Chapter 651: Chapter 625: Who Do You Believe?
Everyone knows the Gardener is formidable.
Yet no one knows just how formidable the Gardener is, or rather, no one knows exactly why he’s formidable.
Because all the enemies who’ve seen the Gardener in action are dead.
But Buck saw it, he witnessed how the legendary Gardener moved.
It’s hard to describe the feeling at that moment, in short, Buck felt like he’d seen a god.
Unfathomable methods of attack, everything seemed so incongruous, yet the results were undeniably logical.
Buck was willing to risk it, partly because he wanted money, but more so because he believed the Gardener could truly save his life.
But now, Buck felt fooled.
Buck had heard of the Gardener’s name long ago; to him, the Gardener was mysterious, powerful, like a meteor streaking across the sky, swiftly becoming the new uncrowned king in the underworld.
Buck never expected he’d one day serve the Gardener, nor did he expect the Gardener to be so young.
So when Martin suddenly approached him, saying the Gardener needed his help, Buck agreed without hesitation.
Martin didn’t need to persuade him much or disclose too much information, because Buck knew Martin had suddenly risen from a role similar to his own, there must be reasons unknown to him.
This big opportunity was worth grasping, Buck certainly wanted to seize it.
Buck wagered heavily, then decided to risk his life after Yuri’s persuasion.
He waited ten minutes but the promised rescue didn’t arrive, so Buck knew he’d been deceived.
But Buck didn’t regret it.
Taking ten million dollars and risking everything with a giant like the Gardener was an opportunity Buck had waited over forty years for, he lived his life for this one golden chance—it wasn’t one to miss.
You play, you pay, nothing to say.
"Boss, they’re coming up!"
"Hold them off! Make sure to last, our reinforcements should be here soon, how many are there? How many?"
"Boss, there are only five of them!"
"What?"
Listening to the conversation nearby, Buck suddenly felt hope rekindle.
And the person standing before Buck also felt hope rekindle.
"Go and get rid of them!"
Fear disappeared; a bald man gave the fierce order then turned to Buck with anger: "Speak, what are they really after?"
Buck sat on a chair, hands cuffed behind him; he hadn’t suffered particularly terrible torture so far, though he had been beaten, this plain pain had little effect.
"I don’t know, I’m just a messenger."
Buck’s face was full of blood, many parts of his body ached, teeth had been knocked out, swollen lips uncontrollable, causing blood to flow when speaking.
Buck couldn’t even feel intense pain right now, he was quite excited.
Only five people, yet they really dared to come up.
"You! You’ve been with the FBI for years; you’ve worked for the Red and Blue Group for years! What were you thinking, serving an assassin, how did you dare?"
Not sure about the bald man’s identity; because Buck’s status was indeed low, and this bald man wasn’t a senior FBI official, it was reasonable for Buck not to recognize him.
But the bald man seemed to be the person in charge of this building, as everyone obeyed him, including a superior Buck knew, someone above him in both the Red and Blue Group and the FBI.
"I didn’t work for him, I’m just the messenger..."
"Idiot, you’re insulting my intelligence, do you still think you’ll survive this? You shouldn’t be this stupid, Buck, you’re an old hand at this job, I didn’t expect you to be this stupid."
The bald man finished angrily, then disdainfully said: "Just tell what you know, I don’t expect you to know the Gardener’s target, you’re not qualified, but if you share now, you’ll soon find relief; if you say nothing, I guarantee you’ll regret being alive, regret being born!"
Buck knew he needed to endure a bit more, but somehow, he couldn’t hold back anymore.
Physical pain couldn’t provoke Buck, but the bald man’s words were a stab in the heart.
Gunshots could be faintly heard, not very frequent, but after the shots, someone ran back in and whispered to the bald man: "Boss, they’ve reached the second floor."
The bald man angrily said: "Go eliminate them! Solve them! Why are you telling me this? Isn’t solving this your job? Only five people, finish them all!"
"Yes, boss."
"Really, idiots!"
The bald man cursed viciously, then looked at Buck: "Last chance, if you don’t talk now, you won’t get the chance. I’ll make sure you live at least another week before dying!"
Buck didn’t want to endure anymore.
"I know what they’re here for."
The bald man wasn’t surprised; he sighed: "Good, tell me, are they trying to buy time or scout?"
Buck earnestly said: "Neither, they’re intending to massacre this building, kill everyone, take out everyone including you."
The bald man was momentarily stunned, then spread his hands, puzzled: "Kill everyone?"
"Yes."
The bald man suddenly laughed, he rubbed his bald head, then looked around at the others in the room.
"Too ridiculous."
"Maybe he’s not stupid, just insane."
The bald man shrugged, then said to Buck: "This is your answer?"
"Yes."
The bald man sighed, choosing not to explain or say anything to Buck; he didn’t laugh with the others, instead turned disappointedly away: "Total waste of time, don’t bother asking him anything, but don’t kill him—I said he should live at least another week before dying."
The bald man was about to leave when Buck suddenly said: "None of you will escape, you’re all doomed—the Gardener said, you’re all going to die."
It was still the same ridiculous story, but for some reason, the smiles on the faces of several influential figures from the Red and Blue Group started to fade.
"I’ll go check what’s happening, why has it gone silent again."
The bald man waved a hand, sending a subordinate out of the room, then said to Buck: "So, you really saw the Gardener?"
Buck took a deep breath: "Saw him, or I’d not be here."
The bald man solemnly said: "Where’s the Gardener? Don’t tell me he’s right here."
"Yes, he’s here, he’s inside, and he’ll soon eliminate you."
The bald man paused, then said disappointedly: "You just want to die quickly, give up, you’ll regret being born into this world."
Someone rushed over from outside again, urgently saying: "Boss, there really is an Asian among them, could it really be the Gardener?"
The bald man shouted angrily: "There are several damn Asians in the garden! Do you believe the Gardener came here to die, or that after moving our forces, he’s leading a mass of men here?"
After saying this, the bald man shook his head helplessly: "We can’t stay here, let’s leave, quickly eliminate the few downstairs, hurry!"
