Chapter 119: The People Who Were Deprieved
Chapter 119: The People Who Were Deprieved
Acantha and the others went out from the place where they were staying after they had eaten their breakfast.
They were walking around the capital while Diego was away to find information about the said place that Flamear had discovered.
She was still thinking about the words that the original Acantha had written on her book, but she didn’t get it that much.
She looked at her side All she could see were people wearing expensive clothes. There isn’t even anyone who seems to be busy doing some work. It seems like people here don’t even know what that word is.
"My Lady." Acantha turned when she saw Diego, who just got with them.
"Did you find anything?" Acantha said and Diego just sighed before shaking his head.
"People here won’t even talk to me, like they will ask what status do I have here in this empire." Diego said And Acantha’s hunch seems to be right after all.
People in this capital or this place only care for two things: status and money.
That’s why every establishment they went to a while ago always looked at them like they were in the wrong place. If she didn’t show them the money, they would probably kick her and the others.
"It seems like people here didn’t talk much to people who don’t fit in their status or social circle." Zerth said as he sighed while looking at the people who were passing them.
Acantha was about to say something to Zerth when she noticed three small, familiar figures who were snacking on some food from a restaurant near them.
"Larissa, run with these!" Acantha heard the tallest kid say as he handed the food to the little girl whose name is Larissa.
"Bruke, you should run too!" She heard the kid say again as he looked at the kid who seemed to be a little younger than him.
"But what about you, Mir?" The kid named Larissa asks the boy.
Acantha sighed at the sight of them as she walked in their direction.
But before she could even reach them, there was a man who just popped up and grabbed the kid named Mir in his arms; the other two kids hid in the nearby wall.
"You! It’s you and those other rats again!" The man shouted angrily as he furiously shook the kid, who, despite his young age, didn’t even show any fear of the man, but instead he looked at the other two kids who were hiding behind the wall.
They all looked worried at the kid named Mir and the other kid even covered the little girl’s mouth as she was about to shout.
"What was happening here?" Acantha asked coldy and Zerth and the other were just behind her, looking at the man with anger in their eyes.
The kid looked at her while frowning like he was trying to know who she was.
"And who are you?" The man said angrily at her while he scoffed.
"Mind your tone." Acantha heard Fabian warn the man as he was at her back.
"And who are you too?!" The man angrily said as he yelled at them, which got the other people’s attention.
"Do you know them?" The man said as he shook the kid, who was still in his tight grip.
Acantha glared at the man when she saw that the kid’s arm was getting a little bit purple because of his grip.
"No." The kid said as he shook his head at the man.
"This rat didn’t know why do you even interfere with someone’s business." The man looked furious at them.
"You’re gripping him too tight; let him go." Acantha warned as he looked at the kid, who flinched when the man’s nails dug into the kid’s skin, which made him flinch a little bit.
Acantha was about to use her power when Flamear, who was on her arm, wiggled as if he was trying to warn her of the risk of using it.
"Why would I do that? This rat stole something from my shop; he and the other rats stole food that is worth more than their lives." Acantha snapped at the man and punched him in his face.
"You can’t say to anyone that their lives have some price, and here’s the payment for whatever food they had stolen from you." She said as she grabbed the kid away from the man.
"You will pay for this!" The man said as he walked away from them while holding his face that was starting to get some bruises.
"Are you okay?" Acantha asked the kid, who didn’t even answer her.
"Mir!"
"Mir!"
They all looked when they heard two small voices coming to them.
They saw the two kids who went out from their hiding place rushing to the kid named Mir.
"Mir... Are you fine?" The little girl asked, as she was teary-eyed when she noticed the bruises that Mir had on his arms where that brute dug his nail in.
"I am fine." Mir answered the little girl and Acantha saw that even though he was trying to act strong, he seemed to be soft when it came to the little girl.
She studied their faces and saw that they had similarities; they must be siblings.
"Thank you for saving me, Mir, Madame." The other little boy said and the two kids said their thank yous to her too.
"But where are your parents? They shouldn’t have left you here, as you see many people were bad in this place." She said as she was brushing off the little girl’s eyes using her own handkerchief.
"We don’t have any parents now. They died when the emperor took them to work in his mine." Mir answered her when they were walking to take the kids safely back to their home.
"But who was with you ?" Acantha frowned as she can’t imagine these three kids were doing these things, as they don’t have any parents that could provide them the food they need.
"Granny is still with us, but she was too old to work, and s-she is sick." Acantha heard the little girl sob again at what she said.
"Sick?" Acantha asked as she looked at the three children, who just nodded at her.
She looked in front of her when she felt the place had changed, and that’s when she just noticed that they had already entered the forest, which serves as the boundary between these two places.
"Why is it so dark here?" Acantha asked as it was still early to be a knight.
"This is the forest where the emperor loves hunting animals and people." Mir was the one who answered her.
"What do you mean?" Acantha asked while the others also frowned at what they heard from Mir.
"This is where our parents died when the emperor chose them as his prey. He only did haunting when he wanted; he didn’t even care whether it was animals or people." Mir continued and she could feel the anger in his voice.
The forest wasn’t that big, but it looks haunted.
It might be because of what Mir told her.
They walk and walk until they see some small houses that look very old and not in good condition.
"That’s our house!" Acantha looked at Larissa as she ran towards the small house.
They just followed her there, and the house was even smaller when it was near.
So this was the place for unknown people or, should she say, the place for those people who were deprived of everything.
"Granny! Granny, look, we have some visitors." Acantha heard the little girl say to their grandma inside the small house.
An old, sickly woman came out from the open door; she even coughed a little bit when she saw them.
"My granddaughter told me you help them, Madame..." The old woman said as she coughed again.
This place was very cold; it’s even colder than the capital, as there seems to be nothing to warm the place.
Acantha finds it weird when the woman isn’t even surprised to see them, but instead she is so sure with what she just said now.
"Mir, Larissa, Bruke... could you tell Jarin to give us some wood, please?" The old woman said and the three children just nodded at her.
"I have been waiting for you for so long..." The old woman said as she looked at her...
"What do you mean?"
"
Aridus, aridus, humus.
Est alius mundus sub terra.
Mundus qui per mortem videri potest;
Cum mors venerit, aperiet semitam.
Cum mortem obieris, noli timere;
mors formidolosa non est.
Morti mihi finis, aliis fuit exordia busis."
[Dry, dry, ground. There is another world under the earth. A world that can be seen through death; when death comes, it will open the path. When you die, do not fear; death is not terrible. Death was the end for me, it was the beginning for others.]
Acantha looked at the woman as she said something similar but a little bit different about the clue she had.
"That was the writing there, but some wrote it and some was cut," the old woman said, which made her look at her.
