Chapter 139: Chapter 129 Please Get in the Water
From the outside, it didn’t look too big, but once inside, the house proved to be much larger than it appeared from a distance.
Considering Fesari’s wealth, the yard, or rather the villa, wasn’t all that luxurious, at least the garden looked quite simple.
After entering, there wasn’t any sense of opulence. This house was unlike the styles favored by the Middle Eastern tycoons—it had a simple, clean design, with a sense of technology, but wasn’t overwhelmingly luxurious.
There were no carpets; the floor was covered with white marble, the likes of which Gao Yi had never seen in his life.
In the living room, there were several large sofas. Sitting on one was a man in his forties, looking fit and well-groomed with his stylish black beard. He had an air of elegance, that of nobility.
He made no motion to rise and greet his guests. Instead, the master remained seated on the sofa, scrutinizing Gao Yi and his companions with an evaluative gaze. However, upon seeing Saibu, his calm was quickly replaced by anger.
"You charlatan!"
The host rose from the sofa, marching past Gao Yi and the others to confront Saibu.
All Gao Yi could do was turn around to see what would happen between Fesari and Saibu.
Fesari didn’t get physical. He wasn’t taller than Saibu, but the look he gave was definitely one of looking down on him.
"How dare you deceive me! Not only did you dare to swindle my money, but you also dared to sell my men to someone else!"
Fesari seemed very angry, but he didn’t say much. After speaking briefly, he suddenly said to Saibu, "Speak!"
Saibu looked at Fesari with a stupefied face. His lips parted, his wooden expression suddenly turned into one of terror, and then he started to struggle violently, trying to shake off the control of the men on either side of him.
"Demon!"
Saibu shouted loudly, desperately trying to back away, but he was immobile, so he could only twist his body and hands where he stood.
Fesari frowned and looked back at Luca.
It seemed Fesari took Luca to be the leader.
Luca cleared his throat lightly and said, "Truth serum, he’s still of some value."
Fesari cocked his head, looking at Luca with a puzzled gaze, then said, "Truth serum, so you know who I am?"
Luca hesitated before replying softly, "Being an assassin is our side job, sir. Since we’ve brought him to you, instead of anywhere else, that means we really don’t want to know anything else or, let’s say, we don’t care."
The man they were dealing with was too well-connected, prestigious, and wealthy.
Luca had to start looking for a patron, which is why he said being an assassin was only a side job.
Actually, it wasn’t until Grins got a confession from Saibu and found out who Gao Yi and his team were dealing with, that Peter was sent to follow along. Of course, remote online transactions were possible, but it was secondary to getting paid less. The important thing was the potential troubles it might bring.
Now with Peter accompanying, and Luca embellishing a bit, the deal could be concluded smoothly. They would not only get paid but also ensure that the transaction ended there.
Fesari nodded and then smiled at his men, "Money."
How could the boss hand out money himself? Not to mention giving it, the boss shouldn’t even touch money.
The man in the white robe who had greeted Gao Yi and his team at the entrance immediately stepped forward, pulling out a piece of paper and handing it to Luca.
Gao Yi was a bit surprised; he thought the transaction wouldn’t likely involve cash, but if they really did offer cash, he wouldn’t refuse. However, he anticipated a transfer, yet the offering of a paper was beyond his understanding.
Maybe a check?
But who would dare to accept a check for seven million dollars?
Luca glanced at it and then let out a sigh of relief, "It’s an acceptance draft."
Gao Yi looked over, and to assure him, Luca even showed it to him.
"An acceptance draft from Rajhe Bank, payable upon presentation, seven million US dollars. I trust in your reputation and capability, so, the deal is done."
Having finished, Luca gestured toward Saibu and spoke firmly, "He’s yours now."
Gao Yi suddenly realized it was an acceptance draft. Alright, although he had no idea what an acceptance draft was, if Luca said it was fine, then it surely was.
Fesari nodded and then said evenly, "Sky Garden, is it? I like your style of work. Dispose of this irritating fool, and then we can talk."
Luca immediately replied, "It would be an honor."
Fesari just turned to glance at Saibu again. He had lost the interest to say anything more, simply expressing satisfaction, "Bury him."
Four men immediately began pushing Saibu towards another direction in the living room, and at this point, Saibu ceased struggling.
Fesari walked two steps towards the sofa, but then he halted and declared, "It’s been a long time since anyone has enraged me this much. I want to watch him get buried."
After finishing, Fesari’s expression was half-smiling as he said, "Thanks to your exceptional performance, I can watch him be buried. I feel I mustn’t waste your efforts, so, would you like to join?"
Luca pondered for a moment before smiling, "Sure."
Fesari spread his hands and said with mild regret, "It’s a pity he won’t feel fear or beg for mercy, which takes away much of the fun. Still, one can’t ask for too much, this is enough as it is."
Two men in white robes and turbans led the way hurriedly, with Fesari, in his red-checked turban, walking ahead of Gao Yi and the other two.
Fesari walked with confidence and firm steps.
Pushing open a door led to the backyard.
One would normally see the sea from the backyard, but because of the walls, one could only see the walls themselves.
Beyond was a porch, and although outdoor, cool air blew from vents above, behind, and from the ground. There was no strong wind, but it was still pleasantly cool.
Four men escorted Saibu to a corner in the backyard. One of them looked around, then gestured, and two men started digging with shovels.
The ground was sandy, easy to dig through. However, after a few shovelfuls, they unearthed a white, partially decomposed limb amidst the sand that fell to the side.
A faint stench began to waft through the air.
The two diggers stopped abruptly, their faces turning to Fesari in shock and horror.
The atmosphere seemed to freeze in an instant.
Gao Yi caught sight of the piece of flesh half-buried in the sand, a rotting arm that seemed too small.
Fesari said nothing, merely furrowing his brow as the man in the white turban shouted a few words.
Unintelligible, but the diggers shifted aside and resumed their work.
Fesari was patient. He sat in a chair under the porch and after about half an hour, watching the men take turns digging a hole deep enough for a body, he smiled and nodded his approval. Then Saibu was shoved into the hole and the men began to fill it rapidly with sand.
The three companions stood silently, watching as Saibu was buried.
No wonder there was no garden or lawn in the backyard, just a stretch of sand.
Who knew how many were buried here.
Gao Yi felt Fesari was showing off his power.
Gao Yi thought he had been quite brazen in Baghdad, but today he realized what it meant to be utterly unbridled.
In an occupied, war-torn place like Baghdad, it’s one thing to swagger around under the occupier’s banner.
In a prosperous, stable country, in a city with good security, to bury people at will—that’s true lawlessness.
A slight mound rose from the ground where Saibu was buried, with almost all of the dug-up soil shoveled back. Burying a body wouldn’t take much underground space.
Fesari took a satisfied breath, stood up with a smile, and gestured them back inside.
When they returned to the living room, Fesari settled back onto the sofa. Then he gestured, and Gao Yi and the others finally sat down.
"Are you Americans?"
Luca nodded with a smile, "Yes."
"Which division?"
Fesari didn’t bother with subtlety; he asked directly, because he wasn’t one of the Iraqis. Although he valued the banner that Gao Yi and his team waved, he definitely wouldn’t be scared.
Gao Yi kept silent, as did Luca, because whether or not to identify themselves was now up to Peter, who’d actually joined the Action Bureau.
Without hesitation, Peter declared, "The Pentagon, Defense Clandestine Service."
Despite his pride, Peter’s confidence faltered under Fesari’s raised eyebrows, who remarked, "Oh, the Pentagon. I thought it might be the CIA or the Department of Homeland Security. I’m quite familiar with the CIA and I know the top US military commander here well, but I didn’t know about you. So you’re from the Defense Clandestine Service."
Suddenly, Peter’s pride vanished.
With a wave of his hand, Fesari said, "You’re stationed in Iraq? No problem, I like your work style. I don’t have reliable people on the ground in Iraq; you can handle any jobs for me over there."
Luca responded softly, "Thank you."
Fesari smiled and nodded, "This is one of my villas. I don’t come here often, but relatively speaking, I do frequent it. I’ve had a pleasant time today, so I’ve decided to open all of the entertainment facilities here to you."
Without standing, Fesari pointed to the man in the white turban, "He’s my butler. Let him entertain you. I’ve had my fun for the day and won’t be joining you. Take our guests to see if they like anything. If not, bring another group of people. Treat my guests well."
The butler immediately said, "Yes, this way, please."
Gao Yi was somewhat dazed, while Luca appeared uncomfortable, saying, "Perhaps another time..."
Fesari smiled, "Are you refusing my hospitality?"
Nobody liked to be refused. Despite the polite phrasing, try saying no.
Furthermore, Gao Yi had realized that Fesari indeed intended to use them, long-term, which was why Fesari was asking them to pledge allegiance. This invitation wasn’t just for leisure; it was an initiation.
Luca quickly changed his expression, speaking solemnly, "We wouldn’t dream of refusing. Thank you for the hospitality."
Fesari nodded slightly, appreciating Luca’s quick response, and then chuckled, "Good, then go enjoy."
Luca was a bit puzzled, Gao Yi was even more so, and Peter seemed eager and expectant, saying with ease, "Thank you."
