Chapter 129 --129
Chapter 129: Chapter-129
As she glanced around the market, everything looked normal at first. But there were still things that surprised her.
One stall, for example, was selling a green cream that people used on their faces. Kaya stared at it, confused.
It looked like something straight out of a witch’s kitchen—thick, green, and weirdly shiny. The seller said it was for beauty, but Kaya felt disgusted just looking at it.
No way I’m putting that on my face, she thought. What if it makes me uglier? Forget it.
She moved on quickly.
Looking at the items in Rin’s arms, she sighed. Her money was already gone. Every coin she had was spent. And honestly? Even that wasn’t enough.
She had already borrowed a little from Rean and his clan, promising she’d pay it back later. It was the only reason she was able to buy this much.
They kept walking, almost done for the day.
But then, something made Kaya stop.
It was a stall.
A meat stall.
She stared.
She hadn’t expected this. In this kind of place, most people hunted for their own meat. No one really bought it.
So who was selling it?
And why?
Kaya stayed still for a moment, staring at the fresh cuts laid out on the table.
Her stomach growled quietly.
For the beastmen, it might not have been a big deal—maybe even seemed foolish. After all, they could just hunt fresh ones anytime. But for Kaya, who couldn’t hunt right now, it was a big deal.
So she went to the shop.
The shopkeeper was sitting inside. A lion. Not a man with lion-like features, not half-beast. A full-grown lion, sprawled lazily inside the wooden stall. Kaya froze.
Her steps faltered, her heartbeat thudded louder in her ears. It was the same lion she’d seen earlier.
She took a step back. Then another.
Even the bravest heart falters when fear crawls up from the marrow of your bones. Kaya couldn’t explain it—was this a beast that had somehow wandered into the market? Or... was it a beastman?
The lion’s golden eyes snapped open and locked onto her. Kaya’s breath caught. Her fingers curled unconsciously, nails digging into her palm. Her legs refused to move. Rin, who had been standing quietly beside her, paled instantly, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Kaya looked around, her gaze searching—desperately—for an exit. Maybe if she moved slowly, she could slip away without drawing its attention.
But then—
"Grrrr...graaa..grrr"
The lion growled. Loud. Deep. A sound that rumbled through the air like thunder. It sounded... like it was saying something.
But Kaya didn’t hear words. She heard her own fear crashing in waves.
Thank God she had just used the washroom earlier.
If she hadn’t, she might’ve peed herself right there. That thought flickered through her frozen mind, ridiculous but real.
And then—
BAM!
A fist came down, right on the lion’s head.
Just as the lion growled and Kaya was about to turn and run, a sharp voice rang out.
"You idiotic brother!"
Kaya jumped and turned her head.
A woman was standing beside the lion, hands on her hips, clearly angry. She pointed at the lion and shouted again, "How many times have I told you not to scare the customers?!"
The lion let out a low growl, rubbing his head like a scolded child. Then he started growling more—like he was talking back.
The woman didn’t look impressed.
She raised her fist and said, "You want another hit, huh? Keep going and I’ll flatten you, you foolish lion!"
Kaya blinked.
That’s when she noticed it—the woman had small lion-like ears sticking out from her hair, and a yellow tail swinging behind her.
Yep. A lioness.
She wasn’t huge—maybe even a little short—but the way she carried herself was strong and bold. Kaya’s eyes briefly focused on the tail, and her thoughts wandered.
So that’s what a lioness beastwoman looks like... Huh. Neat.
Before she could think any further, the woman turned to Kaya, who was still frozen in place like a statue.
The woman took a deep breath and suddenly smiled—bright and friendly.
"Hello, dear customers!" she said, waving lightly. "I’m Abaya. Sorry about my dumb brother. He doesn’t know how to act around people. I hope he didn’t scare you too badly."
Just a few seconds ago, Kaya had thought, "She looks neat."
Yeah, scrap that.
This woman was gorgeous.
Kaya stared—actually froze—as she took in the woman properly. She was taller than Kaya, not by much, maybe just a head, but her presence? Powerful.
She looked like someone straight out of a story. Like a warrior princess. No—more like Mulan, if Mulan had golden eyes and lion ears.
Muscular but graceful. Skin dark and glowing under the sun. That sharp yellow hair tied up in a high knot. And those eyes—golden and fierce—fit her face like they were made for it.
Kaya couldn’t look away.
Her heart began thumping.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
What is this?
She could feel her pulse in her throat. In her ears. Her whole chest felt like it was shaking. She didn’t understand it, but she felt it.
So this is what they mean by love at first sight...?
Kaya never believed in that stuff. She thought it was stupid. But standing here, looking at this lioness woman smile like the sun just cracked open...
Yeah. Now she believed it.
How can someone be so beautiful... yet so majestic at the same time?
Kaya blinked, hard, trying to clear her head. But her heart didn’t slow down.
Abaya leaned down a little, her golden eyes studying Kaya’s face with a soft smile.
"Customer... are you okay?" she asked gently.
Kaya blinked again, still a little stunned. Her mouth opened, but no words came out.
Then Abaya turned sharply toward her brother, expression flipping from kind to furious in a second.
"You idiotic lion! Look what you’ve done!" she yelled, pointing at Kaya like she’d just witnessed a crime.
Before the lion could react, she kicked him—hard.
