Chapter 116: Tailing Min-Su (Part 1)

"Missing what?" I asked him, feeling a little worried that he noticed something amiss.

"In Yoon-Ah’s drawing, the man was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, and on his right arm—at the edge of it, I saw a glimpse of a tattoo," Agent Helios explained. "It looked like the end of a tail of something—like a snake, but I’m not sure if it’s a snake since the rest were covered by the sleeve of his shirt."

"A tattoo?" I murmured to myself, wrinkling my eyebrows in the process. I looked at the pictures again since I remembered there was one where he was wearing a sleeveless shirt. I picked it up, showed it to Agent Helios, and added, "But this man doesn’t have any tattoo on his arms."

"Yes. That’s what I also noticed," Agent Helios replied, looking a little more stern than earlier. "But it could also be that he simply put a plaster on it to hide his tattoo. He was playing basketball within Yoon-Ah’s neighborhood in that picture. Given that he recently moved to the place, he’s still unfamiliar with everyone. Perhaps, he thought the tattoo might give them a wrong impression of him, so he covered them."

"That can also be true," I agreed. "But either way, we should let Mythos know about this. They probably didn’t know of Yoon-Ah’s drawing since she just showed that to us. And Mythos wouldn’t just go, barge in, and search their place for any evidence—Yoon-Ah is the victim, not the suspect."

"Yeah, you should tell them just in case."

As discussed, I immediately reported to Mythos about our new findings. I hope it’s nothing serious and that Agent Helios was right. I should really stop being too pessimistic and stop worrying about Yoon-Ah. We would be on a field mission tomorrow, so I needed to be in full focus, or I might end up committing a fatal mistake.

’That’s right, Kim Ye-Ji. Focus on your mission. Yoon-Ah is safe, her family is safe, and your mother is safe. They are being heavily guarded both by Mythos and Eun-Woo’s people. Nothing bad will happen to them.’

I said those words repeatedly in my head, trying to convince myself to be a little positive. Gladly, it worked, and my worry-filled mind started to ease. After that, I resumed reviewing the rest of the intel sent to us earlier before finally going to bed to sleep.

[In the bedroom, after taking a night shower...]

"Hey, my dear wife," Eun-Woo called out to me as he lay beside me. "I hope you’re not forgetting something."

His lips curved into an evil smirk.

Oh my goodness. But of course, how could I forget? Ugh.

"My dear husband," I sighed. "Can we skip it tonight and do it next time? I need to return my whole focus to the mission, and tomorrow, we might need all the energy we can get. We shouldn’t end up staying until dawn again and then be sleepy for the rest of the day."

"Umrghhh..." Eun-Woo groaned with a furrowed expression. "How unfair. And here I was, looking forward to it since earlier. Tsk. You got my hopes up."

"I’m so sorry. Please forgive me," I tried to act cute with him. "Besides, I’m not in the mood for it. I don’t understand how you’re always in the mood. Ugh. Seriously."

I leaned in close to him and hugged him. This way, he’d let me have my way, right? I also kissed his lips briefly and smiled at him.

’Take that, husband. Fall for my charms and let me have my way.’

Eun-Woo squinted his eyes at me.

"You’re deliberately acting cute to have your way," he said. "How very cunning of you. Hmm..."

"Please?" I said, batting my eyelashes and wrapping my arms around him. "Is it too much to ask?" I whispered to his ears.

At last, Eun-Woo sighed deeply.

"Fine. Let’s do it next time," he surrendered. "But you better be ready for that next time. I’m not going to be lenient with you."

Yeah! He gave in.

"Yes, my dear husband. Thank you."

And so, we kissed sweetly for the rest of the night until we both fell asleep.

[The following morning...]

We got up early the next day, packed all the things we needed in a small bag, and dressed in our battlesuits underneath the casual clothes we wore that day. Agent Helios and I were going to pretend to go on another date with just the two of us. But in reality, we would be in our agent persona, tailing someone—a boy by the name of Gu Min-Su, seven years old, and the youngest child of the Gu family who was also one of the Elites.

The first task for Project Gothel was to tail Min-Su, who, according to the intel from Mythos, was the next possible child to be targeted by a group of syndicates known for kidnapping children. They had relations to those men who tried to kidnap little Tiffany before, and based on the intel Mythos gathered from torturing those men that survived, Min-Su was one of the children on the list.

There were many others, mostly children from prominent families, but the reason why he was the next target was that Mythos’ Intelligence Department studied the way the little syndicate group works. They then combined it with the intel from the tortured members until finally, they managed to deduce that information. According to them, there was an 89% chance he was next. And Mythos’ Intelligence Department was usually right in their deductions—actually, I couldn’t remember any scenario where they were wrong.

And so, we headed out of the mansion, bidding our goodbyes to everyone, saying we would be out on a beach date. This time, we rode a huge luxurious van and packed up some picnic supplies to make anyone think we would have a picnic by the beach and use the van for stargazing at night or something.

It was a really pretty and cozy van, especially the seats at the back where the furthest one could be converted into a bed. Too bad, Agent Helios and I had to fold it up to make room for a motorcycle—black, beautiful, fast, and intelligent since it was developed by Mythos. At first glance, you could mistake it for a normal sports motorcycle, but we needed that fact in order to blend in. Also, since we would be tailing a possible kidnap target, we really needed a smaller vehicle to use during the pursuit.

Going out in a car would be nice but could also be too risky given that all Agent Helios’ cars were luxury ones and known to be registered under his name. Thus, using a Mythos vehicle was the best. Since we weren’t in the base, we couldn’t use Mythos cars hence, how we ended up with a motorcycle—it was the only thing he was able to stealthily hide in the basement, given Mythos’ strict rules when it comes to their technology.

Agent Helios drove the van towards a forest where we met with our stand-ins once again. We instructed them to use the van to go around the town, then to the beach, and stay there until we contacted them again for a meet-up. They were lower-ranking Mythos agents, so we could trust them to do a flawless job. It was pretty simple, really. The only hard part was to disguise like us and not attract anyone’s attention while keeping tabs on our signal and going back for a meet-up at perfect timing—not too early, not too late.

Once done swapping with our stand-ins, Agent Helios and I took off our casual clothes and changed into civilian clothes with matching eyeglasses and a black face mask so we wouldn’t be recognized by the public. The bulletproof battlesuits we wore earlier were still underneath our clothes for protection in case there were shootouts later. We were supposed to follow them to their base but stop them before going in, so there would definitely be a battle. Then, we would rescue the child, arrest the kidnappers, and bring them to the base to serve as another intel source for Mythos. That was the main plan, but of course, that could change depending on what would happen. We still had plans B and C, and so on.

Hours passed, and finally, we were at the most prestigious school for children in Seoul—Crown University. There was an event currently being held at the school, making it the perfect timing for kidnappers to blend in with the visitors.

Whoever the kidnappers would be this time, they would probably use the same tactics as Tiffany’s kidnappers before, given that they belonged to the same group. They would pretend to be bodyguards, fetch the target wherever they are, get them to ride in a car made to look like theirs even though they were fake, and successfully kidnap them either by taping their mouths or making them fall asleep inside the car. Too bad for them, WE were on the lookout today.

Agent Helios and I parked the motorcycle in a restaurant located just in front of the school gate. It was the perfect spot for us to observe everyone who would go in and out while pretending to be normal people eating inside a restaurant.

And just like that, we wait.
