Chapter 266 - 253: Classic
Chapter 266: Chapter 253: Classic
French efficiency is not bad at all, especially since "The Professional" is such a classic film, and there are plenty of Brits who are fond of it. Moreover, there are many people who like to dress up like the characters from the film, so buying a full set of the clothes wasn’t too difficult.
Gao Yi and Emily were eating and chatting in a restaurant in Chinatown, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. If it hadn’t been for the silicone mask bothering him, Gao Yi might have even taken a good nap.
Wearing the mask was actually quite uncomfortable. Although it wasn’t hot, it was still uncomfortable, and after spraying a large amount of antiperspirant, Gao Yi felt an itch on his face that he couldn’t scratch.
The French are pretty good at making cosmetics, but this time the antiperspirant was not good, possibly because of a slight allergy.
Apart from his face and height, which didn’t quite match Jean Reno’s, Gao Yi, dressed in the classic trench coat and wearing sunglasses, did look quite the part.
"These plants are fake; I don’t like them."
The plants were carried by Emily. The agent had bought a plastic plant that looked almost exactly like the one in the original film while out purchasing the cosplay outfits.
After carrying the green plant around for a few laps, Emily said very matter-of-factly, "Go buy a real one and bring it back."
In the movie stills, Jean Reno is seen carrying a suitcase in one hand and a violin case in the other, while Natalie Portman carries a green plant in one hand and a wrapped package in the other.
Gao Yi opened up the suitcase, which contained several hand grenades.
Inside the violin case was a pistol, an MP7 submachine gun, and importantly, there was also a steel pipe about sixty centimeters long. This was not in keeping with the original, but it didn’t matter; you can’t be too serious about these things, after all Gao Yi wasn’t really into playing cosplay.
Time ticked by, the real plant Emily requested was bought, and the outfits were worn.
Emily picked up a pistol, a Beretta 92FS with a suppressor.
"I feel good, now I have more than just a sense of participation."
Contentedly setting down the pistol, she suddenly grabbed it again. Full of confidence, Emily declared, "And I’m not as fragile as Natalie Portman."
Just then, Emily suddenly said, "MI6 is starting to pull out their people; they must think there’s no more danger. Can we move now?"
The morning had passed, starting to make moves at nine-thirty, then Gao Yi made a surprise turn and took someone captive, and now it was already five in the afternoon; basically, the day had gone by.
MI6 must have felt that there would be no more issues, and it’s a bit embarrassing to have dozens of people standing guard outside on high alert.
Now that MI6 had started to withdraw, but also with rush hour approaching, the roads would quickly become very congested. Going to MI6 now to stir up trouble again would not be so easy to get away from.
"How do we get away?"
"There’s one more route we haven’t used yet. We’ve prepared a boat on the Thames River. Jumping off the bridge is a bit dangerous, but getting into the river from in front of MI6 is no problem. Of course, if possible, we’ll still drive away, but we don’t have many people to help us cover our tracks anymore. It will be difficult to shake off a pursuit if we move."
The French had prepared thoroughly; they were clearly set on making a big splash. And Gao Yi was not afraid at all.
"Then let’s go."
Gao Yi donned a small hat and said, "Give them a surprise. As for running away, I’m quite good at it. I can escape even without backup."
Emily got into the car, thrilled.
And they drove toward MI6 once more.
As the saying goes, bad things come in threes, but Gao Yi was about to give MI6 a series of good turns.
Indeed, the traffic had noticeably increased, and the flow had started to slow down. After a while, if they made a move, the road would probably get blocked.
The car slowly approached MI6 again. This time, there seemed to be no obvious armed sentinels on the road, but there were definitely some hidden ones, and it was not known whether they had been authorized to shoot on sight in case of anomalies, which was still a bit dangerous.
After crossing the bridge and walking for a while, Gao Yi suddenly said, "Let’s stop the car."
They carelessly parked the vehicle at the roadside, and Gao Yi and Emily got out, with him carrying the suitcase and violin case. Watching Emily get down from the car,
It felt a bit embarrassing to be strolling down the street in film costumes, not being cosplay enthusiasts.
Emily, on the other hand, seemed much more at ease; she even seemed to enjoy it. She held the green plant in one hand and a long cardboard box in the other.
The cardboard box contained a pistol.
The two walked down the road, heading towards MI6.
They had to cover a few hundred meters; they parked farther away this time because if they got out and started shooting right away, not only would they miss this iconic scene, but it would also immediately alert the other party. Moreover, Gao Yi had not yet been able to confirm the target for their operation.
"Are there any targets we can hit outside?"
"Yes, although most of the sentinals have been removed, there are still a few left. There are four people outside right now, but they are quite far apart from each other. I feel we can only take down one."
Emily finished her report and then asked Gao Yi, "So what are your thoughts, or do you have any requests?"
"No, just walk over, act, break someone’s leg, and then we leave. If Iron Fist George doesn’t come back, we’ll come looking for trouble every day."
Although Emily was fond of thrills, she wasn’t foolish, so after hearing Gao Yi’s words, she replied with a slightly resigned tone, "It’s impossible, we can’t have someone here every day to watch and cover for us."
"Hmm, just play it by ear."
Gao Yi and Emily walked side by side, attracting quite a few backward glances. Some even took out their phones to snap a couple of photos of them.
It had to be said that their outfits were too high-profile, too ostentatious.
But it was this very flamboyance that made them seem less dangerous.
Which agent on a mission, especially a life-or-death one, would have the whimsy to dress up as a movie character? That’s nonsense.
For many years, no one in the espionage circle had attempted something so outrageously insane.
Yet Gao Yi did just that, and that’s why he achieved unexpected effects.
The previous two times they had approached from the bridge, which actually falls on the side of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department.
This time was different, as they approached from a road parallel to the Thames River, passing the main entrance of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department.
There were soldiers on guard at the main entrance, but they were not stationed at the roadside. Instead, they were inside a sentry box at the entrance.
By the time Gao Yi and Emily walked by, cars began to trickle out of the gate. It was just past six in the evening—quitting time.
Although it wasn’t peak time, there were still quite a few people leaving, and even more cars at the exit of the underground parking lot.
Gao Yi wasn’t very familiar with the layout of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department, but Emily was quite clear. As they walked she said, "It’s quitting time now, and the parking lot of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department isn’t very large. There are fixed parking spots and those who can drive to work are somewhat high-status. If we could stop a car, that would be great."
Emily had merely made an offhand remark, but Gao Yi’s eyebrows arched as he said, "Oh, good idea."
Emily looked surprised and asked, "Are you really going to do it?"
"Why not?"
"You have a point, why not? No one has done it before, simply because they didn’t have the ability, but you’re different."
Emily’s excitement was hard to contain, and she gave Gao Yi another look. This time her gaze fit perfectly with her character in the movie—worship and adoration amalgamated.
The two got closer and closer to the gate, and they were quite near when the man in a suit at the entrance had been watching them for some time, but he only watched, without any other superfluous movements.
A few sharp-looking individuals, equipped with earpieces, were arranged to the left and right of the main entrance. Gao Yi couldn’t tell if this was an increased security measure, but there were certainly fewer people than before.
"Which one?"
This time Gao Yi took the initiative to ask Emily, and she excitedly replied, "The one on the very outside. Can I do it?"
"Uh..."
"Alright, I was just talking. I’m a bit nervous now, but I’m also very excited."
As they closed in and were about to pass by one another, Gao Yi suddenly said, "Do it now."
The confidence of a master is being able to clean up any mess—Gao Yi could even surprise Emily this way.
Emily was both shocked and thrilled, but her reaction, although quick, was still far behind Gao Yi’s.
At the moment Gao Yi said to take action, Emily had to think about whether to drop the potted plant she was holding.
She hesitated just a moment, but the suited man with an earpiece, having heard Gao Yi’s order, reacted with astonishing speed, immediately retreating, reaching for his gun, yelling, warning.
They hadn’t taken Gao Yi and his companion as threats, but his reaction was so fast that Gao Yi had no choice but to make a move.
With a flick of his hand, he threw the case straight at the face, and at the same time as ditching the case, he pressed a button on the handle of the violin case. The violin case sprang open instantly—the gun was fixed in place, but the steel pipe fell out as the case opened.
Gao Yi snatched up the steel pipe and swung it out sharply.
A crisp crack, followed by a scream.
Gao Yi had shown restraint, not aiming for the knee, but hitting the lower leg.
A leg bone heals in a few months, but a shattered knee cap would make walking uncomfortable for the rest of one’s life.
He brought the steel pipe down and, with a flick of the pipe, said, "Too slow. Regardless of whether you have a plan in advance, you must always be prepared to act."
"Yes, sir, I’m sorry."
Emily apologized, treating it as an on-the-spot lesson.
In fact, it was an on-the-spot lesson. Gao Yi moved swiftly, his steel pipe smashing with force, striking a sentinel’s hand, dislodging the rifle, then Gao Yi whispered, "Let’s go!"
Breaking someone’s leg was enough—no need to wait to be shot to death in the chaos. Better to retreat quickly. The goal was to hit fast and retreat immediately—greed and overreaching were not options.
Emily felt a bit disappointed, but Gao Yi felt their objective had been met. However, just as the two of them pulled away quickly, prepared to beat a retreat, a car shot out from the parking lot exit beside the main entrance.
That, was a coincidence.
