Chapter 364: Chapter 364: The Hongmen Banquet

"Gentlemen, I hope you had a good rest last night,"

Kang Ze walked into a huge tropical bamboo house. This type of bamboo house, common in tropical regions with high stilts, was cool and airy on all sides.

"Kang Ze, why is it you?" A man in his fifties raised his eyes and looked at Kang Ze who had walked in, his eyes showing some displeasure.

Kang Ze did not respond to the elder’s reaction; instead, he went straight to the head seat and sat down directly.

At this, several of the powerful figures present all showed displeasure.

"Kang Ze, what do you mean by this?"

"Exactly, that seat is Sha Wang’s. Could it be that your father has abdicated in favor of you, letting you sit there?"

A gaunt old man with silver-white hair looked at Kang Ze, seated in the higher position, with a sharp and scornful gaze.

"Gentlemen, please calm down. My father is in good health, but there are some matters for which it is not convenient for him to show up, so I have no choice but to host today’s meeting on his behalf,"

Kang Ze sat steadily at the head, his eyes smiling as he looked around.

Before Kang Ze finished speaking, an elder rose from his seat and slammed the table: "You host? What qualifications do you have to host? Call your old man out."

"Elder He, as I just said, today I will host this meeting on behalf of my father. Are you not willing to give me this courtesy?"

Kang Ze’s mouth curled into a cold smile towards the elder.

The elder was not intimidated by Kang Ze. He snorted coldly: "Kang Ze, you’ve grown up, daring to show your teeth to an old man like me."

"When I was fighting alongside your father to establish our kingdom, you were still in your mother’s womb. You don’t have the right to be bossing us around here. Since your father is not here, let’s just call it quits with the meeting."

Having said his piece, the elder walked out of his seat.

The others also got up. This meeting was not just for today; it had been taking place for twenty years, essentially a yearly gathering to divide up interests and territories.

But before they could leave the bamboo house, several bodyguards rushed in from outside and blocked the way.

"Kang Ze, what do you mean by this?"

Kang Ze, sitting calmly at the head of the table, smiled slightly and raised his eyes to the elders who turned back to look: "No particular meaning, it’s just that today happens to be the first time I Kang Ze am chairing this meeting, and it seems that you uncles are rather reluctant to give me face."

"So I had to resort to some forceful methods."

"Kang Ze, are you thinking of turning this meeting into a trap?"

Elder Xu glared angrily at Kang Ze.

"Please take a seat, uncles," Kang Ze ordered the mercenaries outside, and they did not hesitate to force the elders back into their previous seats.

"Let go, I want to see what this junior plans to do today."

Kang Ze smiled faintly: "Since you uncles have asked, I’ll be straightforward. Times have changed, and the old ways need to be updated."

"Games like sitting in a row and sharing out the spoils, fit for kindergarten children, should come to an end."

"Kang Ze, are you thinking of monopolizing everything?"

"Just with you?"

Hearing the disdainful snorts of the elders, Kang Ze also ran out of patience: "Just with me."

"Hmm, the old man clings too much to past fondness, which is why he’s raised a bunch of good-for-nothings like you, capable of nothing but causing trouble. Over the years, I haven’t seen you guys expand the business; instead, you’re one by one whitewashing yourselves, wanting to go legit."

"Ha, do you really take my Kang Family for fools, to be fooled so easily, enjoying the benefits my family brings on the one hand, while on the other scheming to pull away and become turncoats?"

"There aren’t that many good things in this world."

"You’re already old enough and have made enough money for your retirement. Let go of your connections and channels. Let’s part on good terms."

"Tch, you, Kang Ze, want to monopolize power? Aren’t you afraid of bursting from your greed?"

"I have a big appetite, so you needn’t worry, Uncle Xu."

Kang Ze narrowed his eyes at Elder Xu: "Elder Xu, I’ve heard that your daughter is quite impressive, securing an admission letter from a prestigious Ivy League school in the Northern Federation this year. And I’ve heard that the girl is a beauty, stunning enough to overthrow cities."

"Are you threatening me!"

Elder Xu’s complexion shifted slightly as he looked at Kang Ze, who simply smiled lightly: "How could you call it a threat? If it were a threat, I should have kidnapped her, taken a few photos, and sent them to you, Elder Xu. That would be a threat."

"What I’m doing now is just a kindly reminder."

"Is this your father’s idea? Or your own?" The silver-haired elder across sternly looked at Kang Ze.

"I stand for my father; is that a problem, Uncle He?"

The silver-haired elder grunted: "Of course, there’s a problem. If it’s your father’s idea, let him come out and say so himself to us old folks. If Kang Lingxiong is ambitious, we would naturally congratulate him."

"But if someone is usurping the emperor to command the princes..."

"Exactly, let old Kang come out. If he speaks up himself, we’re naturally willing to step aside."

"Kang Ze, why don’t you dare?"

Kang Ze looked at these old guys, about to speak, when suddenly, there was the crisp sound of a gunshot. The bigwigs exchanged glances. Before they could react, more gunshots rang out in rapid succession.

The expressions of the elders changed instantly. Could it be that Kang Ze had really defied the world, imprisoned the Kang Family Head, and was planning to replace him?

Kang Ze, sitting in the head position, also had his expression change drastically. He looked at a bodyguard and directly asked in English, "What’s happening out there?"

The bodyguard quickly grabbed the walkie-talkie and started inquiring. After a moment, he came to Kang Ze’s side and whispered in his ear.

Kang Ze frowned upon hearing this; he had thought that it was the subordinates of these elders who had started a fight with the bodyguards.

"Kang Ze, we can hand over our businesses to you,"

"Hmm."

The elders chose to protect their own interests. This was not a time for rashness. This place belonged to the Kang Family, and although they had brought a few personal bodyguards, in a sudden event like this, they were essentially hostages.

If the other side really started shooting them, they would have nowhere to complain. As for Sha Wang, he was probably already replaced by the elder Kang.

Kang Ze did not expect that the elders would capitulate first once the gunfire started outside, proving themselves to be old Foxes, not crying until they saw their own coffins.

"Where’s that gunfire coming from?"

Sha Wang, who had been hidden inside, walked out directly, causing a few of the Sha Wang line big shots to also look astonished.

Could it be they were mistaken?

"Father, it seems there’s a little problem over by the Duel Arena; some of the prisoners have escaped and are headed towards the Inner Zone. But the Inner Zone has bodyguard protection, so there should be no major issues,"

"Nonsense, a rabble like that won’t be able to storm in, but if they hurt the distinguished guests outside, that would ruin everything. Call the training camp immediately, and send the security team over,"
