Chapter 79: Chapter 78: I NTR’ED him?![GTG]

"Huh?" Ryan croaked, his voice a dry rasp against the sudden silence.

The world had tilted on its axis a moment ago, the ground rushing up to meet him in a sickening blur. But meet it he didn’t. Instead, he hung suspended, a heartbeat away from a crater, his body a marionette with its strings inexplicably cut.

His gaze flickered upwards, heavy and disoriented. There, a hand stretched towards him – Helen’s. But her beautiful face, now mirrored the one she wore the night she attacked him. Her eyes, vacant, were fixed on something beyond him, just like the other girls.

Following her line of sight, Ryan twisted his neck with a groan that sent a spike of pain lancing through his skull. And there it was. The source of the sudden shift in gravity, the reason the world had lurched into a frenzy.

"What the..." he breathed, the words catching in his throat. Disbelief widened his eyes until they threatened to pop out.

"Lucas?!" It wasn’t a question, but a strangled cry of astonishment.

Yes, it was Lucas, the golden boy, the protagonist with a destiny etched in the stars. But this wasn’t the cocksure hero Ryan had come to expect. This Lucas was a storm cloud, a tempest brewing behind furrowed brows. His handsome face was contorted with a fury that seemed to emanate from his very core.

"What have you done to them, Ryan?" Lucas growled, each word a low rumble that vibrated through Ryan’s bones. It wasn’t a question – it was an accusation, laced with a venom that sent shivers skittering down Ryan’s spine.

"What do you mean, ’what have I done’?" Ryan sputtered, indignation battling with the cold tendrils of fear slithering up his spine. "Why are you trying to kill me?!" The question hung in the air, a desperate plea for reason amidst the burgeoning madness.

If Helen hadn’t intervened with her lightning-fast reflexes, Ryan might be staring up at the sky from a very different perspective – a decidedly permanent one.

A horrifying realization dawned on him. ’Hold on a minute,’ Ryan thought, his gaze darting between the two girls who were once part of Lucas’s harem. ’I just... NTR’ed the protagonist, didn’t I?!’

As a protagonist, Lucas might have felt cheated, convinced that Ryan was manipulating the heroines’ affections. This... Ryan never saw it coming.

"I..." he started, but before he could even attempt to explain, another voice cut through the tension. It was Lyla, her eyes transformed into glowing crescents, her body crackling with an electric aura that seemed to charge the very air.

"Why did you do that?" she asked Lucas, a twisted smile playing on her lips. Her voice was a mere whisper, but it held the weight of a storm about to break. The air around her shimmered with raw power, a maelstrom of blue lightning dancing at her fingertips.

Lucas, however, seemed oblivious to the threat. "You guys aren’t yourselves," he declared, his voice tight with conviction. He reached down, his hand instinctively going for the sword strapped to his waist. "I’ll sever the problem at the root."

"Who are you to decide that?" Lyla countered, taking a menacing step forward. A spear of pure lightning materialized above her palm, crackling with an energy that promised oblivion.

She wasn’t the only one radiating murderous intent. The other girls seemed to be holding back, but Lyla was the first to act. Her lightning spear streaked towards Lucas in a blur of blue fury.

’This is insane!’ Ryan thought, his mind reeling. Panic clawed at his throat as the students around them began to take notice of the brewing storm. Confusion and fear morphed into a chaotic mess as they scrambled to get away from the epicenter of the confrontation.

"What you say now doesn’t matter," Lucas retorted, his voice laced with a dangerous certainty. "I know you’re not in control." He brandished his sword, the metal gleaming with an otherworldly light. The protagonist mentality was in full swing, his hero complex a blinding shield against reason.

"Lucas, I did nothing to them. Attacking me wouldn’t solve anything, would it? Just calm down," Ryan pleaded, desperately trying to de-escalate the situation before it spiraled further out of control.

"Shut up," Lucas snarled, his voice a harsh rasp. "Shut up and die!" He lunged forward, a blur of rage and raw power. His sword, now ablaze with golden light – the signature Star Energy he wielded – hummed with a deadly thrum. Ryan barely had time to react. He sidestepped the initial blow, the golden blade scorching the air where he had been a moment prior. But Lucas wasn’t finished. He brought the sword around in a wide arc, the blazing energy leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Just as Ryan thought he was about to be cleaved in two, a wave of invisible force slammed into Lucas, sending him sprawling to the ground. Emily, her eyes glowing with a soft pink light, stood protectively in front of Ryan.

"I’ve kept calm for too long, but I think it’s time you know your place," she declared, her voice laced with a newfound steel that echoed in the sudden silence. "No one hurts my Ryan, no one!"

Lucas roared in frustration, his eyes burning with a feverish intensity. He tried to rise, but a bolt of lightning, thick and potent with mana, erupted from Lyla’s outstretched hand, striking him squarely in the chest.

A guttural scream tore from his lips as he crumpled to the ground, the golden light of his Star Energy flickering erratically. The sword, deprived of its wielder’s control, flew through the air in a deadly arc, before embedding itself with a sickening thud in Lucas’s abdomen.

"AhhHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Panic surged through Ryan. He couldn’t let the protagonist die. Not like this. Before he could even process the thought, a surge of blinding light erupted from his own hand, a beam of pure energy that slammed into Lucas’s chest and sent him flying backwards.

"What?" Ryan muttered, confused by the sudden manifestation of his ability.

Silence descended upon the scene. The students, who had gathered at a safe distance to witness the bizarre confrontation, watched with wide eyes and open mouths.

Before anyone could react, a voice, laced with chilling amusement, reached their ears.

"We finally meet."
