Chapter 520: Chapter 499: Not a Traitor
Yuri was waiting for Solevsky to take his last breath.
According to the principle of reciprocity, Yuri had to ensure Solevsky experienced the maximum pain, which meant making Solevsky witness his family’s death, understand that the rest of his loved ones were doomed as well, and then endure prolonged suffering before dying.
Solevsky wouldn’t die quickly; he hadn’t sustained any fatal wounds that could lead to a swift death, and that was what made the situation most despairing.
Solevsky could only wish for a quick death, though he knew it was a luxury. Still, he had to try.
"You’re the traitor; I’m not a traitor. I only killed a few people. You killed many, and they were all your comrades."
Solevsky only hoped to provoke Yuri.
But how could Yuri be provoked? His emotional stability was frightening.
Yuri simply began to slowly cut Solevsky’s skin.
"You are more hateful than I am. You helped Russia eliminate all hidden threats. You succeeded. The Soviet Union isn’t coming back. It’s completely gone, without a trace left behind."
Solevsky wasn’t sure if his words would work, but he had to try.
Finally, Yuri spoke.
"Yes, the Soviet Union isn’t coming back. I’ve known that for a long time. That’s why I worked for Russia, helping them purge my former colleagues."
Solevsky only wanted to anger Yuri into granting him a quick death, but now, he himself felt even more enraged.
"Then why are you avenging yourself on me? How is what we’ve done any different?"
Yuri smiled faintly and swung the knife, severing Solevsky’s trachea.
Solevsky could no longer speak. He struggled to breathe but felt he had achieved his goal, as the process of dying from a severed trachea, though painful, was quicker.
Yuri spoke in a low voice: "The Soviet Union is gone, but only the Soviet Union is gone. Do you understand?"
Solevsky widened his eyes in horror. Watching his family die and having Yuri cut his trachea hadn’t terrified him as much as this.
No, it wasn’t fear—it was shock.
Yuri spoke lightly: "From the moment our plan failed, I knew it was all over. But just because the Soviet Union isn’t coming back, does that mean my mission is over?"
Solevsky couldn’t speak; all he could do was listen to Yuri.
Yuri continued calmly: "I could stay with you until dawn, but I’m short on time, so I have to leave. Don’t hold out hope—before dawn, no one will come. You will only die in pain and despair."
Yuri stood up, pocketed his folding knife, and said with a calm expression: "By now, you should’ve realized—I was able to come in here and kill your entire family smoothly because they hoped that once I killed you all, I would be satisfied. You’re just a sacrificial pawn—a pawn to appease me. You don’t matter. You’ve always been insignificant. Your betrayal was utterly worthless."
Yuri spoke softly: "We’re different because I’m not a traitor. I was simply waiting for a chance, and now, the chance has come."
Solevsky stared at Yuri with a horrified expression.
Yuri turned proudly and left without so much as a glance at Solevsky.
He pressed the elevator button, and when the doors opened, Yuri entered the elevator and descended to the first floor.
Then Yuri walked out through the villa’s main gate.
Outside the villa, there wasn’t a single soul, despite Solevsky’s house being connected to the police station’s security system and despite Solevsky having sought help, notifying anyone who might aid him.
Yet, half an hour had passed, and no one had come.
No one would come before dawn. That was Yuri’s unspoken agreement with certain individuals.
Revenge is settled; resentment is resolved. But after dawn, everything must end. Yuri had value, but his worth wasn’t enough to allow him unchecked and unrestrained revenge.
Yuri unlocked his phone again with his fingers and this time finally called Gao Yi.
Yuri never troubled others for things he could handle himself, but for things he couldn’t accomplish alone, he had to find the right people to exploit.
Yuri wasn’t naïve.
"Hello, this is Yuri."
Receiving the call, Gao Yi was both surprised and puzzled. He hadn’t expected to be receiving a call from Yuri in the middle of the night.
Curious but intrigued, Gao Yi replied, "Hello."
"Regarding the situation with the KGB, I have solutions to a series of issues. But before I work for you, I need you to help me complete one task."
Gao Yi paused for a moment, ultimately not daring to agree immediately. Cautiously, he asked, "What task?"
"I want revenge, but my strength alone isn’t enough. I need helpers. If you and your people truly have capability, you should be able to help me execute my revenge plan."
"Who’s the target?"
"A former commander of the Glou. Very strong. I can’t handle him alone."
Gao Yi hesitated. He couldn’t abandon Yuri, but he didn’t want to target Russian officials in Moscow.
He needed to clarify the situation first.
"Can you be more specific?"
"Time is short. Before dawn, no matter what I do, no one will stop me. Everything I do has been tacitly approved. But after dawn, the target will gain protection, and continuing to act would violate my agreement with certain individuals. Therefore, it must be done before dawn."
Yuri didn’t ask whether Gao Yi agreed; he merely emphasized the importance of timing. Then, calmly, he said, "Where are you? I’ll come find you. I hope you can prepare before I arrive."
"Prepare for what? At least tell me what to prepare for."
Yuri thought for a moment and said, "By any means necessary, take down one of the world’s strongest special operations teams."
While dealing with Alexander and Ludelins, the situation was already highly complex. Now Yuri was stirring up trouble, adding chaos to chaos.
But chaos was still manageable. No big deal.
After contemplating, Gao Yi decisively replied, "Alright, let’s meet first."
Yuri immediately tossed his phone out the car window, along with the severed finger he had picked up.
After hanging up, Gao Yi exhaled and turned to the people beside him: "Yuri called. He reached an agreement with certain individuals and is allowed to do some things. He hopes I can help him."
"What does he need?"
Gao Yi spoke softly: "Take out someone from Glou. I assume he can’t act himself, but it shouldn’t be too difficult for us, right?"
"Glou?"
Xinfeng thought it over and said, "Glou is formidable—it’s Russia’s strongest special forces unit. But Yuri wouldn’t ask us to fight an entire unit. If it’s just a former member, it shouldn’t be too hard."
"Yuri wants us prepared and demands the task be finished tonight. If it’s just targeting one person, I don’t think we need any special arrangements. I’m just curious—wasn’t Yuri supposed to be incarcerated? Even if he had some degree of freedom, how can he just walk out like this?"
Gao Yi was confident but puzzled as to how Yuri could suddenly appear in the middle of the night and why he indicated he wouldn’t face any pursuit or serious consequences for his actions.
The only limitation was time.
In general, the difficulty didn’t seem high.
Still, it might be better to ask Alexander about this directly rather than question Yuri.
Gao Yi called Alexander, and once the call connected, he spoke softly: "Yuri called me, asking for help with a task. I just want to know his situation. How is he able to come out like this?"
"His status is unique, his situation unusual. Well, I don’t know all the details, but I do know he’s helped the KGB thwart multiple plots against Russia."
Alexander’s response was vague. It wasn’t that he was withholding information—he genuinely didn’t know.
Realizing this answer probably wouldn’t satisfy Gao Yi, Alexander thought for a moment and said, "I’ll do some digging. Yuri leaving the forest ought to be a major matter. Perhaps now’s my chance to uncover some secrets—at least figure out the KGB’s attitude. If the KGB starts chasing Yuri down, then you’d better send him away."
"Alright, you ask around."
After hanging up, Alexander considered the best way to inquire, then made a call.
"This is Alexander. Yuri’s out. Can you tell me what the agency’s stance is—what actions will be taken? Will he be captured or just let go...? What?"
Alexander couldn’t hide his shock and let out a gasp.
Yuri hadn’t been out for long, yet it seemed he’d already caused an enormous crisis.
Alexander listened in stunned silence before hanging up, swallowing hard, and dialing Gao Yi again.
"I found out..."
Alexander took a deep breath and spoke softly: "After Yuri left, he first visited a former colleague, who committed suicide in front of him. Then he sought out another colleague, drew him out of the forest dormitory, and watched him commit suicide too. After that, he tracked down another colleague and killed him. Now Yuri’s at the house of a former colleague turned oil tycoon. The details are unclear, but the KGB has received orders to do nothing—act like none of it is happening until dawn."
Gao Yi paused for a moment and said, "Four people already? In this short time, he’s taken out four former colleagues?"
"Not four. We haven’t entered the oil tycoon’s home yet, but it’s clear Yuri won’t leave anyone alive inside. Right now, the KGB has taken no action—they’ve been ordered to treat dawn as the point of closure."
"Why?"
Alexander chuckled bitterly: "Everyone’s asking why, but no one knows the answer. Nobody knows anything. Furthermore, until dawn, we’ll do nothing and won’t interfere with Yuri’s actions."
After finishing, Alexander exhaled and said, "Honestly, I’m as curious as you are. I want to know the answers even more. If Yuri’s willing to explain, make sure to ask him why he’s doing all this."
