Chapter 78: The One He’s Been Hiding....

Acantha saw the duke, who was now waiting for her at the dining room, and she noticed that he looked like he didn’t get much sleep last night after what they talked.

"Are you alright, Father?" Acantha said as she tried to get the duke’s attention, who seemed to be lost in his own thoughts.

The duke just nodded at her as an answer, as he seems to be still looking at what was on his plate. She just sighed, as she knew the revelations last night seemed to shock him, knowing that the friend he was with might be a fraud.

After they finished eating their breakfast, her father went to his room after he excused himself. She looked at his back while he was walking.

Acantha left the dining room to go where Mildred was staying. She knew that even if she healed, her body still needed some rest after all those beatings she got from Evander, and who knows if his father was also beating Mildred.

Meanwhile at Triduexfort County~~~

The count went to check on their hostage to make sure his son killed her, but what he saw made his blood boil.

Their hostage was nowhere to be seen, and his son was asleep on the ground. He seemed like he was having a good sleep, which is unusual, as he knew his son doesn’t sleep like this.

There seems to be something odd with the way he sleeps, like he is having a peaceful dream.

Count Triduexfort clenches his hand as his son made a mistake, and now their hostage was gone.

The count kicked his son, who was still in the dreamland.

"Wake up!" The count kicked him again, which made the latter make some sound.

"Ughh." The count was pissed as his son was still not waking up.

He lifts his arm and uses his power to throw his son on the wall, which makes him wake up in pain.

"F-father." The count looked at his son coldly as he was groaning in pain.

"Are you awake from your dream?" the count asked Evander, who was now trying to stand up after being thrown by him.

"What’s going on?" Evander asked cluelessly as he roamed his eyes on the place, and he noticed that he was in the old barn of their county.

"Now, the question is, where is Mildred?" The count asked, which made Evander stiffen for a moment.

Mildred?

She was just-

Evander’s eyes widen when he doesn’t notice that Mildred isn’t there anymore.

"How can you let someone so important in our plan go? and Mildred saw our face. What if she tells the duke about us being the traitor?" The count said as he was panicking.

"We still need them for our plan, and we can’t just let that bitch ruin our plan." The count said he was looking mad.

"But we already got Solai’s book, as you said." Evander said as he was frowning at his father, who looks frantic.

"You stupid!" The count said as he hit his son with his cane. "You really didn’t know that we still need them to get that beast in the north, and besides, we need to get the mana stones in that place in order for your mother to come to us," the count said, which made Evander frown.

What do the mana stones do with his mother returning to them? His father didn’t even tell him who his mother is; all he knew is that she was alive and that she has a family of her own now.

At first he was mad at his mother for abandoning him and his father when he was just a baby.

How could someone abandon him? His father was a noble, and the county Triduexfort was one of the richest counties, and besides, they were friends with the powerful families in their empire.

Evander did everything that his father said. He even kidnapped Mildred and killed lots of people for him, but he still thinks that this father wasn’t proud of what he did for his sake.

"What should we do now?" Evander asked his father, who was frustrated at what was happening now.

"Why did you even let her go!" The count asked as he glared at him.

"I was about to kill, Mildred, just like what you said, and then I don’t know what happened anymore," Evander said as he looked at his father.

"Let’s just leave it. Though I’d rather still use the Solaris to gain access to the Klartis duchy, but what can we do? because you stupidly sleep, and Mildred might run while you were asleep." The count said as he shook his head in disappointment.

Evander was wondering why he wasn’t that typical person who would just fall asleep when doing something important.

Could it be-

"Father, could it be someone entered the barrier?" Evander asked as he put his left hand on his head as he was trying to remember something, but he can’t.

"That’s impossible; no one can enter the place without me knowing," the count said as he looked at him.

That was odd, Evander thought...

_______________

"Are you alright, Mildred?" Acantha asked as she saw Mildred was trying to sit when she entered her room.

"My Lady..." Mildred said as she was about to cry.

Acantha went to her and helped her to sit.

"You should take a rest, Mildred." Acantha said as she poured some water for her as she saw her trying to grab the glass of water.

"I—I need to tell you something, my lady." Mildred said this as soon as she finished drinking water.

"The Triduexfort—" Mildred said, but she stopped when someone entered the room, and Acantha turned and saw her father entering the room.

"Triduexfort what?" The duke asked as he was frowning.

Mildred looked at her as she was hesitating to say something.

"We already know, Mildred." Acantha said as she assured her that they already knew about their betrayal.

"But there’s something more." Mildred, said as she looked around.

"There was one time when the count visited me; he told me a secret about Evander’s mother," Mildred said, which made she and her father stiffen at what they heard.

"The count thought that I would lose my consciousness after he beat me when he got home really mad one day. He was yelling that if only you had helped him in the first place, she would have married him and not that man. At first, he wasn’t saying anything, but he was too drunk to say everything. He said that Evander’s mother was Baron Abellarde’s wife and that no one knew that Evander was their son." Mildred said as she was gasping for breath as she said those words nonstop.

Acantha and her father were both surprised at the revelation of Evander’s mother. How can the Baroness hide her son from everyone? Does the baron even know? or Evander?

"That’s why he was hiding it even from the young master, as he knew how his son was longing for his mother and was doing everything for his mother’s sake." Mildred continued as she looked at them as she gasped again, "The count still wants to be with the baroness, as they were having an affair and always traveled together whenever they had time, but the baroness wanted to stop as the count asked her to leave her family for them." Mildred said as she drinks water again.

"I think you should rest, Mildred; you’re still not okay after what they have done to you," Acantha said as she used her power to make Mildred sleep.

Now, she gets the missing piece.

That’s why the count—or should she start calling him Paul hid the identity of Evander’s mother because she was just near to them.

What about the baron? Did he know that his wife was having an affair with the count or that she even had a son with him?

Acantha heard a sigh beside her, and she saw that her father was still there beside her when they got out of Mildred’s room to let her rest.

But why did the Baroness hide it? She can just simply visit her son, as from what she heard, the Baroness never ever stepped on that place.

She still can’t imagine that they both deceived everyone by being enemies in front of the public while they were having an affair at the back.

And why did no one ever notice it before?

Oh, she forgot.

The count can use a power to use someone’s face or even have a secret place for them to meet, just the two of them.

After all. He was Abanoon’s disciple, and he can do everything he wants if he wanted too.

But it seems like the count really loved the Baroness for backing off for a few years, and now she was wondering why now?

Of all times, why did he make a move now?

Does it have something to do with Flamear’s awakening or something else?

"Your grace, there is someone who wants to see you..." Fabian’s words to her father brought Acantha back to her senses.

"Who was it?" her father asked, which made Fabian lean and whisper something to her father.

"You could come too, my lady." Fabian said as he led them the way to her father’s office.

When they entered, Acantha stopped from walking when she saw the people inside therre and-
