Chapter 284: Chapter 270: Breakthrough
Gao Yi’s idea had been to storm in alone, letting his companions on the plane cover him. Once they created some space, they would figure out a way to regroup and escape together.
But as the battle raged on, he discovered that the people on the plane were not just providing cover; they were crawling and tumbling down to actively join the offensive.
Who said mobility was necessary for an attack?
Although running wasn’t an option, not to mention that even walking was difficult, the primary weapon in combat now was the gun. As long as they got off the plane and had a clear field of fire, it didn’t matter if they couldn’t reach a place; as long as the bullets could, that was enough.
So now Feng Biao was slaughtering left and right. Of course, while he was busy killing, he was also being fiercely shot at from all around.
"Damn..."
Feng Biao ended up riding atop Lin Xianghua, who was pinned down and unable to move, his gun not having fired a single shot.
Luca held his gun and fired continuously towards people near the tail of the plane. He spent all thirty bullets without seeing many fall. However, once Lucy descended, she began walking and shooting. While Luca attracted most of the attention, her gunfire was almost unfailingly precise. In a brief encounter, at least four fell to her shots.
At such a time, Lucy’s gun skills weren’t much different from Feng Biao’s.
The distance was so close that it tested the shooter’s mentality, not their gun skills.
Upon touching the ground, Li Jie let off two shots, claiming two kills for himself.
The enemies surrounding the plane were mainly concentrated at the nose and tail. The sides—near the wings—had fewer people, and all together, there were only about a dozen.
Despite the enemies forming a siege, the ones caught off guard were them, when a group suddenly tumbled out of the plane firing.
Gao Yi watched as the encirclement around the plane nearly instantaneously dissipated. Now, the vehicles following behind him had become the enemies’ main fighting force.
Feng Biao quickly cleared any target he could see. Sitting atop Lin Xianghua, he twisted his body to have a look around. Then he turned to the side and fired two shots at the vehicle that was tailing Gao Yi’s car the closest.
Before launching the attack, those chasing Gao Yi around the airport had been extremely restrained. They had only pursued but never opened fire.
Now, however, the situation had changed. After the assault began here, those in the vehicles finally started shooting.
At this moment, Feng Biao and the others truly demonstrated their role as cover.
After two shots by Feng Biao, two bullet holes appeared in the door of the driver’s seat in the ambulance closest to Gao Yi. Then the ambulance started to swerve violently, twisting back and forth, and suddenly rolled over, flipping several times on the ground.
The ambulance driver was hit, then overturned the vehicle himself.
The fire truck was quite clumsy in comparison. Feng Biao once again aimed at its driver’s seat. After a rough aim, he decisively pulled the trigger. The bullet didn’t hit the driver but scared him into slamming on the brakes.
Feng’s position as a firepower point was incredibly stable.
Gao Yi slowed down, finally heading over in his car.
Feng Biao shouted urgently, "Don’t come here, circle around! We’re not in a hurry to retreat. Just keep them circling with you. That way, I can shoot them easier."
The airport was vast and extremely open. Gao Yi rushing to their aid would only draw in a large number of pursuers. But if Gao Yi circled around the plane, those chasing his car around would be in trouble.
Should they chase the car or turn back to deal with the few who had descended from the plane?
Lucy was emotionlessly finishing off people on the ground. Not everyone had left the vehicles surrounding the plane. When the battle abruptly broke out, some hurriedly drove away, others shot back from their vehicles, and two even attempted combat after disembarking.
Li Jie and Lucy could handle the remaining enemies without Feng Biao’s help.
Before the fight began, it was unthinkable that they could so smoothly handle the situation.
Now there were vehicles abandoned by the enemy beside the plane.
Luca was invigorated, urgently saying, "I’m going to drive..."
"Don’t!"
The one stopping him was Feng Biao. Still holding his gun and aiming, he fired another shot before finding time to continue, "Open fire. Let’s clear out the pursuers behind the boss first."
Luca didn’t understand Feng’s reasoning, but he knew whom to listen to at this time.
After loading a new magazine and taking a knee, Luca began a continuous volley of fire at a fire truck following Gao Yi.
At times like this, rapid-fire was necessary. Precision single shots were far less effective than a machine gun’s output. Although Feng and the others didn’t have machine guns, the density of the four rifles firing together was quite formidable.
The continuous shooting successively halted several vehicles. At this point, Feng urgently said, "I’ve got eyes on the enemy. You go get my "Berserker" down. We’re pulling out!"
Eliminating all the enemies and then driving away composedly was another form of a forced breakout.
Lucy turned and ran back up onto the plane, where she found Feng Biao’s large gun case, dragged it up, and then ran back down.
Unfortunately, with so many supplies brought along, nothing else could be taken with them, if not for the fact that only Feng Biao’s sniper rifle could offer the uniquely valuable armor-piercing capability, they wouldn’t even have been able to take this weapon.
Gao Yi drove over, parked, and then Luca went up to open the rear door of the ambulance.
"Get in, get in!"
The wounded struggled to board the vehicle on their own. Luca ran to Li Jie’s side, painstakingly lifted him up, and dragged him to the rear door of the ambulance where Li Jie broke free from Luca’s grasp and shouted, "I’ll cover us!"
Luca then ran to help Feng Biao, but Feng Biao just lifted one leg and rolled onto the ground, then urgently said, "Get Ah Gui inside, I’ll cover."
Luca reached to pull Lin Xianghua, only to see Lin Xianghua say with a face full of grievance, "I’m being crushed to death by you..."
Luca momentarily couldn’t lift Lin Xianghua, but at this point, Lucy had already thrown the gun onto the ambulance and had run over. Together, one on each side, they lifted Lin Xianghua by the arms, dragged him next to the ambulance, and then tossed him into the vehicle like tossing cargo. Then each grabbing a leg, they shoved Lin Xianghua along the corridor between the two side seats into the ambulance.
Then, Luca went to assist Feng Biao.
Feng Biao, his arm resting on Luca’s shoulder and limping on one leg, reached the rear of the ambulance and then said to Li Jie, "Get in!"
Li Jie couldn’t board on his own; it still took Luca pushing from behind to get them onto the ambulance.
"Berserker to the front, you get in too."
Urging Luca to board the vehicle, then Feng Biao sat down at the rear of the ambulance, placed the gun behind him, and urgently said, "Switch guns, give me yours!"
The HK-417 is 7.62mm caliber, with great power, but a significant recoil, making its accuracy during rapid-fire less than that of the HK-416.
Feng Biao intended to sit at the rear with the doors open so he could block any enemies pursuing from behind.
A bustle arose at the rear of the vehicle while the front driver’s cab was not idle.
Lucy opened the passenger’s door and was surprised to find a man in sunglasses knocked out on the seat, causing her to pause.
"How come there’s one more."
Gao Yi, now accustomed to taking hostages, hurriedly said, "We need to keep him, he’s important. Iron Rooster, you drive!"
Luca was not good in combat; he was most suited to be the driver.
Gao Yi had dared not leave the driver’s seat before because if there was any danger, he could quickly drive off.
But now that all the wounded were in the vehicle, it was better to change drivers and go; they could spare those few seconds. Having another driver was more advantageous for the forthcoming battle; haste doesn’t always lead to efficiency.
After exiting the vehicle, Gao Yi did not forget to lift the unconscious man in sunglasses and toss him to the back.
Then he thought to sit in the front passenger seat as they rushed towards the airport exit,
Feng Biao noticed Gao Yi’s intent.
"Come here, to the back! Leave the Berserker up front."
Following Feng Biao’s deployment, Gao Yi obeyed decisively.
Gao Yi climbed into the back of the ambulance.
Now the back of the ambulance was extremely cramped. Although the medical equipment had been removed and the space had been cleared to accommodate people, having Lin Xianghua lie down and adding the unconscious man in sunglasses, along with Xianghua and Li Jie sitting on either side, there was really no room left to stand.
Gao Yi pulled off the walkie-talkie from the unconscious man, unplugged the earpiece allowing the sound to play out loud, and then he shouted, "Drive! Start driving!"
After speaking, Gao Yi regretfully said, "Just now, the airport guards refused to execute the American’s orders to open fire, but now, they will shoot, and we can only force our way out."
It was understandable. Before the fighting started, Libyans did not want to get embroiled in the covert war between the United States and France, as France, although unable to retaliate against the CIA, could easily bully Libya.
But now that they had started fighting, many Libyan soldiers sent in had died, so naturally, they couldn’t remain bystanders. Even just to vent, they had to find a way to hold Gao Yi and the others back.
All this was expected, Feng did not say much, he just solemnly said, "It’s all on you soon. We’ll attract the attention of the guards, you disembark, I cover you to the exit, then if you can take out the guards at the exit, we survive. If you can’t manage that, we are all done for. Do you know how to fight this battle?"
"How to fight?"
"Guerrilla warfare, you must fish in troubled waters, you certainly can’t just rush up under the enemy’s nose. I don’t know about other airport entrances, but in a country like Libya, the entrance is sure to have machine-gun positions. Here’s what you do."
Feng pointed toward the fence, his voice grave, "We can’t directly rush to the exit; we move along the wall. That way, the enemy will find it inconvenient to bring their firepower to bear. You climb over the wall and go out, then we continue towards the exit, and from there, it’s luck. The next battle has nothing to do with strength, it’s all about luck."
Gao Yi quickly pondered what he had to do. Facing machine-gun fire, even wearing two layers of bullet-proof vests was useless, so the upcoming battle indeed relied both on effort and fortune.
