Chapter 119: Tailing Min-Su (Part 4)
[Music Recommendation: "Play with Fire" feat. Yacht Money by Sam Tinnesz]
With two guns in my hands, I pointed one at the driver and another at their comrade, whom they said was named Billy—probably a pseudonym since he obviously looked Korean.
"Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t!" the driver cussed over and over while his hands trembled, probably confused about what to do.
"One wrong move, and you’re dead," I said, pressuring him more.
"Pull over, man!"
"Are you stupid?! They will kill us!"
"Bump them! They’re just in a motorcycle!"
On and on, they argued. Perhaps liking that last idea, the driver tried to bump with us by shifting toward the left where we were.
Too bad for them, when it comes to missions, I’m a woman of my words.
"I hope you said your prayers."
BANG! BANG! BANG!
I shot the driver dead. His blood poured on the car’s seat, and his hands dropped from the steering wheel, making the car drive wayward since his foot was still on the gas pedal.
SCREEEECH!!!
I tossed my handgun towards Agent Helios, and he caught it while I used my now free hand to control the steering wheel and guide it towards the side road.
"NOOOO!!!"
His comrades’ scream of terror reverberated in my ears.
"You b*tch! How dare you?!" one of them said and pulled his gun.
Another who sat beside him in the middle pointed their gun at me and started shooting. There was also another who sat beside the driver’s seat and aimed his gun at us.
I quickly let go of the steering wheel, and Agent Helios pulled the break so the car would be ahead of us, making the kidnappers miss their shots. While he did that, I aimed at the front tire of the car and shot it twice until all the air dissipated from it.
Soon, it screeched on the road, went sideways, and in a circle. If this continued, they would soon crash towards the huge stone wall, and the car would be damaged. According to the mission, I’m not supposed to damage it since other Mythos agents would use it to pretend to be the kidnappers and infiltrate their base as spies. That way, we have ample time to spare until we figure out who their head was. But given the situation, I had to disable them somehow, or the chase would be prolonged, and they could have called backup in that timeframe—something we couldn’t afford them to do.
"Point your gun at the engine," Agent Helios said as he continued evading their shots.
"Huh? But if I fire there, it would cause an explosion! The child is still in there, and we still need the car."
"Just point, but don’t shoot. What we need is for them to think that you will shoot, so they jump off the car or stop it."
"What?"
"It’s a bluff. Do it NOW!"
I did as he said and pointed my rifle towards the car’s engine. Using the scope in it, I checked the expressions of the kidnappers, and just as he said, they started to panic. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but their body gestures indicated they were talking about either stopping the car or jumping off.
The one beside the dead driver kept his hand on the steering wheel and moved his body out of the car, so he could drive instead. Too bad he seemed stuck somewhere. The other four—two of which were wounded—kept discussing. One of them grabbed the sleeping Min-Su on his shoulder, ready to jump off.
"Fire one shot and miss," Agent Helios said.
And so I did.
BANG!
They panicked again. Two of them opened the car’s door and jumped off, ready to run off somewhere. I quickly aimed my gun at them and shot their legs, disabling them from running. Blood splattered on the ground as they both fell to their knees.
"Fae, send word to capture those two," I said to my smartwatch.
"Sending message. Message sent."
We kept pursuing the car, and at last, the man beside the dead driver decided to pull over. He went down and lifted the dead driver’s foot from the gas pedal and guided the car to the side road. The other two pointed their guns at him, freaking out.
Then, Agent Helios sped up again until we were in front of the car and cornered them by the side road. The kidnapper’s car was soon put to a halt, and the remaining men inside stepped out of the car, pointing their guns toward us.
"W-Who are you?! Why are you chasing us?!" one of them asked.
"Don’t go near us! One wrong move, and you’re dead!" another one said.
The only sensible one amongst them—the one who sat beside the dead driver—pointed his gun towards Min-Su. He took the child from the back seat when they got off the car.
"Stop chasing us, or else we will kill this child!" he cunningly said as he pointed the gun toward the innocent Min-Su’s head. "That’s why you’re chasing us, right? Because you want him back?"
Tsk. Would you look at that? Someone had the nerve to turn the situation around.
"If we’re not having him, neither will you!" he pressed on. "But if you let us go, we will take him, and this will be your usual kidnap for ransom. Once his parents pay the price, he lives and goes back to them. But if you don’t, then he’s dead!"
Ugh. Darn it. He was right. In situations like these, even if we were more powerful, they have the leverage. They could kill the child if it would put them in danger, and his death would be upon us. As for them, they could always hunt another child to kidnap. If they got captured, they would serve in prison, but if they had backing, it could be paid, and they would just go back to their usual life.
But of course, we’re Mythos agents. We wouldn’t just back down to such simple threats. In cases like this, according to Mythos protocols, we should—
"Go ahead and shoot him, then," Agent Helios suddenly said.
Everyone’s face paled up—including mine.
’What the hell did he say?! Is he nuts?! That’s a child, you freaking—ugh!’
Wait a minute... Agent Helios wasn’t one to say something without thinking. Maybe... he’s planning something? Was he deliberately provoking them?
"Do you think I’m joking? I will really kill this child!" the kidnapper shouted.
Sweat trickled from his forehead, and his voice shook a little.
"We didn’t come here for the child, so killing him or not doesn’t matter for us," Agent Helios replied.
His cold and domineering tone could send shivers to anyone who heard it.
"We came here for all of you—obviously to capture you for your illegal dealings," Agent Helios continued. "If you kill the child, you will be sentenced to life in prison with no option to pay it off since it involves the murder of an innocent child—and of from a rich family at that. Or worse, you could be sentenced to death, which I think would be your sentence if you do. His parents won’t let you go that easily for sure. As for us, we captured you, and that’s it. We can simply report that you killed the child in your own accord or during the shootouts earlier."
’I see... He’s manipulating them. Of course, he’d do that. He truly was a master manipulator.’
Looking at the expressions of the kidnappers, it was obvious that they were intimidated by him and were starting to believe his words. Truthfully, we badly needed to save the child, but the way he spoke and pressured them was too real that anyone wouldn’t be able to mistake it for a lie.
"Y-You’re lying."
"Why would I? Go on. Try it then. The choice is yours. Either way, you get captured. The only choice you have to think over is—one, if you kill the child, you’re obviously dead with no escape; and two, if you let the child live, you will be captured, but you will be alive, with a chance of getting out in prison once you served your sentence."
Agent Helios got off the motorcycle and fixed his dark gloves as he slowly walked toward them.
The man holding the child started to tremble, perhaps more intimidated by Agent Helios now that he was near them. He wasn’t pointing any gun or glaring down at them, but somehow, his presence alone was scary enough for them. How in the world could he do that? Amazing. Just standing there, and he already sent terror to them.
The other two men that were with him decided to go the aggressive route and started shooting Agent Helios. But Agent Helios easily evaded them even before they fired and disarmed them in a blink of an eye. His movements were so fast that even I had a hard time following them.
Disarmed, the two men tried to confront him fist to fist, but then again, Agent Helios was stronger and faster. With just two kicks and two punches, both of them dropped to the floor. The weight of his attacks was so heavy that I could see the wind whooshing from his kicks and punches. He might have cracked a few bones from them.
"W-What the... you’re a monster," the remaining man standing murmured with trembling lips.
In a devilishly menacing tone, Agent Helios pressured him more.
It was as if I was watching a human trying to make a deal with the devil.
"So... Have you finally decided?"
