Chapter 81: Identity
Chapter 81: Identity
Acantha woke up with blurry visions; her body was aching as if she just went through a lot of things.
"She’s awake." She heard someone say it, and she recognized it as her father.
"What are you even doing here?" She heard him again ask someone beside him, which she was sure was Helion.
"And now can anyone explain what happened to my daughter?" She heard her father say again, and this time when Acantha tried to open her eyes, it wasn’t blurry anymore.
"F-father." Acantha said as she was still feeling dizzy.
"Aki." She saw her father turn to see her; he looked very worried with the way he looked at her.
"What are you doing here, Father?" I asked as I looked at him. He was supposed to be in the south, as he said he has something important to meet and do there.
"Why am I being asked what I am doing in my own house?" The duke said as he looked at her while frowning.
"I thought you were supposed to stay in the south." Acantha said as she accepted the glass of water that Helion was giving to her; he must have known that her throat was feeling dry as her voice was a little hoarse.
"I teleported here when I received news from one of the knight’s who was at the dungeon who saw you were unconscious." The duke said as he looked at her tenderly and looked at his side and glared at Helion, who was now holding the glass that she used a while ago.
"And what is he doing here?" The duke continued, and he pointed at Helion, who was also giving the duke the same length of stare as what he was doing at him.
That’s when Acantha felt like a water splash on her; she remembered that Madame Abellarde was at their dungeons.
"Father, there must be something you need to know." Acantha said as she tried to sit, and that made her father and Helion offer their hands at the same time to her.
"And what are you doing?" the duke asked Helion, who didn’t answer him.
The two men glared at each other and seemed to be competing against each other on whose hands she would accept.
But Acantha doesn’t have any time for their childish competition, and she sits without accepting either of their hands.
"Have you gone to the dungeon?" Acantha ask her father as soon as she successfully sit on her bed.
Acantha looked around and saw that it was not just her father and Helion who were inside the room, but also Jarnus, who was with Flamear and Ernie, and her father’s healer friend Hernand was inside her room.
Acantha raises her brows, as all this time she thought that there were just the three of them inside her room.
"No, when I got here, you were already here inside your room. I even pulled Hernand with me here just to make sure that you were alright, and what even made you unconscious?" The duke said as he looked at her while he was frowning, as he looked confused. "Hernand said it seems like you lost all your energy, and he also saw that there was some trace of dark energy on your hand." He continued.
"Have you told him?" Acantha didn’t answer her father, but instead she asked him a question as she used her lips to point at Hernand, who was talking to Flamear.
Acantha saw her father stiffen a bit at what she said.
"No," he said as he looked at Hernand, who seemed to be oblivious about the truth.
"You need to tell him the truth." Acantha said as she looked at her father.
Acantha saw her father sigh as he turned around and walked towards his friend. She saw that the duke talked to him, and it seems like Jarnus and Ernie were also listening.
She observed their expression, and based on what she was seeing, they looked shocked at what the duke was telling them.
"It seems like they also wanted to know what was happening here in the duchy." Acantha looked at Helion as he spoke; he was now leaning against the wall and was also looking at where her father is.
"What about you? I didn’t get the chance to ask you what happened when you went home." Acantha said as she was still looking at him.
She saw how Helion sighed and seemed like he was trying to hide his emotion.
"Did it go well?" Acantha asked him again.
"No, Mother was still the same; I even saw the Baron there." Helion said as his expression changed from sad to angry as he mentioned the baron.
"They were going to push me to marry Lady Noraya, as the baron said, as he seems to be blaming me for what happened to his daughter." Helion continued, and Acantha could feel the anger in his voice.
"That’s absurd! How can they blame you for what happened to her?" Acantha said as she looked at him.
"And what do they think? That you marrying Lady Noraya will bring her sanity back?" Acantha asked as she looked at Helion, who was now looking at her.
Helion was about to answer her when suddenly she heard a bang.
She and Helion looked at where her father was and saw that Hernand had an outburst.
"We treated him like he had the same status as us. I can’t believe that he killed him, who only knew to show him kindness." Hernand said as he punched the wall.
"Well, I was too stunned when I learned it too," Acantha heard her father say to his friend, who was now crying.
"Why does it have to be Iiva? He already suffered a lot during his childhood, and I was really telling him that there was something wrong with him." She heard Hernand say as he was wailing.
"He didn’t even have any remorse after killing the person who was the only one who treated him like his brother despite their status," Hernand continued as he cried again.
"He doesn’t. If he had, then he shouldn’t have killed him in the first place," her father said as he clenched his hands to form a fist.
"What was it that you were going to say about there in the dungeon, Aki?" Acantha looked at her father, who was now walking in her direction.
Aantha gets up from her bed. "Let’s go get there so you could all see what was there and who was there," she said as she started walking to the door, and she saw that everyone followed her when she did.
The way through the dungeon was far, as the duchy palace was really huge and wide, so if you were new in here, you would be lost.
"Wahhhh"
"What was that?" Acantha heard Ernie ask as he looked scared at what he heard and jumped to Jarnus.
"Idiot, get off me!" Jarnus said as he was trying to get Ernie away from her.
"Wahhhh"
The screams were getting stronger as they were getting near to the dungeon and when they were already there.
They walked again to the cell where the monster was at the very end of the dungeon.
"Warrhhhh"
"Warrhhhh"
"Warrhhhh"
Acantha stopped when she finally reached her destination, which also made the others stop, and they all looked at the cell where the monster was.
"What was that?" Ernie was the one who asked, as he didn’t see it the last time.
"Is this what you’re going to show us?" She heard Hernand say as he looked at her; his eyes were still red as evidence that he cried.
"It’s not it, Father; it’s this." Acantha said as she turned back to face the other cell where she puts Madame Abellarde.
Acantha saw the shock on their faces when they saw who it was.
"What is she doing here?" Her father asked as he frowned while he was pointing at the baroness.
"She was the one who owned the monster," Acantha said as she glared at the woman who was screaming.
"You! Get me out of here!" She yelled as she was trying to break the barrier she put all over her cell.
"You can’t get out from there," Acantha said as she smirked at her.
"Do you think I didn’t notice that you only have power because of this thing?" Acantha said as she showed her the white stone that used to be black back then.
"And oh, this one!" Acantha, said as she turned around and pointed at the monster who was still screaming.
"This one was supposed to be your other daughter! Evander’s twin that you hide from the count, right?" Acantha said as she glared at the baroness.
"How can you bring someone that was supposed to be dead?"Acantha said as she looked at her, who was now kneeling as tears flows on her cheeks,
