Chapter 159: 4.24 Don’t Disappear On Me

Heimo spent the dinner in a dilemma, his mood alternating between wanting to weave a poem about Jingxue-Jun’s beauty or scrambling to hide in a place where he could escape from the man’s tender gaze. He felt it vividly on top of his head, sending goosebumps over the back of his neck. Heimo was sure that if he glanced up, he would be able to find Jingxue-Jun staring at him with such an intense gaze that it put the moonlight to shame. He wasn’t so oblivious that he didn’t understand what the other was insinuating.

Jingxue-Jun must have... liked him the same way as he liked the man. Heimo was sure of it.

Sparks of giddiness bubbled up in his chest and he was so happy by the revelation that he wanted to run a few laps around the city and shout it on the rooftop. His cheeks were flushed through the entirety of the meal and as much as he liked the food, he found himself unable to stray far away from the thought of Jingxue-Jun’s lips as he chewed, Jingxue-Jun’s fingers elegantly holding the chopstick, Jingxue-Jun’s hair that looked especially luminous under the dim lights, Jingxue-Jun, Jingxue-Jun, Jingxue-Jun...

Unfortunately, his pink bubbles were broken when the jade plaque in Jingxue-Jun’s sleeves began to glow. "Ah..." He mumbled, trying to keep the disappointment away from his voice. "It seems like your sect has demanded your presence."

Jingxue-Jun furrowed his brows — cute! How could he be so cute?! — and rummaged through his sleeves. Lingyan’s jade plaque was buzzing in his palm. Seeing that, Heimo’s excitement died down as if he had just plunged into a pool of icy cold water. Right, he couldn’t forget, he shouldn’t forget who Jingxue-Jun was.

Having his feelings reciprocated didn’t change anything; it didn’t heal Ningning’s illness, it didn’t exact his revenge, and it didn’t mean that they could be together either. Not only did Heaven forbid explicit relationships between men, they were also standing on two different sides. There would come a day when Jingxue-Jun turned his back on him because how could Heimo — the Black Demon Weeping Blood and demonic cultivator — be compared to his Sect, his master, his family, as well as his standing and honor? Who was he to think that he would be important enough for Jingxue-Jun to throw everything away?

Lu Yizhou examined the jade plaque in front of him. [How?]

[666: Just insert a bit of your spiritual energy, Host.]

666 had been depressed ever since Lu Yizhou drained the point by purchasing the nuclear bomb. Apparently, it had been disgraced and humiliated so thoroughly in the forum that it couldn’t show its face anymore. It didn’t even have energy to comment on every single thing Lu Yizhou did. Well, it didn’t have anyone to blame but itself, Lu Yizhou mused. Who told it to be such a blabbermouth?

Following 666’s words, Lu Yizhou injected a strand of his spiritual energy and the jade plaque glowed brighter. It escaped Lu Yizhou’s palm and floated in midair, displaying the message from the sender. It was a short and blunt sentence. [Come back, Lu Yizhou.] Few people were allowed to call Lu Yizhou by name in this world because of his status, and judging from the current situation, he guessed it was Jingxue-Jun’s master, the Sect Leader of Lingyan.

He voiced it out loud and paid attention to Heimo from the corner of his eyes. "My shifu has summoned me."

Just as he expected, Heimo stilled. He chewed on the food in his mouth a few times before swallowing and giving Lu Yizhou what he had recognized as a fake smile. "Then, you should go, Jingxue-Jun. I won’t hold you back."

He was right. There was definitely something between Heimo and Sect Leader Ling. Lu Yizhou considered his choices for a few seconds and decided to find out the full situation first. It was no use to stick himself to Heimo if he still had no idea what his trigger was. Lu Yizhou made a move to grab his sword and Heimo’s shoulders slumped down further although he covered it all with a smile. "Thank you, Jingxue-Jun, for the meal. Have a good night."

"Where will you go after this?"

Heimo’s eyes widened, seemingly not expecting Lu Yizhou to ask that kind of question. "I..." He blinked a few times. "I will return home."

"The bamboo hut?"

"Yes," Heimo smiled wider and confirmed. "The bamboo hut. Where else can I go?"

Lu Yizhou suppressed a sigh. He told himself to be patient, to give Heimo space lest he scared the man away. There was still time. He wasn’t too late, yet. "I will go first. Enjoy your meal, Lan’er."

Heimo chuckled, this time more sincere. "Of course I will. Jingxue-Jun has paid for it, how can I waste them away?"

Lu Yizhou stopped on the doorway and drank in the sight of Heimo, smiling leisurely with his lips glistening from oil. He wanted to lick it away. He grabbed Hexue tighter to hold himself back. Too fast, Lu Yizhou admonished himself. He had already crossed the line with the kiss earlier and he didn’t want to do anything that could shatter this fragile peace between them.

However, there was no way he could let Heimo go just like this. He had a hunch that if he left right now, Heimo would disappear without telling him just like that. So he took out the hairpin he had bought in the market when Heimo was preoccupied with his steamed bun and tanghulu earlier during the day, and pinned it into his ponytail, careful not to hurt his scalp. Its stick was gleaming black, inlaid with a round luminous ruby with intrinsic gold designs to hold it in place. As soon as Lu Yizhou caught sight of it, he knew that it would belong to Heimo. He gave the overall look a satisfied hum and his fingers lingered longer than necessary on the back of the man’s skull before pulling away with not so little reluctance.

Meeting Heimo’s stunned gaze, he said softly. "I will go to you later. Please wait for me."

The meaning behind his message was clear: don’t go, don’t disappear on me.

Heimo gave a brief nod after what seemed like a long time, his cheeks redder than the ruby on the hairpin. Only then did Lu Yizhou turn to leave the restaurant. He weaved through the crowd and found a secluded area, then placed Hexue on the ground so he could step on it. Flying with a sword was different from flying with wings. For the latter, it was like holding a game console and all he had to do was to draw a mental image on where he should turn. Whereas the former... Lu Yizhou swayed a few times as Hexue began to rise and he had to plant his feet firmly on the small surface as the wind slapped his face.

Here goes nothing, Lu Yizhou sighed.

When Lu Yizhou made a turn, his long hair would fly all over the place, some covering his eyes, some getting into his mouth. And he couldn’t move too much otherwise he would lose his balance and fall off the sword.

Jingxue-Jun fell off his sword while flying? It would make a universal joke in the cultivation world.

He frowned and spat out a mouthful of hair. Annoying.

Fortunately, no one witnessed Lu Yizhou’s first clumsy attempt at flying.

(He quickly got the hang of it.)
