t have customers, right?"
Hearing those words, the smile on Greed’s face immediately disappeared. This time, he was the one who leaned on the backrest of the couch and crossed his legs as he raised his chin up.
This time, no one held the defensive stance—both turned aggressive. Indeed, during negotiations, if both parties couldn’t agree on something, they would have to fight for it until one of them caves in. In this case, it seemed like Greed wasn’t willing to give Ms. Hyerin any more than 30%.
It was all a bluff on Agent Hades’ end, of course. As to why he was prolonging the conversation, I wasn’t sure, but maybe he wanted to observe his behavior. This way, since we still didn’t know his real identity, we would have more clues to finding him. From simple gestures to the pattern of his words, the way he talked, and the exact pitch of his voice, we could use all of that information to look for him.
"I would like to let you know as well that you are not the only person we offered this to," Greed said sternly. "I personally recruited a lot of alluring sirens like you to advertise, and they all agreed. You are nothing but another addition to that list of alluring sirens. I am a businessman trying to earn more money, not lose more of it. Therefore, 30% is the maximum I can offer to you. If you accept it, that’s good, but if not..."
Greed then smiled his usual fake smile, but a hint of malice could be seen in his dark eyes.
"Well, I do hope we don’t get to the ’if not’ part," he continued.
Judging from that look, I’m guessing he was planning to kill Ms. Hyerin should she not agree to participate. Dealing with notorious syndicates like Kraken, especially with one of their "Legs," as he mentioned—which probably meant a head or a captain of something—was truly a very dangerous task. Once in, there was no going back. After all, it would be a huge risk on their end if they allowed her to know such confidential information. Just the risk of Ms. Hyerin going back on them, reporting them to the authorities or others, would be a huge loss for them. And they couldn’t possibly let that happen.
"Hmm..." Agent Hades pondered once again. His expression and body actions remained calm. "You’re not giving me much option then, right? How am I supposed to trust you with such behavior? This is not very promising for someone who would soon act as my superior."
Greed was taken aback. He probably didn’t expect that response. Normally, girls would cower when threatened in such a way. Instead, she calmly affirmed her interest yet managed to threaten him back. After all, trust was also something very important to criminals as well.
But then again, that wasn’t Ms. Hyerin’s personality, as was stated from all the intel we reviewed carefully. She was once kidnapped by a stalker who admired her too much, but she remained calm in the situation. In the end, she managed to kill the stalker after trapping him with her beauty. She was the very definition of a dangerous beauty—someone who was far beyond Ms. Ma-Ri Choi’s league. That was how she became known as the "Deadly Siren" in her social circle.
"You truly are very brave for a young woman, Ms. Hyerin," Greed said as he chuckled. "How very amusing."
