Chapter 379: Chapter 361 Cheating

Dark against light, light against dark.

The CIA had let out a deliberately obvious decoy, and Gao Yi had applied his disguise to approach and eliminate this false target.

The one who had never shown his face seemed more like the real Burning Wind, so let the War Axe Mercenary Group and Sherkin’s Sand Scorpion be ready to strike at any moment, determined to take him down by any means necessary if he dared to show up.

The matter was initially quite complicated, for the battles between spies and special agents were never simple or straightforward; but under Gao Yi’s manipulation, the complex situation looked surprisingly simple.

Disguising was a highly technical and delicate task, but with the conditions now available to Gao Yi, this particularly technical and fine process became void of any technical content.

It just had to look roughly similar.

Inside the embassy, it was time to gather; a car would arrive at the staff entrance to pick up the personnel, then head straight for the airport.

Such events were nearly a daily occurrence, with everything following a fixed procedure; it was like clockwork, much like people commuting to and from a large corporation every day—really, it was hardly worth mentioning.

Aside from those on leave or finishing their business trip and returning to their home country, others, even if just passing by, would hardly take a second glance.

The Pentagon was willing to cooperate, and with Grasse personally at the helm, it was hardly an issue for three Pentagon staffers to suddenly leave while waiting for departure.

Gao Yi hid to one side, taking a glance to know roughly what the three looked like—that was enough, for the important parts were the fingerprints and iris patterns of these three Pentagon employees.

There was no simpler way of replacement than having the actual person cooperate in person.

This was akin to cheating on a test, official cheating.

What it tested was not skill, but courage.

Gao Yi and the other two lined up and entered the embassy via the staff entry, where they had to go through fingerprint and facial recognition.

The entire process was extremely simple, nothing noteworthy because any problem at this point would point to the Pentagon’s slackness, to Panetta’s faction within the CIA being incompetent, to everyone unwilling to get involved in CIA infighting just looking for trouble.

Not to mention that Gao Yi’s and the others’ disguises had no obvious flaws, and hardly anyone knew the three Pentagon staffers. Even if there were flaws and acquaintances who noticed the disguised group, they would definitely pretend not to recognize them.

The main strategy was to turn a blind eye and feign ignorance despite being aware.

Gao Yi was the first to enter the embassy, followed by Lucy.

It was just Donkey who was a bit nervous, as he had been a mercenary for many years, but walking so boldly into an embassy, particularly when he might have to eliminate someone inside, was too alien to Donkey.

Donkey couldn’t help but nudge the pistol tucked at his waist; right now, only the pistol could provide him some sense of security.

Funny, Gao Yi couldn’t bring his hammer, but he could openly carry his pistol because there was no security check procedure at the staff entrance. In fact, many embassy workers openly carried handguns in and out.

What wouldn’t happen at other embassies seemed normal here.

After passing through the staff entry, Joelson was already standing by, waiting.

Joelson stepped forward to meet them, and quickly said to Gao Yi, "We’re due to leave for the airport in twenty minutes. The ambassador just called me over and made it very clear that this is not CIA territory, and regardless of whatever issue the CIA needs to resolve, it must not take place within the embassy premises."

"I understand, let’s do it in the car."

Since they couldn’t take action within the Embassy District, they would wait until they left, and if that wasn’t possible, they could make their move at the military-controlled Air Force Base, which would be even safer.

Gao Yi felt somewhat uninterested.

This operation was too simple; someone higher-up would take the responsibility, someone below would turn a blind eye to provide convenience. Ultimately, all they needed was someone bold enough to strike and it didn’t even require testing any fighting ability or assassination skills, because they could bring guns.

If something unexpected happened again, he might as well quit being an assassin.

"Sorry, I always feel a bit unsafe. In my opinion, this operation is somewhat...illogical."

Donkey was just there to make up the numbers, but now that they had reached this point, he felt he couldn’t hold it in any longer.

The too easy and casual atmosphere made Donkey uncomfortable, everything seemed too strange, so he couldn’t help but voice his opinion.

"If it seems illogical, then it’s correct. If you think it should feel risky and thrilling, then we wouldn’t have to come, and couldn’t come here."

Gao Yi thought he was comforting Donkey, but he didn’t realize his words had the opposite effect.

Poor Donkey didn’t even know who they were supposed to kill, and Gao Yi was acting all simple and relaxed; now following him to the American Embassy was only making Donkey suspect whether he was the ’Donkey’ to be slaughtered after the grinding mill.

Joelson accompanied Gao Yi, and there were quite a few people from the CIA inside the embassy. Although no one approached Gao Yi, there were at least seven or eight people obeying Joelson’s commands.

A CIA agent gestured to Joelson, who immediately said, "There’s a situation, I’ll go check."

Joelson left Gao Yi’s side, only moving a few meters away, when someone quickly approached him, whispered a few words in his ear, and then hurried away.

Joelson returned to Gao Yi’s side and spoke in a low voice, "The one hiding has appeared. In an hour, a helicopter will arrive at the embassy to pick up someone. I don’t know the destination, but now it’s clear, the one taking the bus to the airport is a decoy, the real Burning Wind is waiting for the helicopter pickup."

"Are you sure?"

"I can’t be certain, but logically, it should be so. In my opinion, this is a very clumsy body double. The person riding the bus to the airport has no guards by his side. The one staying inside the embassy is protected by at least twenty people now, all directly under Mason’s control. So, throwing out the decoy to draw attention and sending the real Burning Wind away from the embassy by helicopter is my guess."

Gao Yi hadn’t thought that much, but he had a simple understanding.

The false masks the true, and the true hides behind the false.

If what looks fake is real, and what looks real is fake, couldn’t such a thing be possible?

Unless one could capture the person and check their DNA, there was no way to confirm the truth.

Furthermore, could sending someone away by helicopter really guarantee safety?

Gao Yi took out his phone, dialed Grasse’s number, and while waiting for Grasse to answer, he whispered, "The target might leave by helicopter. Currently, neither of the two targets can be confirmed as the real one, so just kill both. Prepare the anti-aircraft missiles and if a helicopter really takes off, shoot it down. Let Sherkin’s men handle it."

Now the CIA was just short of having a shootout inside the embassy; the atmosphere had reached such a point. In the city area of Baghdad, what would it matter if another helicopter were shot down?

Joelson, who was listening intently at the side, not only showed no sign of stopping Gao Yi, but he even added in a low voice, "There might be more than one helicopter. Don’t worry about that, shoot them all down. Man-portable air-defense systems might not suffice, bring extra, we can’t afford mistakes now."

Real or fake, true or illusion, take down all who are suspected.
