Chapter 195: Chapter 195: As Expected

"Huh, how about we make a bet?"

Li Feng looked towards Jiang Linda with a light chuckle, and Jiang Linda bit her lip as she stared at her "ruthless" and quite hooligan boss.

"Bet on what?"

Li Feng smiled slightly and said, "Let’s bet that the police won’t be able to trace it back to me and that this case will soon come to a conclusion."

"Where does your confidence come from?"

"If you don’t believe it, we’ll just have to wait and see. But if things turn out the way I said, what do you plan to lose?"

Li Feng squinted at Jiang Linda, who blushed and said, "Rascal, dream on. I won’t give in to you."

"Assistant Jiang, what’s on your mind all day long? Do you really think I want to sleep with you? Can’t it be that I admire your abilities and want you to be good at your job as my assistant?"

Jiang Linda was taken aback and looked at Li Feng, "Is that really what you think?"

"Haha, seeing that look on your face, you haven’t already been conquered by me, have you?"

"Get lost!"

Jiang Linda, fuming, slammed the table and glared furiously at Li Feng. Li Feng, finding Jiang Linda’s anger quite amusing, cheerfully hopped off the desk and whistled a tune as he walked into the office.

Listening to Li Feng humming "Today is such a good day," Jiang Linda felt like charging at him and smashing something in his face. She had never seen anyone like him before.

Jiang Linda, fuming, sat down in her chair and began clicking through the news online when she encountered a live press conference.

The background of the press conference was clearly a police station. After a short wait, a spokesperson for the police stepped up to the podium— it was a strikingly impressive policewoman.

"Good day to all the journalists. Today, the Sea City police officially inform major media outlets about the arrest made yesterday in a significant smuggling case."

Jiang Linda listened intently to the police statement, word for word, and the situation unfolded just as Li Feng had anticipated: the culprit was a smuggling gang, its key members had been killed, and illegal shipment including 50 billion in value of smuggled cars and numerous contraband items had been seized.

In the whole affair, Li Feng seemed like a ghost—he simply didn’t exist. Instead, Hua Yun Group became the scapegoat, Yuan Hua the smuggling mastermind. With the Hua Yun Group seized, it was as if even dying was in vain.

Jiang Linda genuinely wanted to call the police and tell them that it wasn’t what they thought, that it was all done by that bastard in her office.

But that thought was extinguished as quickly as it came; she had no evidence and simply couldn’t explain what had happened the day before.

Li Feng in the office had also finished watching the police statement, and everything was just as expected. Jiang Linda walked straight into Li Feng’s office, closed the door behind her, and, with a cold face, stood over Li Feng’s desk staring down at him.

"Why did you do it?"

Li Feng looked at Jiang Linda and smiled faintly, "What have I done?"

"You know what I’m talking about. You took me onto that boat yesterday, then I was knocked out by you and have no idea what happened afterward, but obviously, you killed Yuan Hua," Jiang Linda said, biting her teeth as she looked at Li Feng.

Li Feng swung his feet off the desk and swept his gaze over Jiang Linda, "You want me to admit that I killed Yuan Hua, and then what? Are you going to take the evidence you’ve recorded to the police and report me?"

"You’re really naive, you know? The place where the Da Hua got into trouble yesterday was the Public Sea. Do you understand what the Public Sea means? It isn’t under the jurisdiction of any country; it’s a free maritime area."

"That means, whatever happens in that area, it doesn’t trigger any laws. The police don’t have any authority there, got it?"

Li Feng walked around his desk, and as Jiang Linda saw him approaching, she instinctively took half a step back. Li Feng, with a slight curl of his lips, reached out to wrap his arm around Jiang Linda’s slender waist.

"Be a good girl and give me your phone."

Jiang Linda tensed up as Li Feng embraced her, and her phone was effortlessly taken from her by Li Feng, who glared at the screen.

"Huh, you didn’t record anything."

Jiang Linda bit her lip as she looked at Li Feng, "I just want to know the truth. Why did you let me know all this?"

Jiang Linda was somewhat agitated. She should never have been exposed to these things, which undoubtedly introduced unforeseeable deviations into her life.

Li Feng looked at Jiang Linda, "Aren’t you staying by my side to learn all the nitty-gritty about me? I just couldn’t be bothered with playing mind games with you and decided to let you know outright. I didn’t expect you wouldn’t appreciate it."

"Shameless."

"Thank you for the compliment."

Jiang Linda felt a profound sense of powerlessness well up inside her and reached out to push Li Feng away. Li Feng didn’t let go, not because he wanted to take advantage, but because she was emotionally unstable at that moment; if he let her go, who knew if she might do something foolish.

It seemed this tactic of turning the tables and spiking the drink was a bit too aggressive.

Just then,

The office door was pushed open, and a female employee, upon seeing two people in the office glued together in an apparently ambiguous manner, was clearly stunned.

"Uh, sorry for interrupting."

The female employee quickly withdrew and closed the door behind her, pondering what she had seen — Jiang Linda had so quickly linked up with that freeloader.

Indeed, a true professional gigolo. That was quite impressive.

Jiang Linda was formerly Assistant to the Vice President Zhou Jie. The Vice President had barely left when these two had hooked up; it looked like the previous rumors were true.

So, Jiang Linda was no respectable woman, either.

Jiang Linda, her face flushed, pushed Li Feng away, "It’s all your fault." Jiang Linda had been in the workplace for several years now, and that scene would surely spread throughout the entire company in under a minute.

"We haven’t done anything, have we?"

Jiang Linda looked at the unflappable Li Feng — truly, a person shameless knows no rival. She sidestepped Li Feng and left the office with a click of her heels.

"Director Li, I didn’t mean to do that just now."

"Is there something you need from me?" Li Feng looked up at the female employee, not bothering to explain, knowing that such matters only get murkier with more explanation.

"Someone is looking for you. They’re in the conference room."

"Oh."

Li Feng raised his eyebrows slightly. He stood up, walked out of the office, and arrived at the company’s small conference room where Tong Qian turned around and stood up from her chair.

"Li Feng, bet you didn’t expect me to come looking for you."

Li Feng regarded Tong Qian, dressed in a black pleated dress, her face delicately made up, standing there with an unmistakable star quality.

"You all, go out."

Li Feng waved the female employees, who were seeking Tong Qian’s autograph, away. After they left and he had closed the door, he turned to Tong Qian, "The matter is settled for you, isn’t it."

"Doesn’t that warrant a thank-you from me? Are you free today? I’ll treat you to a meal."

"You can’t refuse. I came to find you the moment I got back. You’ve done me such a big favor and even attracted quite some trouble yourself. If you don’t let me do anything in return, I’d feel terribly guilty."

Tong Qian patted her chest.

"Heh, it looks like I can’t refuse, huh?"

Tong Qian pouted in annoyance, "Even if you refuse, I’ll drag you there myself." Saying this, she naturally looped her arm through Li Feng’s and headed straight out.
