Chapter 160: 4.25 Sect Leader Ling
Lu Yizhou took no break in between and arrived in Lingyan Sect when it was late into the night, which was fortunate because there were no disciples walking around and saw the way he shakily landed on the area just outside of Sect Leader Ling’s peak. Lu Yizhou chose to forgo his sword and climbed up the hill instead. The air was cold and the mountain was shrouded by faint mist. Lu Yizhou was certain that the scenery would have been breathtaking with the clear stream running down the slope, rows of trees lining and small animals like squirrels and rabbits frolicking around. Alas, he was preoccupied with smoothing his messy hair to care — he hoped he no longer had long hair next time — and arrived at the top of the peak in the usual Jingxue-Jun’s neat, pristine appearance.
Sect Leader Ling was meditating under the wisteria tree in a lotus position with his eyes closed, swirls of pure spiritual energy circulating around him. Lu Yizhou seized the chance to study the man in front of him; thick straight brows, stern features, thin lips pressed into one line. He was the very image of how a righteous sect leader should be.
Originally, Lu Yizhou suspected that Sect Leader Ling would be another Immortal Zhao, that was the being who could see through him in one glance. However, now that he had met the man, Lu Yizhou sensed no imposing and unique aura that Immortal Zhao carried. Sect Leader Ling was just like an average middle aged man who looked younger than his age.
Lu Yizhou stepped forward to make his presence known. "Shifu." He pulled his arms into a circle in front of him and bowed.
Sect Leader Ling took a deep inhale and sighed out the foul qi, finishing his meditation. The lingering spiritual energy around him dispersed into thin air. Only then did he stand up and walk toward the set of table and chairs that had been put in the courtyard, clearly used for enjoying the scenery. He poured two cups of tea and held one to his lips, all the while gesturing to the seat in front of him. "You’re fast, Yizhou."
"Shifu told this disciple to come." Lu Yizhou sat down, using his sleeves as the cover as he lifted the cup to his lips without really drinking anything. If Sect Leader Ling noticed, he didn’t say anything. "What urgent matter are you seeking this disciple for, Shifu?"
For a second, Sect Leader Ling merely examined him in silence.
Lu Yizhou really wanted to meet his eyes and found what was hidden there yet he forced himself to lower his eyes because 666 had crammed it in his head that it was impolite to stare directly into an elder’s eyes, especially one with a high standing. The notion itself was ridiculous, but Lu Yizhou thought better than going against it unless he wanted to make a mistake again like how he did with Elder Mu’s three disciples. Etiquette in the cultivation era was such a hassle.
Sect Leader Ling must be satisfied with what he found because he continued in a leisure tone. "I received Weiwei’s message that she met you in the night market." Lu Yizhou’s heart skipped a beat yet his expression remained placid. "She was together with that boy surnamed Shan again, wasn’t she?"
"Yes. They got along very well."
"Very well," the man repeated with a sigh. "Yizhou, you know how I always want you to be my son-in-law. No, wait, don’t show me that face." Lu Yizhou had no idea what kind of face he was making but Sect Leader Ling chuckled. Once again, he was reminded that this was the man who had taken Jingxue-Jun in since he was five. Of course, he would understand his micro expression. Ck, how annoying. Lu Yizhou willed his expression to smooth down even more.
"You know that Weiwei is already in her marriageable age and many proposals from other sects have poured in. I rejected them all because they aren’t good enough for Weiwei but then, I realized it’s because I have always been comparing them to you. It’s such a pity that you aren’t relenting to this old man’s request." He paused to sip his tea. "Well, it’s not like I can force you on this matter just because I am your shifu. That’s why I want to ask your opinion instead. What do you think about that Shan boy?"
Lu Yizhou slowly, slowly let out a sigh he didn’t know he was holding. "He’s quite good. His character is sincere and righteous and his aptitude in cultivation is higher than his peers. Honestly, he has very great potential to make a breakthrough in the near future... but it can’t be the only reason Shifu calls this disciple here, right?" Lu Yizhou didn’t believe that Sect Leader Ling was unaware of the extent of Shan Duoyin’s talent. He was the male protagonist for a reason. When Jingxue-Jun brought the homeless Shan Duoyin to Lingyan those years ago, Sect Leader Ling could have rejected that filthy, unpolished child with unclear background yet he accepted him, placing him into the hands of one of the most talented elders. Lu Yizhou assumed that it proved a few things.
"You’re right." Sect Leader Ling conceded with a helpless smile before his expression turned solemn. "I called you here to talk about the earthquake that happened this morning."
Ah, that. Lu Yizhou nodded with a thoughtful look.
"I have dispatched our people to examine the area and the report said that the entire mountain has disappeared into one large hole. The explosion could be heard until miles away and the ground shook wildly as if Heaven itself was enraged. Civilians have even complained that they experienced dizziness, nausea and lethargy. "
Lu Yizhou nodded again in response. He had an idea as to where this was going. That nuclear bomb had cost Lu Yizhou his entire point so it had better be worthwhile. And people in this era didn’t know what radiation was so it was expected that the symptoms had caused some confusion. "This disciple has heard of it too."
Sect Leader Ling hummed. "They found traces of spiritual energy in the area. There are two. They suspected the first one belonged to an immortal who had resorted to self exploding his golden core, hence the massive explosion."
"The second?"
"The second..." Sect Leader Ling pinched his brows. "Black Demon Weeping Blood."
Lu Yizhou blinked with a blank face. "Hmm..."
