Chapter 140 - 130: Backbone

Chapter 140: Chapter 130: Backbone

Gao Yi roughly knew what was going to happen next.

It was supposed to be a simple transaction, one hand passes the person, the other hand passes the money, if there’s no money, violence ensues, and if there is, the deal is done and you can leave.

But Fesari, having noticed the significant backing Gao Yi and his associates represented, genuinely wanted to recruit them and establish a long-term cooperative relationship. Typically, this would be beneficial since any assassin organization needs such super-rich and law-defying prominent clients.

However, the problem stemmed from Gao Yi’s use of the Secret Action Bureau as a backdrop, which made rich clients uneasy about employing an assassin with an official backing.

Therefore, if Fesari wanted to use the Sky Garden, he had to make Gao Yi and his crew muddle through murky waters, leaving stains on them that would linger for a lifetime.

Ordinary assassins weren’t worth such effort for Fesari, but a part-time assassin representing the Pentagon’s Defense Clandestine Service was not to be missed, leading to a complicit test akin to that of a declaration of allegiance.

Gao Yi felt extremely troubled and annoyed.

Only Peter seemed happy and eager.

It was unclear whether Peter had already figured out what was going to happen next.

The butler led the three men into a room, opened the door, and said, "Please go in and choose; don’t be shy."

Peter was the first to walk in, but his feet froze after stepping into the room.

Seven girls, truly children, the eldest seemed to be only about twelve or thirteen, the youngest appeared to be only seven or eight years old.

Peter blocked the way, with Gao Yi behind him, and Luca was still outside the door.

Slowly turning around, Peter’s gaze moved past Gao Yi and towards the butler who was still outside, he said, "Wait, no, this isn’t right! Where are the real beauties? The ones with big breasts, big asses, the ones over twenty who could be supermodels or celebrities?"

It seemed that Peter genuinely hadn’t anticipated this type of test; however, the kind of beauties he mentioned weren’t really a challenge, they were just an actual invitation to enjoyment.

Gao Yi pushed past Peter and slowly walked forward into the room.

The room was quite nicely arranged, with ample air conditioning, and a lot of fruits and snacks on the table. However, nobody had touched them, indicating that the children weren’t hungry.

Then, four of the girls huddled together, looking at Gao Yi with terrified eyes.

Similarly, the other three girls were clung to each other, appearing equally frightened.

The girls’ clothes were relatively new and uniform, princess dresses that made them all look like dolls, though two of the girls wore what Gao Yi couldn’t quite understand - a one-piece swimsuit with stockings.

After a long thought, Gao Yi finally realized it; it was the kind of basic Barbie doll outfit without any clothes.

Gao Yi took a deep breath.

Luca glanced inside, he spoke softly, "This is not okay, this... this..."

"Choose any, choosing several is fine too."

The butler spoke, his face expressionless, merely stating flatly, "My master rarely entertains guests here, so it’s best you seize the opportunity."

Peter said with a trembling voice, "No, no, no, I can’t!"

Gao Yi swallowed his saliva, while Luca addressed the butler, "Forget it, just forget it..."

Luca took a step forward, his face full of helplessness, "We really can’t accept this, there are many other ways to test for cooperation, there’s no need to use..."

Gao Yi took a step forward and brushed past Luca.

Luca suddenly reached out, grabbing Gao Yi’s arm, pleading desperately, "Don’t, please, I beg you! Don’t be impulsive."

The butler took a step back, surprised, and cautiously asked, "What are you intending to do?"

Gao Yi smiled and said, "Nothing in particular, just want to close the door."

The butler’s expression slightly eased, and he pointed to a nearby room, "There are many rooms here, you can choose any style you like."

After saying this, the butler opened another door, but seeing the pink, fairy-tale-like room inside, a small girl with a white ribbon around her neck, her face blue, hung limply by the bed’s edge.

The butler closed the door again, coughed lightly, and said, "This room hasn’t been cleaned yet, er, all the other rooms are available, just remember to clean up afterward."

Finishing, the butler smiled, "You know what ’clean up’ means, right?"

Gao Yi’s right arm was gripped by Luca, placed behind the side.

His fingers clenched slowly, tightened, then Gao Yi’s entire right arm bulged.

Luca, stunned, released Gao Yi’s right arm, looked at the butler, then turned back to gaze at the seven children in the room, and then he pressed his forehead, whispering softly, "Oh God, Falke! Oh, Falke..."

Peter whispered, "We... should leave, let’s just leave, I... can’t."

Luca released Gao Yi’s arm and then said with extreme reluctance, "Leaving is fine, please, let’s just go and talk later, don’t mess it up so there’s no way back, we... aren’t ourselves, we’re involved too much..."

By now, Luca couldn’t care less and had to desperately urge Gao Yi, knowing Gao Yi’s temper, he truly feared that Gao Yi would lose patience and smash Fesari’s head in.

Being tied to the Secret Action Bureau, what should have been support or a talisman became an obstacle.

But it was better not to cause too much trouble for friends.

Gao Yi gently loosened his fist and said to the butler, "We refuse, let’s go."

Gao Yi walked forward, and Luca breathed a sigh of relief, hurrying to follow. Peter looked back at the girls with pity in his eyes, but after hesitating for a moment, he lowered his head and followed Gao Yi’s steps.

The butler didn’t stop them; he only said softly, "I’m just reminding you that if you miss this opportunity, you’ll never be able to serve my master."

Gao Yi really wanted, really wanted, really wanted to smash the butler’s head in.

"Moreover, you should understand the importance of keeping your mouth shut."

The butler continued, and Gao Yi’s fists clenched again involuntarily.

Gao Yi arrived in the living room, and Fesari, somewhat surprised to see him coming out first, sighed softly before sitting on the sofa, his face displeased, "It seems you’ve refused my kindness."

Gao Yi stood his ground, just staring straight at Fesari.

Luca was tense; he approached Gao Yi again, grabbing his arm, and whispered, "Let’s go, let’s just leave. The deal is over, we leave, forget the rest. We can’t handle it, you’re not the Savior, not a Hero."

Luca couldn’t care too much; he knew Gao Yi’s stubborn temper all too well, so he had to persuade Gao Yi in front of Fesari because if he couldn’t convince him, there would be no turning back.

At that moment, Gao Yi truly contemplated just leaving.

It was only a brief moment, considering leaving without caring anymore, yet even that fleeting moment of weighing the pros and cons brought shame to Gao Yi.

Practicing martial arts was meant for chivalry and justice, a vital spiritual pillar that supported Gao Yi’s training since he watched martial arts movies as a child.

As he grew up, he knew becoming a Hero was unrealistic, impossible, and one could not become a Hero or Savior by practicing martial arts.

But as a martial artist, Gao Yi at least had integrity.

And pride.

He might not achieve acts of chivalry and justice, but becoming a villain’s accomplice was out of the question.

Ignoring the injustices of the world and pretending not to see them was something he couldn’t do.

Gao Yi stood still; his expression was calm, but his actions were enough to raise alarm.

The butler’s face changed, and he shouted sharply, prompting the four armed bodyguards to reappear, carrying submachine guns.

Peter’s expression also changed; he didn’t know Gao Yi too well, but seeing him standing there, he instinctively felt danger.

"Don’t... don’t do it..."

Peter was conflicted and hesitant, then finally said, "Don’t be impulsive. If we kill him, it’s over for us, I mean, we... we’ll be in trouble, this isn’t something we can... let’s go."

Peter meant not to kill Fesari because that would involve the Defense Clandestine Service, and Fesari’s connections were too significant for their Iraq division to withstand.

Gao Yi took a deep breath and for the first time took the initiative towards Fesari, "How much did you pay for these girls?"

Fesari looked slightly surprised, then smiled and said, "One hundred thousand each."

What a coincidence.

Gao Yi exhaled and turned to Luca, extending his hand, "Give me the money."

There was no cash, only the acceptance draft, but Luca knew what Gao Yi meant, and even though he was reluctant, he didn’t hesitate to take out the draft and placed it in Gao Yi’s hand.

Gao Yi waved the draft at Fesari, "I’ll take them all, one million each, sell them to me."

Gao Yi knew what would happen next, so he knew the money was pointless.

Because it was an acceptance draft, although it was supposed to be paid upon presentation, just one phone call to the bank would stop the payment, which might not be standard, but it depended on who issued the acceptance draft.

Fesari laughed loudly, then raised his arm, "You’re insulting me, you..."

Gao Yi’s hand holding the draft didn’t lower; his sudden move caught Luca and everyone else off guard as they waited for Fesari to finish his sentence, but Gao Yi had already darted out the moment Fesari opened his mouth.

It was very close, three or four meters distance, and in the blink of an eye, he was there.

Fesari’s voice abruptly stopped, as Gao Yi sat next to him, his right arm around his neck, the acceptance draft in his hand shaking as he continued in a low voice, "Will you sell or not?"

Fesari breathed with difficulty trying to wriggle free from Gao Yi’s right arm, but as he made a slight movement, Gao Yi just tightened his grip slightly, causing Fesari to gasp for air.

The butler was stunned, yelling, "Let go of the master, don’t shoot!"

Gao Yi whispered, "Will you sell?"

"Sell..."

After saying this, Gao Yi looked at the butler, sternly saying, "Get on the Dark Web, complete our mission, quickly!"

The butler hurriedly took out his phone, and Gao Yi glanced at Luca, who nodded, walked over to the butler, and said, "Give me the phone, I’ll handle it."

Gao Yi slightly loosened his right arm, then sternly said, "I can snap your neck in an instant, tell them to put down their guns!"

Fesari struggled to say, "Put down the guns, put all the guns down, you... don’t be rash, take your money and people and go, just go!"
