Chapter 80: Chapter 79: I am all-knowing[GTG]

"Who are you?" Ryan asked, gazing at the girl who seemed to appear out of nowhere. Her neck-length, lustrous blue hair was tied in a braid, and her eyes shone with an intensity that matched the gem-blue color.

She wore the academy uniform like everyone else, but with a certain flair. The blazer hung loosely on her shoulders, hinting at a strength that belied her slender frame. An inner white shirt strained against her overly mature bosom, the top button threatening to burst free. The skirt, barely long enough to be considered decent, revealed a hint of toned thigh.

"No one popular, just the person you’ve been searching for," she replied with a smirk that sent shivers down Ryan’s spine.

...

Once again, they were all crammed into a familiar classroom. This time, however, an additional presence occupied a desk in the corner. The blue-haired girl, now identified as Flora, sat with an unsettling smile plastered on her pale face. Her presence triggered an unwelcome wave of déjà vu in Ryan, as he found himself sandwiched yet again between the ever-glaring Lyra and Helen. While a part of him didn’t entirely dislike the feeling of their attention, the silent hostility simmering between the two girls was a constant source of tension.

"So," he took a deep breath, breaking the stifling silence, and turned to address Flora directly. "Just call me Flora," she responded, her smile widening as she met his gaze. Unfortunately, the warmth it offered was instantly extinguished by the cold glare Helen shot her way.

Ignoring the silent battle brewing between the two females, Ryan continued, "Flora, we have a favor to ask of you—" His sentence was cut short by Flora’s confident interruption.

"I know what you want," she declared, the smirk on her lips morphing into a knowing grin.

"Huh... and that is?" Lyra challenged, her eyes narrowing into slits.

"Escape, isn’t it?" Flora replied, her voice laced with amusement. "You want to get out of here before THEY arrive."

A heavy silence descended upon the room, thick with unspoken dread.

"But leaving wouldn’t be much different from signing your own death warrant," Flora continued nonchalantly, her gaze drifting towards her slender fingers that tapped a silent rhythm on the desk.

Scarlet, unnerved by the cryptic statement, couldn’t help but ask, "What do you mean by that?"

Flora’s gaze met Ryan’s, a flicker of confusion clouding his blue eyes. "There is no empire to return to," she stated bluntly, "and that’s putting it mildly."

Before Ryan could voice his question, Helen erupted, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and anger. "What do you mean by that?! What invasion?"

"Exactly what I said," Flora replied coolly. "The invasion was a success. The academy staff is probably..." she trailed off, letting the horrifying implication hang in the air before finishing with a chilling smile, "dead by now."

The revelation struck Emily like a physical blow. The blood drained from her face as she stammered, "What invasion? What are you talking about?"

"Haa! Where do I even start?" Flora sighed dramatically, tapping her foot impatiently on the floor while she rubbed her chin in mock contemplation. "First, the prophecy you all know? It’s a big, fat lie."

The pronouncement hung heavy in the air, met with stunned silence.

"Well, there are a few parts with a shred of truth, like HIS existence and all," Flora conceded, "but aside from that, it’s all a carefully crafted scheme, a web of deceit designed to manipulate you." Her voice echoed in the deafening quiet.

"But that’s absurd!" Emily roared, unable to reconcile this new information with everything she thought she knew. "That prophecy has been around for centuries, as long as humanity itself! How can you spout such nonsense?"

Flora’s smile turned predatory. "It’s not nonsense, sweetheart," she purred, her gaze flickering momentarily to the ceiling. "The prophecy may have existed for generations, but that doesn’t guarantee its truth. It was a tool, a way to keep you humans distracted from the true enemy. They wanted you to believe yourselves powerless against an inevitable doom, a helpless pawn in a cosmic game. That way, they could weasel their way into your world and wreak havoc with impunity," she explained, her voice laced with a dangerous edge.

Ryan couldn’t help but notice the subtle shift in Flora’s language. When referring to humanity, she used "you," creating a sense of separation between herself and the rest. He decided to hold off on questioning that for now, a bigger mystery demanding his attention.

"Who are they?" he blurted out, the question echoing in the tense silence. It was the question everyone desperately craved an answer to.

Flora’s lips curled into a humorless smile. "They?" she chuckled, a dark sound that sent shivers down their spines. "They are creatures who feed on the very lifeblood of a world, consuming its essence to survive. They are parasitic beings who flit from world to world, leaving behind nothing but husks of their former glory." She paused for a moment, letting her words sink in. "Born from the same source as your world, Gaia, they were cast out for their chaotic nature. Imprisoned for eons, but eventually clawed their way free, wreaking havoc across countless worlds. And now," her voice dropped to a chilling whisper, "they have set their sights on yours. This isn’t the first world they’ve conquered, nor will it be the last."

"How... how do you know all this?" Helen stammered, her voice barely a whisper. Her bravado had been thoroughly shattered by Flora’s revelations.

Flora’s smile returned, but it held no warmth. "Then how are we still alive?" Helen pressed, her voice laced with desperation.

"I made it so," Flora replied simply, her words carrying the weight of untold power.

"You made it what?! How?!" Ryan demanded, disbelief warring with a growing sense of awe. He could understand her possessing some extraordinary knowledge, but securing the entire academy? That seemed beyond the realm of possibility.

Flora’s gaze turned distant. "There are things you don’t need to know," she stated coolly. "Everything has a price."

Lyra, ever the pragmatist, cut through the tension. "But how did these creatures infiltrate the world?"

"They have a multitude of methods," Flora explained, her voice regaining its lecturing tone. "One such method involves weaving themselves into the very fabric of reality through scriptures and prophecies of unknown origin."

"But why go through all that trouble if they’re so powerful?" Emily challenged, a flicker of defiance lingering in her eyes.

"Because of the world’s will," Flora answered. "A defense mechanism inherent to all worlds, it acts as a barrier against foreign intrusion. The will recognizes them as a threat, something alien and unknown, and repels them. But if they can subtly embed their existence into the world’s consciousness, the will weakens, allowing them a foothold."

A slow realization dawned on Emily’s face. "So you’re saying they implanted themselves through the belief in their existence?"

"Precisely," Flora confirmed. "With enough belief, the world’s will no longer perceives them as a threat, opening a doorway for their invasion."

"But why haven’t we heard of these creatures before?" Helen asked, her voice trembling. The weight of the revelation was threatening to crush her.

"They silenced those who did," Flora said bluntly. "Anyone who stumbled too close to the truth was eliminated."

A collective gasp rippled through the room. Ryan recalled the rumors of people vanishing near strange portal openings.

"Attempts?" Ryan echoed, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Indeed," Flora confirmed. "As their hold on the world strengthens, they move on to the next phase: procreation."

"Procreation?" Scarlet squeaked, her eyes wide with horror.

"Just like any living thing," Flora explained with a predatory glint in her eyes, "they multiply. They possess unsuspecting humans who perform foolish rituals to summon demons or make pacts with unknown entities. Once possessed, they feed off the human’s mana core, a source of immense power. That’s also why they never leave a body behind – they devour the mana core to fuel their own growth."

Panic began to set in. The enormity of the situation was crushing.

"And with time," Flora continued, her voice laced with grim satisfaction, "belief in these otherworldly beings soared. It reached a fever pitch, with many dedicating themselves to uncovering the truth, which of course, was precisely what they wanted all along. Belief is power, and they craved the power to fully manifest in your world."

"But if you knew all this, why didn’t you warn us sooner?" Emily demanded, her voice thick with despair.

Flora’s expression turned cold. "To be honest, I don’t care about this world," she admitted, her words a slap in the face. "The only reason I’m here is because of a certain someone." Her gaze flickered towards Ryan for a fleeting moment, a hint of something unreadable in her eyes.

Ryan dismissed it as his imagination. More pressing matters demanded his attention. "So... that’s it, we just stay here and die?" he asked, his voice hollow, echoing the dread that had settled in the pit of his stomach.

"No, that’s why I’m here," Flora replied, a hint of amusement creeping back into her voice. "I propose a deal."

A flicker of hope ignited in their eyes. "What kind of deal?" Lyra demanded, ever the voice of reason.

"You help me stop these... creatures," Flora said, her voice dripping with disdain for the beings she described, "and in return, I will grant you each one wish."

Helen scoffed, a dry laugh escaping her lips. "And how exactly do you propose we do that? From what you’ve described, they sound practically invincible."

Flora’s smile turned predatory. "Direct confrontation would be foolish," she agreed. "They’ve grown far too numerous for mere mortals to handle. They’ve devoured countless worlds, amassing power that would make even a god think twice before crossing them."

"So what then?" Scarlet whispered, her voice barely audible.

"Simple," Flora declared, a glint of mischief in her eyes. "I can send you back in time, to the very beginning, before they became so powerful."

A stunned silence descended upon the room. Time travel? The very notion seemed fantastical, bordering on impossible.

"Back in time?" Ryan echoed, his voice barely a whisper.

"Not exactly," Flora clarified, sensing their disbelief. "And not to the exact beginning of this world. Though all worlds are connected by the threads of time, variations exist. But that’s a minor detail. I’ll need to consult the records again to determine the precise location."

"So... we are going back in time?" Ryan pressed, seeking confirmation.

"In a way," Flora conceded. "But there’s a catch, of course. A soul cannot exist in two places simultaneously. So..."

Lyra’s voice cut through the tension. "We would cease to exist here."

Flora nodded grimly. "Yes. The choice is yours. Do you wish to remain here and be consumed by them, or will you fight back?"
