Chapter 230: Chapter 218 Get Moving
"Sir, we caught up with the Sky Garden, four Asians and two Caucasians; target confirmation is accurate, we forced French consumables to launch a suicide attack, and after alerting the police, it successfully involved the French Police, but..."
"But what?"
"The French Police are still inspecting the scene."
"Didn’t you tell the police the suspect’s license plate number and personal characteristics? Didn’t you directly inform the French Police of the target’s whereabouts?"
"We did, but..."
"But what?"
"When we called, the operator said they were on strike, and it was impossible to deploy more police forces at the scene; the operator said if possible, we should provide more information, and they would start an investigation after the strike is over."
"Dammit, Falke! This is a shooting, a murder! Two people are dead, and they don’t care?"
"They cared; they sent a forensic doctor and a special crime unit, but they only had six people and couldn’t launch a large-scale manhunt. They could only report the message and wait for the Ministry of Internal Affairs to decide when to assign police forces to assist before they could conduct a wide-ranging search."
"Damn France! They... they..."
"So, it’s not that the French Police don’t care about the shooting, they simply lack personnel."
"Damn..."
"Sir, what do we do next?"
"Wait for my notification."
The call ended, and after swearing at the sky for a moment to calm down, he made another call.
"Sir, the French Police haven’t made any moves yet."
The call was answered by the Director of Europe, who paused and said, "What? Why? There’s no major strike today in the police forces."
"The Biarritz Police Station is on strike, and the Bordeaux Railway Hub Station as well. Right now, the police aren’t making any moves. The Sky Garden has already passed through Bordeaux and just passed by Ravelini City, heading toward Paris. We no longer have the capacity to intercept them halfway. Sir, we are an assassin organization, we specialize in assassination, my people are not good at intercepting or capturing in a combative manner."
The Director of Europe was silent for a moment before he sternly said, "You are responsible for holding them off, at least keep an eye on them. The police in Biarritz are on strike, but the Paris police are not. So, after they arrive in Paris, have your people stage another attack; the French Police must be compelled to arrest them with all their might."
"Sir, assassins are not mercenaries. If I ask them to undertake a suicidal mission, it will only complicate matters. It’s not that I’m shirking responsibility, losing some consumables doesn’t affect me at all; but sir, wasting more consumables is useless if the French Police don’t conduct a full-scale search. All this effort would be meaningless."
"I have my plans; just do as I say."
The relationship between the CIA and the Andic Group was complex, certainly not that of a superior and subordinate. Thus, the Director of Europe misused his authority.
"I refuse."
The Andic Group flatly refused, and then, raising his voice by two degrees, said, "I have a suggestion for you; right now, I can find a decent mercenary group; they can go to their deaths, they can be consumables, but the prerequisite is having the appropriate transport and accurately pinpointing the target’s location. I can pay to send this mercenary group over, but the rest, you’ll have to handle."
The Director of Europe felt his blood pressure rising.
Face the reality, the Andic Group is willing to cooperate with the CIA, but it’s not an unconditional and limitless cooperation. Asking others to contribute is acceptable, but forcing them to indefinitely devote resources and money is not.
Calm down and change the tone, the Director of Europe coldly said, "I’ll say this once, this operation is personally directed by the Director himself."
The Andic Group was silent for a moment and finally said, "I’ll launch another suicidal attack. I’ve found a mercenary group to forcefully attack them; if they can successfully capture the target, great; if they can’t, they will at least stir the entire situation in France."
"What mercenary group, and what is their combat strength?"
"The Oak Mercenary Group, many of its members are retirees from the French Foreign Legion, very strong in combat. They are in France and can be assembled within an hour. However, they lack weapons and the ability to quickly deploy into combat. After arming themselves, they can only travel by car, and driving is slow. Further, they will need transport to leave France afterward, otherwise, these people refuse to initiate a large fight in France."
"What made them agree to this operation?"
"I promised two hundred million dollars! I’ve just posted the largest mercenary task in history, sir, I have paid a high price for this mission; now it’s your turn to act."
The Director of Europe gritted his teeth and said in a low voice, "I authorize the opening of a large safe house; it has enough arms to equip a hundred people. I can deploy four helicopters; this is the CIA’s largest aviation equipment reserve in Europe. Disguised as a civilian tourist helicopter company for over forty years, this operation will certainly expose this company and the safe house. Listen, I’ve paid too high a price for this operation, and you know what it means if it still fails!"
"This isn’t my problem, but I’m still willing to help you to my fullest capacity, sir. An assassin organization shouldn’t be this hard to deal with; if you could withstand the pressure and use full measures earlier, the Sky Garden would have ceased to exist earlier."
Andic Group’s boss refused to take the blame for the Director of Europe; the failure of the Director of Europe had nothing to do with him.
The conversation was far from pleasant, but eventually, they negotiated a result, both sides showed sincerity and put forth tangible assets to jointly accomplish the operation.
Suddenly, the Director of Europe said, "If possible, try to capture them alive."
An operation is not a task, there’s a fundamental difference between the two.
The implication from the CIA Director was to capture them alive to better uncover the mole.
But the Director of Europe knew this was unrealistic—saying it to Andic Group might not even get their agreement, so he said, ’if possible.’
After hearing this, the boss of the Andic Group didn’t express any clear indication; he was silent for a moment and said in a low voice, "I’ll do my best, goodbye."
After hanging up the phone, the boss of the Andic Group vented furiously once more, then said coldly, "Immediately set up a bounty, one hundred million dollars, notify all assassins in France, those we can directly command should go to their deaths, those we can’t, try to lure them to their deaths."
After finishing, the boss fiercely said, "If the French Police won’t move, then let’s create the biggest mess in their history and see if they move! Strike, damn it! Damn Frenchmen! Get them moving!"
