Chapter 173: Cowardly?
Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Cowardly?
"Coward!"
"Total coward."
Fang Ting sat in her car, clicking her tongue as she watched Lin Hao use money to slap someone’s face yet again. The scene was, admittedly, somewhat satisfying.
She suspected that this guy must have a reason for rebuffing Ma Shuangshuang; probably it was as they guessed, playing hard to get.
Too bad, he’s just a pretty boy from the sticks who thinks the same trick works on everyone. As if they, the Heroine Association, haven’t seen every scheme in the book—just a man’s petty ploys.
"Really don’t know what got into Shuangshuang to develop a thing for him."
"Don’t jump to conclusions so fast."
Nolan Zhi wasn’t in a rush to judge. As the saying goes, the harder you push, the stronger the rebound. Given what Lin Hao was doing, there was no way the other party would continue to endure it.
She was actually looking forward to it.
"Li Feng."
At that moment, Wang Jin’er, from the car behind, pushed open the door, fearing that Li Feng might lose control and start a fight. She was still a few meters away when she called out his name.
Lin Hao turned his head to see Wang Jin’er rushing over, the resentment in his heart deepening. Could it be that during his absence, this penniless loser had actually won over Wang Jin’er?
Wang Jin’er rushed to Li Feng and stood in front of him, "Lin Hao, aren’t you going a bit too far?"
Lin Hao, faced with Wang Jin’er’s rebuke, felt embarrassed. His crush was questioning him for another man—anyone would find that annoying.
"Hmph, I’ll let you off today, but there will be other days."
Lin Hao turned around and walked into the hotel, his arm around Cui Changjing’s slender waist. It wasn’t that he had given up on Wang Jin’er, but rather the task assigned by the old man at home—to marry this Southern Country woman.
Fortunately, this Southern Country beauty had both the looks and the body, top-notch; whether they were natural or not was another matter, but at least they were pleasing to the eye.
Wang Jin’er watched Lin Hao walk away and sighed in relief. She was genuinely afraid that Li Feng wouldn’t be able to control himself and would end up marking the other’s face with a well-placed punch.
And then, who knew how they would have settled things.
"What... what are you doing?"
Wang Jin’er turned around, but didn’t see Li Feng. The next second, she looked down to see Li Feng squatting on the ground picking up money.
Li Feng, picking up the money, said, "Picking up money."
Wang Jin’er looked at Li Feng with a hint of sadness, "Li Feng, I wasn’t siding with him. I’m just worried that if you started a fight, it would cause you a lot of trouble."
"Nolan, this guy is pretty impressive, huh? Isn’t that the Wang Family’s young miss? They seem to know each other pretty well."
Fang Ting observed Wang Jin’er. The high-society circle wasn’t too large, or too small; one of the basic skills for navigating it was recognizing people. Even if you haven’t met them before, you had to know who they were to avoid big blunders.
"I’m familiar with this Wang Jin’er, and I’ve been considering inviting her to join the Association. She just graduated and is still somewhat naïve."
"She’s now the president of Myth Communication, and this Li Feng also works at Myth. Hmm, it seems that his rejection of Shuangshuang isn’t because she isn’t pretty enough, but because he already has a target."
"And, his target is easier to court."
Upon hearing this, Fang Ting said, "Indeed, she’s more gullible, eh? Beautiful as Huacheng itself, with curves in all the right places, and still a blank slate."
"And given the situation with the Wang Family, she’s the sole daughter, the lawful sole heir. Landing her means stepping right onto the pinnacle of society."
"This guy has some nerve."
After saying this, Fang Ting turned her head to Nolan Zhi, "Shall we continue the plan?"
"Yeah."
"But let’s make a change—have someone arrange for them to be seated at the same table."
"Good idea, this is going to be quite the show."
Li Feng noticed the two women in the luxury car. Instinctively glancing at them, he stood up after picking up the money and handed it to the doorman.
The doorman stood dumbfounded; the stack must have contained tens of thousands, and since it wasn’t used to slap anyone’s face, he wouldn’t refuse it.
"You’re not angry anymore?"
Wang Jin’er turned her head to look at Li Feng, and Li Feng turned his head away, "Not angry."
"Really?"
Wang Jin’er was incredulous; after all, anyone who gets their face slapped with money in public would be angry, right? Him saying he’s not angry just meant he was, like how a drunk person always claims they’re not drunk.
"Of course, it’s true. The reason people get angry is due to powerlessness; their self-esteem is hurt by being bullied, and yet they are helpless. They can only get angry to vent their frustration."
Li Feng rather liked the Sky Wolf Association’s iron law: an eye for an eye, blood for blood.
Since you like throwing money at people so much, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Li Feng was no petty man.
Wang Jin’er blinked, watching Li Feng go into lecture mode, "You’re not planning on hitting someone when no one’s around, are you?"
Well, that’s very Li Feng.
Li Feng was speechless. Himself, the Hidden Dragon of Huacheng, was always one to use his brains. How had he become a violent maniac in her eyes?
"Sir, ma’am, please show your invitations."
Li Feng took out his invite and handed it over, and Wang Jin’er also took hers out from her bag. After passing the security check, the two entered the auction venue.
"Please follow me."
The waitress led the way, steering them towards a table that already had some people at it, and coincidentally, Lin Hao and Cui Changjing were among them.
Cui Changjing noticed Li Feng approaching first, as she had a strong impression of this man. She nudged Lin Hao, who was talking to someone next to him.
Lin Hao turned around and saw Li Feng and Wang Jin’er standing nearby. It was true that enemies often cross paths.
"Wow, we meet again. How coincidental."
Lin Hao squinted at Li Feng.
"Lin Hao, is he your friend? He looks new to me. Won’t you introduce us?" The young man seated next to Lin Hao glanced at Li Feng, then his gaze was drawn to Wang Jin’er beside Li Feng, who was a sight to behold.
Tsk.
Perfect.
Lin Hao stood up with a smile, "Indeed, an introduction is in order."
Lin Hao glanced at Li Feng, "This is Li Feng, um... seems like a poor sod. I thought he was the doorman at first, but apparently not. I guess now he’s just tagging along with Miss Wang."
Lin Hao looked at Li Feng with sarcasm.
"Am I right in my introduction?"
"Oh?"
Sun Yuzhou listened to Lin Hao’s introduction and couldn’t help but size up Li Feng. His outfit was appropriate, but on closer inspection, it seemed to lack any recognizable labels.
The auction allowed bringing a plus one, and he had thought Wang Jin’er was Li Feng’s date, but it appeared the situation was reversed.
"Lin Hao, if you don’t know, then don’t talk nonsense."
Wang Jin’er watched Lin Hao coldly. At the entrance, Lin Hao had slapped Li Feng with money, and she had barely managed to stop Li Feng. She didn’t expect Lin Hao to take it up a notch.
"Can we get a different table please?"
The waitress was in a bit of a dilemma.
Li Feng, however, didn’t mind and simply pulled out a chair, "Let’s sit here; it’s a good spot, not too close, not too far, just right."
Wang Jin’er tugged at Li Feng’s arm, "Or, let’s just leave?"
"If we leave now, won’t people think I chickened out, right, Mr. Lin?"
Li Feng looked at Lin Hao with a mocking tone.
Lin Hao snickered as he watched Li Feng.
"You put it well; some people have no other talent, but they sure have a thick face. No wonder you’ve managed to win over Miss Wang. I really do admire you."
