Chapter 656: Chapter 630: Unable to Distinguish Between Friend and Foe
"Which room?"
Ramos struggled to raise his head. His vision began to blur as he glanced around in a daze and pointed to a door, an action that exhausted his last bit of energy before he dropped his head and completely fainted.
Without further ado, the unoccupied Sith quickly dashed to the room Ramos pointed to, gently twisted the door handle, and immediately stepped aside.
The door opened, and Ramos first scanned the room. Upon noticing it contained only medical equipment and a hospital bed, he rushed inside.
"Found it."
Sith shouted briefly, prompting Gao Yi and the others to swiftly follow and discover the room was indeed a fully equipped, functional ward.
The ward and operation room definitely had differences, as this room temporarily included a few medical instruments for monitoring patients’ conditions, such as an ECG, a small X-ray machine, an infusion pump, a blood transfusion device, a bedside ultrasound machine, and a defibrillator.
On the bed lay a person, receiving an infusion, still unconscious. Gao Yi did not recognize this person, but upon checking the data, he realized it had to be Little Andic.
Gao Yi had been worried about a futile effort leading to disappointment, but upon confirming Little Andic’s presence here, his heart finally found relief.
It was unclear if the ward was arranged temporarily or well-prepared in advance, but in such a level of ward, the most critical element was not the machines but the doctors.
With the crackling noise downstairs continuing for ages, surely the doctors heard the commotion too. They might have nowhere to run, but plenty of places to hide.
"Doctors, doctors!"
Yuri stood in the doorway, shouting loudly down the corridor and then spoke with great confidence, "I know you can hear me, so listen up: We have a seriously injured person here. He requires urgent surgery; now we are about to leave, and once we are gone, you’d better come out quickly to save him."
After shouting for a while, Yuri entered the room and said, "Get him down from the bed and put this up."
Little Andic appeared quite stable, with even breathing and steady heartbeats, dressed in clothes and having received proper care.
FBI, after saving Little Andic against silencing efforts, highlights his importance.
It was unclear whether Ramos, after being injured, could receive such treatment.
There was no wheelchair in the ward, but there was a rolling chair. When Sith and Yuri got Little Andic down, Gao Yi had already pushed the wheelchair over, while Ramos was conveniently placed on the bed.
"Retreat?"
Gao Yi asked uncertainly, to which Yuri answered without hesitation, "Of course retreat, unless you want to wait for all the police in New York to arrive."
With Little Andic in tow, Yuri started walking out, shouting again at the doorway, "Doctors, come out quickly to save your people, we are leaving, don’t be afraid."
Gao Yi whispered, "They need to dare to believe it. I think Ramos is still very important. He knows a lot of secrets; if no one takes care of him, what happens if he dies?"
"If he dies, he dies; what he knows, others surely know as well. Actually, the situation is quite clear now, even without knowing the details, a correct judgment can still be made."
Yuri seemed unconcerned, and Gao Yi decided to trust him.
Gao Yi signaled Yuri to push the wheelchair, took out his phone, and called Joelson. Once connected, he immediately said, "We are at the Compaq Building, Little Andic is on hand now, hurry to evacuate us."
"Got it already?"
Joelson seemed equally surprised, but quickly replied, "Three minutes, no more than three minutes, we will definitely arrive!"
This should not be a problem.
However, if the CIA could get there in three minutes, even to just support, they should be able to bring Ramos along.
Thinking about this made Gao Yi hesitant and conflicted; he looked at Yuri and said, "Otherwise, we better take Ramos with us and send him to the hospital, which is more reliable than leaving him here for doctors who may not dare come out to save him."
Yuri shook his head and said, "No, his injury is severe, he won’t last a few minutes; time doesn’t permit."
Dani nodded, whispering, "His bullet wound is very dangerous; for a bullet hole, the blood loss is excessive, with bronchial arterial damage, very risky."
Gao Yi had nothing more to say, even though he excelled in killing with one punch, he was unprofessional in saving people and wasn’t skilled at estimating time of survival from injuries.
They took the elevator to the ground floor, Dani and Sith led the way, Yuri pushed the wheelchair, Gao Yi and Lucy flanked, while Buck followed at the back.
The time spent inside the Compaq Building wasn’t long, though it was about ten minutes, and intense gun battles took place inside. Even nearby pedestrians might have called the police, so the police should have arrived.
So getting out wouldn’t be particularly smooth, and Gao Yi was prepared for a tough exit.
Indeed, upon seeing the building’s entrance, there were already two police cars parked, with about three or four police officers hiding behind the cars, waving to disperse pedestrians, while one loudly called for support on the walkie-talkie, and the sound of sirens could be heard even before stepping out.
Gao Yi’s immediate reaction was to fight his way out, but upon reconsideration, it seemed unnecessary.
At this moment, Buck quietly said, "Let me do it."
Buck moved to the front, holding his credentials high in one hand while raising his other hand above his head, shouting, "FBI agent, we are in control here."
Buck walked out the automatic door and addressed the armed police officers, "This is under FBI jurisdiction now; immediately inform your supervisors to send people to cordon off here, many are injured inside, call for ambulances."
Generally speaking, an FBI agent showing credentials to police should control the situation, but today was clearly different. The officer with a gun loudly said, "Sir, before confirming your identity, follow our instructions. Now I need to search you, and you need to wait here unless I receive a clear order, otherwise none of you can leave."
This situation was normal; no one expected Buck to leave by saying a few words. Buck merely sought to ease the police’s tension and buy some time.
The CIA people were about to arrive, and then would facilitate Gao Yi and the team’s departure.
Just then, a car disregarded the police’s direction, parked by the roadside, and someone immediately stepped out with credentials, shouting, "Stop them, don’t let them leave..."
Simultaneously, cars stopped, and doors opened as people inside started shouting before even stepping out.
"Don’t move, Special Service Bureau at work, put your guns down."
It truly became impossible to distinguish friends from foes; too chaotic, leaving the earliest-arrived officers most confounded, as they looked at the multiple credentials raised simultaneously, utterly unsure which orders to follow.
